30 days of commitment challenge!!
So I have been losing and gaining weight for the last few months. I lost from 186 to 166, then gained back around 10lbs. I have been reading my emails from fitness magazine and one in particular gave me an idea. I am committing to 30 days on plan! Now I dont expect 30 days of perfection. Buy I will log everything I eat and my excercise for 30 days. That's going to be this first step, first month "on plan challenge". I will count and account for all I do toward my goal. I also will log in and post on this tread everyday for 30 days ( I have noticed a direct correlation between my success at weight loss and logging into this site ).
Here are my goals: •Stay within the calorie allotment on a calorie counting app for iPhone (which apparently I can't state the name of ) •Workout 5 days a week *this is what I am striving toward. But I am not setting such lofty goals as the 30 day challenge. I want a smaller step for now, but am working toward the above* And here is what the challenge goals are: •Post progress on this thread everyday •Log everything, even if I go waaaaay off plan. •Weigh once a week officially. (totally ok with daily weigh in but not ready to make that a hardfast goal) I hope others will join me in whatever 30 day challenge you want! Also fo me today is day #1. I respect if people like to start on a Monday or Jan. 1st. But for me, start days in the future usually equal bad days in the interim. |
I should mention that I'm weighing tomorrow morning and though it's day two it will be my official starting weight. Ugh and the ticker will be appropriately changed :/
|
Good idea! Im in! I started back up yesterday after being very naughty through the Christmas period!
|
I usually do really good for the first 2 weeks then I crash and burn and gain back anything I lose
|
Becki86- welcome! Hopefully we can motivate eachother :)
|
I'm sooo in!! I need some motivation and hopefully this is it! :)
|
Carrie- Welcome and good luck. What are your goals for the 30 days? If you don't mind sharing.
|
My goals for the next 30 days are to work out and do cardio at least four days a week, and give up Dr Pepper COMPLETELY!! That will be the hard one! Lol!!
|
Weightgain- I somehow misses your post before. Maybe a commitment to one month will help u past the two weeks. I figure I can always do whatever I want after the 30 days. So I can keep on trucking with it! (of course I'm banking on 30 days being a habit forming time and helping me to continue)
|
Great idea!
I am doing the same thing, but chose a less ambitious 2 weeks instead. I tell myself I can do anything for 14 days. You gotta start somewhere. |
Thanks! Im sure we can definitely motivate each other!
|
I plan to have a binge free thirty days!
I also plan to track everything I eat and not give up!! G oodluck everyone! =) |
This sounds like a good idea, I'm keen to start Jan 1st, ie tomorrow xD I want to stay on plan eatting wise and start exercising again on Jan 5th (ive earnt this holiday, darn it!)
Should we edit these original posts we make with progress or make new ones every day? Jan 1st: Day Weigh in 63.8kg Week 1: 5/7 days on plan Jan 8th: Day 8 Weigh in 61.8kg Eating: too much Exercise: 3 hours skiing Jan 9th: Day 9 Eating: Good! Exercise: Day off :) Jan 10th: Day 10 Eating: Good Exercise: Gym PT plan Jan 11th: Day 11 Eating: too much >.< Exercise: warm up and PT |
I'm totally in! I'm starting Jan 2nd though for various of reasons two of my buddies are doing a P90X thing for three months, I've decided to join them on that but my work out scedule will be different. I will not just be doing just that.
Jan Goals: Start Rocking Climbing (at least twice a month since funds are low.) Start Skating (but in order to do that...I must buy skates...) P90X for two days out of the week. Jillian Michaels workout once a week. I will have one day off fully and skating will be my "second" day off. Today I will figure out my diet plan, since my diet has royally sucked lately I need to incorp change and in a way I can still enjoy a nice snack to supress the cravings and not feel hungry afterwards. More to come once I figure stuff out more. :) |
Day 2
So far so good! I logged every calorie that passed my lips yesterday. Ran 20 mins and lifted legs. And I am here to log! Woo hoo. I must admit I did log everything, but went over on my calories by 200. According to my app it's still weightloss range, but not 2 lbs a week like I entered for goal. Crissy- 14 days is a great chance. I've always felt that if I can do two weeks in a row then I am definately on the right track Nikeole- Good luck! Binge free thirty days is huge. Iconised- the first is always a great start off day. I think I'll probably post new everyday. But setting up a post and editing everyday has always worked great for me in everyday weigh ins. I think you can do Bowery you like. Sometimes it's easier to really see your progress that way. Ify challenge were more ambitious than an tracking and logging, then I'd probably edit a post. MiZTaCCen- that's great that your goals are all focused on excercise. Your starting the year getting stronger! |
ok well I figure that I'll update my post so I can see how well I am doing in one place, and just reply with general comments etc :D Best of both worlds!
|
Oh my goodness do I need this!
