20-Somethings WW Chat Thread

Hi guys, I posted a thread yesterday and got a lot of responses from 20-somethings doing WW so at the suggestion of Feral decided to start a thread here on our board rather than one over on the WW board.

Feel free to chime in and give/receive support! I've always done best when visiting this forum regularly to chat to other people doing WW so please don't hesitate to jump on this thread and take part in discussions!

----

I had a great day today, the sun is shining for about the tenth day in a row (fantastic for 'rainy England') and so I walked from home to town, had lunch with friends and made some pretty good choices (fresh pasta with spinach, chili and leeks and some ciabatta slices w/o butter or oil), and then walked home again. I walked quickly for probably at least an hour and a half, and then wandered around town at a slower pace for a while, but only tracked an hour for APs. This is my first day back on WW and I intended to do the 30 Day Shred today as well but think I'll save it for tomorrow now. My legs are still a bit stiff from walking almost 8 miles on Saturday!

How is everyone else doing?

freedomreins 04-27-2010 05:05 AM

No responses at all so far eh? I worry this thread's gotten a bit lost already.

I took my 'official' weigh in today. It's 153.4. I'm going to change my ticker (make it honest!) and hope for a loss next week. I planned out what I'm going to eat today last night so I think I'm making a pretty good start conquering my first week!

zanheltangia 04-27-2010 09:40 AM

Congrats on taking the first step! ;)

I've been doing weight watchers since 12/30/09, and have been haunting 3FC's WW section ever since,. It can be rather quiet there, either that or I post far too much!

I've got a WI tomorrow after my doctor's appointment. Here's to truckin' along! :coffee:

freedomreins 04-28-2010 02:14 PM

Best of luck Zan! :) Thanks for joining the thread. Day 3 down, and this was the first day so far that I've actually felt full so I must be getting used to WW amounts again!

rosekeet 04-28-2010 05:04 PM

I do simply filling (formerly known as core). This week is going okay. I'm totally bogged down with school work since the semester is coming to a close. I'm also joining a fraternity (its all women, why its a fraternity, I don't know) so I'm swamped with that also. It's hard cause whenever I'm stressing I get munchies hard core. And somehow baby carrots just aren't the same as dorritos!

vixxi 04-28-2010 07:42 PM

Hey ladies, I'd love to join you! I've done WW in the past and have lost 42lbs! Unfortunately, I've gained it all back due to medication. (which I stopped taking!). So, I'd like to start over. I've had many 'false starts", starting and cheating, one day on, another day cheating, two days on third day cheat....etc..etc. I really, really need a kick in the butt! Hopefully you ladies will help keep me on track! Im starting over tomorrow, no excuses, no exceptions! I follow the flex plan!

PlatinumGi 04-28-2010 07:55 PM

Hey everyone ! I started doing WW about 2 months ago but have only lost just about 5 lbs. I can't complain because 5lbs off is better than 5 lbs on !! I work out, recently I started running 3 miles 3 or 4 times a week and doing Shaun T's insanity. I'm hoping the weight comes off a little faster but off is off no matter how slow or fast. I have about 30 lbs to lose and would like to lose at least half of that before my birthday which is Sept 30th.
I hope everyone is doing well and has had a great day.
Anyone have any good WW recipes they want to share ?? How do you work out ? :) How much weight do you want to lose ? Ok that's all my questions for now..hehe.

OneStepAtATime 04-29-2010 12:36 AM

Hooray for a WW thread!

I've been doing WW for about a year, but I've lost/gained due to not being fully on-plan like I should. However, I really renewed my efforts in January, and I've been losing the weight today, albeit slowly.

I feel like lately I've been using too many weekly points, so I've been trying to save a lot of them (ideally 15). I haven't quite gotten there this week, due to a few mistakes, but I did great today- no weekly points used at all :)

Nice to meet everyone! I'm hoping to get some good information and support from all of you :D

rosekeet 04-29-2010 12:52 AM

The body is so weird...some weeks I'm perfect and don't lose much, other weeks I'm bad and lose a lot! Ah, well, I know the program works if you just stick too it.

Anyone have any favorite low point snacks/treats?

I'm currently obsessed with skinny cow peanut butter-chocolate ice cream sandwiches.

freedomreins 04-29-2010 01:47 PM

rosekeet - Welcome! I'm a bit like that too, I used to eat all my weekly points and all my activity points and lose plenty sometimes. My favourite treats are probably the new Fibre Plus bars (basically Fibre One bars but in the UK) and low fat hot chocolate, but not so much now that it's warming up outside.

vixxi - Hi! I'm starting over too. I initially lost 20lbs on WW and now am trying to get the last 10 off for good. I was not doing well with calorie counting and find the WW program easier to follow.

