Default Caffeine?!

I have noticed for some time now that I DO NOT get quality sleep. I def. get enough, around 8 hours, but I wake up SO tired and am soooo sleepy during the day. I exercise, eat right, get plenty of sleep and drink a lot of water. I am thinking that maybe my 2-3 glasses of tea during the day might be causing me to have poor sleep? I find myself waking up 2390 times during the night. I also nightmare every night. Does anyone know if the caffeine in my green tea could be whats causing my poor sleep? Its very frustrating because no matter how good I eat or exercise, I am always soooo tired and have such low energy due to poor sleep the night before

If its green tea it shouldn't be affecting you that much. Maybe try switching to decaf and testing it out?

Also, are there other things going on? Work/school stress - or maybe noises/lights in your room that you're not really aware of that are waking you up?

It sounds like you just might be stressed.

Are you on any medications? A lot of them can interfere with sleep quality. Caffeine shouldn't bother you as long as you don't have any 5-6 hrs before bed. It processes in the body fairly quickly.

Darn, that is a bit dissapointing. I was really hoping it was the caffeine because that is something I can fix! I do have a lot on my plate but I dont think I stress more than normal or anyone else. I've learned to manage everything. I have had nightmares everynight since I can remember. Argh. How do you fix this?! I cant stop myself from having nightmares. I cant stop myself from having a lot on my plate.

I do wake up VERY easily to noise. The little sound of the air conditioning turning on wakes me up! But I think I only wake up easy because I am not really in a deep sleep..

It very well might be the caffeine, if you're very caffeine sensitive. I have to get in all of my caffeine before noon if I'm going to sleep before midnight, so some people are more sensitive to it than others. You can give it a shot (saving it for morning only) and see if it helps.

I'm very sensitive to caffeine too. I can't drink coffee after noon or 1pm or I'll lie in bed tossing and turning no matter how tired I am. If you are sensitive to little noises, I would recommend some steady white noise. I do this for my daughter. Depending on what the weather is, a fan, humidifier, or just a white noise machine. It should drown out lots of inconsistent noises. Also, do you watch TV before bed? If you're watching crime stuff or scary things right before you sleep, that might be contributing to nightmares?

Yay! Yay! I like that maybe I am caffeine sensitive. That could be it!

And Denice that is a good idea about drowning out the inconsistent noises. I like how you word that. Because its not necessarily noise that keeps me from falling asleep, its the inconsistency of a noise. Like a tapping or a dog barking..etc..

Thank you all so much! I hope I can figure out the problem because I cant function this way with everything on my plate. All I want to do is go back to be for another 2983408 hours!

Dianne - along with cutting out tea after noon and using a white noise machine (this has helped me enormously), you might also want to journal your nightmares. Sometimes that allows your brain to 'dump' the thoughts that are working their way in your subconscious and the nightmares work themselves out.

Also, if a white noise machine doesn't work, earplugs might. Good luck!

Dianne, when I had issues sleeping b/c of stress of whatever, I'd take about 30 minutes before bed to relax. I'd listen to soft music and have some herbal (non-caffeine) tea. It just helped to have my system slowly shut down.

The white noise also helps - I use a fan.

Hmm Journaling is an interesting Idea. Maybe I'll start a blog. I had one HORRIBLE one last night. Seriously my nightmares are not normal. That are plain weird!

Stella, I have tried that before. I am very good at creating a calming environment. I take baths with candles, read, drink tea, relax, count sheep, etc. My room is even tranquil looking. I have a canopy dark wood bed with a white canopy with an all white bed spread. My entire room is candles and the colors are all off white, white, and beige. I like calming lol

But thanks for the tips everyone. I am falling asleep as we speak and all this talk of "calming" has me bout ready to crash lol

You may be getting enough sleep... but the key word is "quality sleep." You can buy Melatonin over the counter in the vitamin section. It really helps me, I just take it about 10 minutes before going to bed. One of the Psychiatrists I work with recommended it. He prescribes it to just about all of his patients. He suggested that maybe I wasn't going into the final stage of sleep, therefore not getting the quality of sleep I need. Melatonin really helps with this. Just a suggestion

If I have chocolate before bed, I have violent nightmares. I noticed it only happens on nights where I have chocolate at least an hour before bed. Chocolate does have caffine in it as well. Maybe look at if you eat before bed?