This is attempt #2 to lose the massive gain of last year. I regained over half what i lost over the summer/early fall in the last couple of months. I refuse to allow that to happen, and I want to learn from my mistakes. Goals 1. Stay binge free. 2. Stay w/in calorie limit, and track EVERYTHING. 3. Exercise. Aim is 6x a week. 4. Don't weigh daily (for me it gets to an unhealthy obsession that backfires) 5. Add in weights, take aerobic classes. 6. Stay sober. I also think I'll try to keep updating this page. Hopefully it will aid to keeping on track! Th |
Day 3! Happy new year. Ok this is kinda sad but the ensure I get logged in today I am doing it before I sleep ;). Its 2:30 am here and so it is technically the next day. I wish I could say I'm up because I've been partying. But actually just got home from my job bartending. And tomorrow I am snow shoeing and then going to a company party. I don't know when I'll have time for 3fc. So worked out yesterday and logged everything. Even the 6 oz glass of champagne ;). Actually stayed in calorie limit and am exhausted. Check in on the 2nd!
|
Being back from work instead of partying is nothing to be ashamed of  Well done on the logging!
|
Great idea!
I always make the mistake of being overly ambitious and set specific weight loss goals for super specific time frames, blow it and give up. If I can just stay focused, for longer than a week, ahem, then the weight loss will follow. My goals: - log on here everyday (I also find it keeps me on track!) - log my food and exercise (still not sure where) - drink tons of water - stop being lazy about this! :) So, this is Day #1. |
Great idea!
My goals for January: - drink 8 cups of water per day - calorie count EVERYTHING & stay within weekly calorie limit - log 12.5 hours of cardio - 2 15-minute strength training sessions per week 1/01: 8 cups, 1267 calories 1/02: 8 cups, 1281 calories 1/03: 8 cups, 1216 calories, 50 min. elliptical 1/04: 8 cups, 1108 calories 1/05: 8 cups, 2518 calories (planned splurge day) 1/06: 8 cups, 2600 calories (unplanned :o), 25 min walking/jogging 1/07: 8 cups, 833 calories, 50 min. elliptical, 15 min. strength 1/08: 8 cups, 803 calories, 15 min. strength 1/09: 8 cups, 1226 calories 1/10: 8 cups, 25 min. walking, 56 min. elliptical |
LOVE IT! Totally need this thread. Starting Jan 3rd....
Right now I'm not telling myself I need to do X for Y amount of days other than: *Log onto 3FC daily *Stay on plan *Journal EVERYTHING I eat *Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day *No alcohol (until Feb 18th which is actually past the 30 day mark) *Work out at least 3 times a week So far I'm pretty sure I've had at least 4 16 oz cups of water (maybe 5, I lost count LOL)... headed to the gym today after work and I will be journaling my food in just a little while! Keep up the hard work, ladies! |
Seems like we are all doing really well, keep it up!
|
Current weight: 164 (I will only weight myself once a week so every Monday or I might switch it to Sunday for my weekly weigh ins. I find it becomes too stressful for me to weight in everyday)
Day 1: Jan 3, 2010 Morning breakfast 6:00: Banana and a full throttle...(Let’s just say the two of those together cleaned out my system majorly.) Snack 8:30: Bananna Lunch 11:30: Salad (Pepper’s, cucumbers and cheese) Dinner: 4 pizza pockets...I know bad bad meee lol Snack: Cottage cheese with pepper added. Water intake: 12 glasses Workout: Today was the start of my P90X I did the Cardio I didn’t like the first 15 minutes it was like yoga...I was bored and needed something faster...so when we finally got down to the kicking, punching and fast action cardio work I started to like it more. So I’d give out of 10 a 7 for enjoyment...I did about 35 minutes out of the 45...not bad. I’m glad I didn’t waste money on it. So this week’s workout consists of:Monday: P90X: Cardio, Tuesday: P90X: Core, Wednesday: Off, Thursday: P90X: Kenpo, Friday: Rock Climbing (indoors of course) Saturday: P90X: Yoga, Sunday P90X: Stretch and weight in for the week. |
Day 3
It`s day 3 and Im still logging in.
Things havent gone perfectly, I definitely ate a little more than I should have yesterday, but the important thing is that Im still focused on my plan. I worked out some details yesterday and have decided on a small calendar for logging my daily calories. I`m aiming for 1400-1600 to start with. So far today Ive eaten 700 and its early afternoon here. One challenge about staying on plan is that I dont have an accurate way of weighing myself. I know that shouldnt matter, but weighing myself goes hand in hand with making the effort, in my mind. I know I could use a tape measure instead, but its just not the same for me. Does anyone else struggle with wanting to weigh themselves daily? Im worried not being able to will throw me off in the end! |
Ish- I do weigh myself daily but thats because at the moment that works for me. There have been times, long stretches of time, where I have not done that because it was coutner productive and I just couldnt take it. But at the moment I can take the fluctuations and I like knowing whats going on day to day. When I dont weigh myself daily though I find it more encouraging to make a solid effort all week, so I can actually get excited about the weigh in  As long as I can keep that goal in mind, I can do ok. Dont know if thats helpful for you!