PlatinumGi - How is Insanity going? I have not tried that one but have attempted Slim in Six (though not for the full six weeks). Right now I am trying to do the 30DS as many times a week as possible and I walk to and from university which is about 20 minutes each way. I want to reach my final goal of 145 by July 21. I'm sure if you stick with it you'll reach yours by Sept 30 - that's my brother's birthday too. :)

OneStep - Thanks for joining us :D Looks like you're doing great already. Let us know how eating only half (ish) of your flex points works out.

---

Phew, I'm exhausted, I spent the whole day (9-5) at uni. I worked until 2, touring visiting students around and leading them in activities, and then had a meeting with a tutor and coffee with a friend. I feel like my energy was up-up-UP all morning and I'm crashing now. It's hard to be enthusiastic all the time, lol. I feel like I spent most of the day talking a mile a minute.

I ate 7 flex points today. Our lunch is determined by what's available in the uni canteen and so I didn't have any of my 20 points left when I got back for dinner. I can't say I made the best choice for dinner though... cheese on toast and Doritos. Whoops. I looooove cheese on toast!! I'll be better tomorrow!

Have a great day everyone!

rosekeet 04-29-2010 01:59 PM

I lost around 20lbs in high school and kept it off for three years. Gained it slowly back when I started college and started a new medication.

I had a great NSV this morning! I have this button-up leopard print shirt I haven't been able to wear in like 6 months +. Last time I tried it on I could just BARELY button it. There was no way I could wear it in public. And today, it fit! Comfortably! :) I wore it with my new jeans (one size SMALLER!) and am feeling really good about myself today.

I hope everyone else is having a good day as well. I hope the feeling last because I only have three weeks left of this semester and am trying not to go crazy.

Tamara 04-29-2010 04:04 PM

Hi everyone. I joined WW first in January 2009. I lasted about a month before quitting. I rejoined in December 2009, and despite not weighing in for a month, I am still a member. I will be going to my next weigh in, this Saturday!

With consistent tracking and an intense exercise routine, I lose on WW. But I need to get back there. This next meeting will give me another "starting point" and allow me to revisit my goals.

PlatinumGi 04-29-2010 06:27 PM

freedomreins Insanity is INSANE ! It's awesome though. I tried doing P90X but it was a little to slow for me. I will try it again after I finish insanity. Shaun T is pretty entertaining and he def keeps me motivated. It's hard work but it's great. Do you like 30DS ? I've heard lots of things about it...mixed reviews.
I love knowing about other people who share the same b-day :) Libras are the best !
Good luck on your goal, I'm sure you'll make it !!

freedomreins 04-30-2010 03:21 AM

Rosekeet - What a fantastic NSV! Congrats!

Tamara - Welcome! I hope we can all help each other and keep each other on track ;) Good luck with your meeting!

Platinum - Wow, you have a lot more stamina than I do! By the time I'm done the 30DS I'm pretty tired and it's only 25 minutes. I've done it five times over about two weeks and already I can feel a difference in my arms/strength. I can feel a bicep under there now! If you're used to Insanity/P90x, 30DS would probably be too easy for you!

---

I saw 153.0 on the scale this morning! Yesterday was a planned high day too so I'm thrilled. It's not a huge loss but I'll take it! I don't think I've seen 153 since just after Christmas.

Have a good day everyone!

zanheltangia 04-30-2010 08:41 AM

Usually I am better at keeping up with threads, but these past two days (full of doctor appointments/etc) have been crazy!

Well, I lost 1.2 pound on my WI, which is awesome because the scale at the doctor's and publix showed me no change. Thankfully I only rely on the WI scale, or the others would have bugged me. :D

Congrats, guys.

freedomreins 05-01-2010 03:12 AM

Hi everyone! My mom's arriving this afternoon for a week (she's coming from Canada to see me - I'm in the South of England) so I won't be around much at all. My mom's totally up for eating well and I'll be cooking most of our meals so I intend to continue tracking my points and hope to see a loss at the end of her trip (weight-wise, not her going home :( ...bad joke I know).

Anyway, best of luck this week all! I will definitely be here to change my ticker on Monday!

bex 05-01-2010 06:15 AM

Yay good idea for a thread!
I've been doing WW for 2 months and lost 8.7kg which is 19lbs. I love it! Feeling so good about myself and my how far I have come.

This week has been going really well so far. Heres hoping the scales on Tuesday agree!

OneStepAtATime 05-01-2010 03:41 PM

Rosekeet: With regards to snacks, right now I'm totally on a rice cake kick. My husband laughs at me, but a large caramel rice cake is only one point (or 1.5 for two) and really take the edge off. And it's fantastic!

Tamara: I'm the same way. I really can lose on WW, but it's the whole keeping exactly on track, and including the exercise. Without it, I just kind of maintain or even gain a little bit.

