Hey guys,

Just filling in some time and trying not to freak..We had a massive earthquake in my city today. No power and water until a few hours ago. Still having aftershocks.
I am fine. Everyone I know is fine. A few broken shelves and glasses etc.

Bex - I saw the impact of the earthquake on the news throughout the day. I'm glad your family and friends are safe though. Hopefully those aftershocks don't cause too much more damage.

We've been seeing the earthquake on the news here in the U.S., too--watching it simultaneously as we waited to see whether a hurricane would hit us here in the northeast (didn't happen, everything's *really* fine).

Sorry you're shaken and scared--I hope the cleanup and recovery aren't too hard for you and yours!

Ah! I read about that in the paper this morning. I've been in several earthquakes and even if things are OK afterwards, I know it can really shake you up. Hope you're doing OK and things get back to normal soon!

We are so lucky to all be ok! It happened at 4.35am so thankfully, the city centre wasn't open or anything, otherwise it could have been a different story.

We are still getting aftershocks every now and then. Pretty on edge.

Oh wow, the aftershocks are still going? I am pretty terrible - I only read the newspaper in the weekends occasionally and only watch television at my parents house - so half the time I don't know what's going on.

Is your house and stuff ok? My sister's family through her husband were really lucky - their house is intact but their neighbour's house completely collapsed. It's so crazy.

Yea aftershocks are still pretty bad. Had a few big ones last night that kept us awake most of the night.

It is so overwhelming seeing the houses that have collapsed. Our house is fine. We are very very lucky.

I can't even imagine seeing all the destruction on a daily basis. I'm planning to put some money into one of the rescue/repair funds (they have a few listed on the BNZ website) when I get paid - though I'm not sure that a small donation would really be that much help, I still want to do something.

Yea I want to be out volunteering but also really dont want to leave the house just in case something else happens

Oh, I saw this on the news and right away thought of the ladies on here!! I'm glad everyone is okay!!

And I heard last night that it was so bad it created a new fault line... CRAZYY! It goes through some poor farmers field, no less. And he was interviewed and he was okay with it, his only concern with with his cows falling in to the 5 foot deep ravine,

Its still pretty intense around here. Everyone is on edge. Had a huge aftershock yesterday that has lead to uni being closed for another week and a lot more collapsed buildings etc. Its pretty crazy. Had a couple more big aftershocks today.

We can finally drink tap water though! Woo!

Thought of you when I heard of the big 5.1 aftershock - that's more of another earthquake rather than an "aftershock"! It's so surreal. Glad to hear you're still ok - tap water must be a bonus! Hugs!