|
I'd like to get in on this if I may... I'll do mine like Iconised Ghost and just update this post when I can. :)
My goals: Eat healthy (no fast food, no soda, no candy/sweets). Do my best to get in a couple of cardio sessions per week. 1/4 - Weight this morning: 180, w/in my cals for the day 1/5 - Weight: 179, w/in my cals for the day 1/6 - Weight: 177, under cals for the day 1/7 - Weight: 175, under cals for the day 1/8 - Weight: 173, under cals for the day, long run 1/9 - Weight: 173, over cals for the day 1/10 - Weight: 175 (sigh), under cals for the day 1/11 - Weight: 174, under cals for the day 1/12 - Weight: 173 (yay!), under cals 1/13 - Weight: 173, under cals 1/14 - Weight: 171 (I like to post in the morning, so I will edit each day the following morning to reflect what really happened) |
Yesterday I did 30 minutes of P90X- Core...I'm bored with these DVD's I have more motivation when it's Jillian then I do with this series. (Probably has to do with my woman crush or something.) But because my CD drive on my laptop doesn't work, I'm kind of stuck with P90X until I get a new one. But on a better note I'm starting the Gym today! I'm kind of excited for it. :) I'll keep you guys posted on that experience.
|
Yesterday my eating was mostly on plan... not perfect, but could have been much worse. My water intake was a little low but I did log in on here, just didn't post. I guess moving in the right direction is better than nothing at all, right?
|
I'm in too! I need this commitment challenge! January 5-February 4
*I commit to working out 5 times a week minimum *Each workout I will do 30 minutes on the elliptical (blah...am I really sure about this lol) *Keep my calorie intake below the alloted amount per day *Weigh once a month (15th) (I do this so I do not obsess over a number) I already journal everything I eat-calories, grams of fat, carbs, protein, fiber, and mg of sodium and my water per day. I will continue doing this in my journal. |
January Goal:
To work out every day with the exception of one day a week I’ll just do P90X Stretch for a “break”. SW: 164 GW: 157 Total: 7 pounds Reward for myself: a new hair cut and a massage (of course with the expense of my company…ha-ha got to love benefits.) Rules: I cannot miss more than 3 workouts in the month of January (Unless it’s due to illness or something broke on my body). If I do miss more than 3 days, no reward for me. |
miz- im sure you can find jillian stuff on youtube? Im pretty sure I tried the 30 day shred or something on youtube (before I remembered how much I hated Jillian and wanted to strangle her, myself or my computer lol). Maybe that would be an option? Good luck at the gym! Excite!
Feral- moving in the right direction is totally progress! |
Day 6 and still going strong, lost 2.2kgs since the 1st Jan :)
|
Sounds like things are going well!!!! :)
Yesterday was GREATTTTT!!!! Got all of my water in, had a kick a$$ work out, eating was OP! WOOHOOO!!!! :) |
The gym didn't work out as planned I didn't end up going BUT I did do the 30 minutes of Cardio X fromt he P90X series which I actually am starting to enjoy if I skip the first 15 minutes of the slow crap. Then I went for a 15 minute brisk walk...snow is hard to run let alone walk in...bleh. but in total I've so far managed to work out three days straight. :)
|
Diet went according to plan last night and I bumped up my elliptical time to 35 minutes instead of 30. Day 1 of 30 was great!
|
Wow! Looks like everyone is doing pretty well so far! Way to go guys, keep it up!! You're all so motivational! :)
|
I'm in. I definitely think that logging on and posting everyday really makes you feel accountable for your actions.
|
Loving this thread.
Yesterday was awesome as far as eating went. Got my water in (love my turvis tumbler cup... anyone else get excited over a new water bottle?!). It was my off day for the gym because I promised a friend I would go see him at work. Stepped on the scale this morning and I'm down 4lb from Tuesday. WAHOO! :) And I'm making up for skipping the gym on Tuesday TODAY. I usually have Friday as an off day, but I made a choice so I'm dealing with the "consequence" of that today. |
I went to the gym yesterday so far 4 days in a row of working out not too bad. I have a gym buddy but were both going for 2 different things, I want to drop 20 to maybe 30 (the pipe dream weight) pounds and she wants to bulk up because she joining the police soon. So it was 30 minutes of cardio then an hour of weights...not bad I don't mind doing weights but something is really wrong with my right elbow because it hurts like **** when I try and lift weights or do a push up. But today I want to do a 30 minutes on the tredmill, do a 45 minute circuit training the gym has to offer then go on and do weights, so I'll see what she says, if she's not game for that...I might just be not having a workout buddy after all. lol.
As long as we switch it up, we do her thing one day and do mine the next cool, and on the days we don't go together we just do our own thing. I won't mind, but if it comes down to always doing her weights and thats it...naw I'm just going to do my own thing, because I'll get bored of the gym and it's pretty expensive to not go to the gym after putting all this money out haha. |
