Default Sugar Sugar

This may be a silly question, but I was wondering what exactly does sugar temporarily do to your body? Does it make you retain water like salt?

I received lots of Valentine candy on Monday and I've been eating a little of it. I do not go over my calories for the day. For example, the other night I had a box of those Sweathearts with the messages on them for 110 calories. I know it's not good for you and basically pure sugar, but surely it doesn't do great harm to eat something like that every now in then, right? Like I said, I'm staying in my calorie range.

My scale hasn't really moved this week and I was wondering if it was because I've been eating some sugar lately? I hope I'll see a whoosh soon and it's not due to eating a little extra sugar. I don't want to monopolize my weight loss because of some sweathearts with messages. However, it's going to be very daunting if I can't lose weight when eating little sugary treats every now and then. I guess what I'm really hoping is that I'm holding water or something and I'll see that whoosh soon.

Sugar acts just like too much salt for me. I always feel bloated (like PMS bloated!) when I have too much.

Sugar acts like an appetite stimulent to me....I eat, eat, eat and then eat. If there is something I truly want, I make sure to eat it after a large dinner so I do not get into SUGAR BINGE mode.

Alcohol is my worst trigger, and I try to avoid it; one drink becomes two, three, four then an EATING FRENZY.

Sugar goes into your blood stream and then your body releases insulin to lower the levels of glucose in the blood. If your muscles are low on glucose it is converted into glycogen and stored in your muscles. BUT if you don't need to use it the glucose is stored as fat.

This is what I'm hoping. I have felt a little bloated lately even though I didn't go over the amount of sugar I should have in a day. I guess I just notice when it's more than I usually have.

I have a similar reaction - I gain like 2 pounds overnight when I eat more sugar than normal, and then it's gone the next day. Hope that's the same for you lol
