Default Serotonin

I really think a BIG problem of mine is when my serotonin levels drop. Anytime I am sad, extremely tired, or stressed I crave carbs/sugar like you have no idea! And eating the carb actualy does make me feel better. Does anyone know any food combinations that help control this? Half of my stress comes from this whole "changing my eating habbits" ordeal but then I stress because I am not happy with my body. Ugh it feels so lose lose.

Sorry for the not so uplifting post. I am just EXAHUSTED today. I feel like I am half asleep. I havent been sleeping well and it has really been affecting my moods and sugar cravings :/

I'm sorry! I wish I could help. My battle is with refined sugar...I knew this lady who only had a cup of coffee for breakfast, then for lunch she had more coffee, and a king size snicker bar, and chicken breast every flippin' evening. It drove me crazy b/c she was rail thin. I don't know even know how she survived on a diet like that! Ok, sure she looked like Cruella Deville body wise, but anyway, my point is, having a snicker bar every day sure does sound appealing. Actually, I have no point. lol This lady was just weird.

Guam,

Please, PLEASE tell me how you did it? NO matter what I do, I cant seem to stick to plan. I get so stressed out and just eat. How did you stay on plan and beat SCIENCE (meaning cravings, low sugar levels, etc.)?? Can you tell me a little bit about your "success story"?

HI THERE! In a nutshell, I eat half of what the old me would have eaten, or half of a half. I found that if I deprive myself, I end up falling hard and fast off the wagon. For example, this lady was selling that world greatest chocolate here at work for $2. I love that stuff! (the whole bar was 1,000 calories) So I bought one, and only had a "square" and purposely gave the rest away despite how much I wanted it. Moderation was the key for me! I still battle with sweets. I love biscuits, peanut m&m's, hot tamale candy, and flaming hot cheetos have always, and will always be my weakness! Something that helps with this strict portion control is drinking a big gulp of water prior to me eating my victim. I've done pretty good so far. If I let it consume me, I become it's victim and I worked much too hard to let myself get to that point!

I hope it helps you a little. Try eating just the serving size of what you crave, and then move down to half the serving size. It's hard. It's still hard, but I gotta keep on going if I want to stay this size...did I mention being 6.5 months pregnant with intense cravings makes it THAT much harder! UGH! You are alone hun.

The book "Potatoes Not Prozac" by Dr. Kathleen DesMaisons has fabulous information about the connection between brain chemistry and food. That book revolutionized my understanding of food. And it looks like you can buy it on amazon for a penny!

Guam Thanks so much! Sometimes all it takes is hearing something over and over to keep it working. I dont know whats been going on with me latley. My moods have been so up and down. I really hope its just a hormonal phase I am going through and nothing serious (depression or bipolar). I hate that I cant be comfortable or happy with myself until I lose this weight. Congrats on reaching your goal and congrats on being pregnant!! What a happy time

Rochester Im going to google the book now and see what its all about. Thank you