As for keeping half my weekly points...it didn't go so well this week. Part of it was a mistake and not realizing how many points I'd had until after I tracked them, and part of it was having pizza and breadsticks yesterday:( But I figure, at least I'm still technically on track (I'm within the appropriate amount of points), and tomorrow is my weigh in day, so it gives me a new chance to start over :carrot::carrot:

bex 05-03-2010 02:47 AM

I'm going to bump this thread cos I am freaking out about weigh in tomorrow and need some kind words to keep me going. :P

How is everyone going this week?

freedomreins 05-03-2010 04:18 AM

Bex, I'm sure your weigh-in will be fine if you've been on plan! I have been, though I definitely ate all my activity points as well as my weekly ones I think. Or came close. Today starts a new week but I will weigh in tomorrow morning.

Good luck Bex and have a good week everyone! :)

bex 05-03-2010 04:44 AM

I have been exactly on plan, I just always freak out :P

I guess its a defense mechanism that saves me from failure..

zanheltangia 05-03-2010 12:41 PM

Bex, I think that being concerned about WIs is a part of this whole weightloss adventure. It's our suspense and drama! :D Like a good book. Or am I just really weird? ^_^v;;

OneStepAtATime 05-03-2010 11:27 PM

Bleh, I hate weigh ins. Rather...I feel like it sets my whole week. if it's good, I'm on track. If it's not...bleh.

So far this week, I've been good with my eating and keeping weekly points. Let's hope for a good day (and good weigh ins, if you have them) tomorow!

bex 05-04-2010 03:53 AM

I only lost 400grams which is .9lbs but a loss is a loss I guess! Excited to have a super amazing week to get to 10kg next week. :)

zanheltangia 05-05-2010 08:35 AM

Picture .9 pounds of butter (almost 4 sticks!), I think that is a great loss! :D

Every pound and point of a pound down is awesome, a maintain is great, and a gain = reevaluate! :p

I'm having a stressful past two days, hoping for a quick week and long weekend. :hug:s to all.

bex 05-05-2010 08:01 PM

zanheltangia: You are so lovely. I really needed that. My friend I am doing this with is going at a much faster pace than I am and I'm feeling like a complete failure. :(

My last few days have been stressful too. I have so many assignments to do and I'm not doing any of them :P
Hope you are less stressed now and having a great day xx

bex 05-06-2010 06:14 AM

Yay just had an awesome workout! I am already feeling better about next weeks weigh in. Now gotta make sure I get back in the morning.
How is everyone?

zanheltangia 05-07-2010 09:11 AM

I know that it is hard not to, but try your best to not compare your weight loss numbers with your weight loss buddy's numbers. Everyone's body works just a little differently (may it be how they react to prescriptions or the food we eat or even exercise, and how all of what we do each day effects us, etc) and that is the same with weight loss.

Try to focus on the patterns of your weight loss instead. Say if you notice that you are losing less than usual each week, you could go back and see what you have changed or are missing. Or if the weight loss was awesome one week maybe there is something that you could use the next, and so on.

I am just trying to stay on plan food wise at the moment. I got back to the gym yesterday and did pretty good, or so I think ;), but I really need to make it a habit to go. That seems to be the hard part for me right now.

bex 05-08-2010 09:11 PM

I screwed upppppp! I had my best friends 21st last night and was so good at avoiding cake and pies and pizza but I am so sure I went over my points drinks wise. Aghh. I feel so bad. But I have decided if I have a gain then I have a gain and I'll be back on it from now on.

How is everyone?

rayosun 05-09-2010 01:16 PM

Ate what feels like the biggest lunch ever. Ever since I started WW I've always felt satisfied but never super full. I had made chicken thighs (had them in the oven for several hours) and then put a bit of bbq sauce on each one. I had planned on eating one but I ended up eating three because they were too good to resist. (epic willpower fail)

Went to points tracker and apparently the bbq sauce is zero points and the three boneless skinless thighs are 8.5 points. It feels like I've eaten 15 though. Let me tell you, never again...not sure if I'll have room to finish the rest of my points I feel that full.

Yesterday I went to see Iron Man 2. Like an idiot I didn't eat lunch before I went and I ended up buying a turkey and cheese wrap. The place didn't have any nutrition info so I couldn't accurately calculate points. The deli cheat sheet makes me think it was somewhere around 12-15 points. But I had 18 points and didn't eat anything after the wrap so I think I'm okay.

I really wish more places outside would try posting the nutrition information. It's better than just guessing.

freedomreins 05-09-2010 04:34 PM

rayosun - It doesn't sound like you did that badly if you were still within your points. I think the best thing I keep hearing is that if you screw up, you get back on plan with the next MEAL, not the next day. I am so bad for this though - if I eat off plan at lunch I usually eat off plan at dinner and blow through a ton of extra points/calories for the day with the plan of restarting the next day. From now on though, I vow to start again at the next meal! I wish more companies posted their nutritional information too. Have you got a copy of the WW Dining Out guide? I don't know how current mine is since it's about three years old now but I find that helpful for guessing if I can't find the exact restaurant.

bex - Hey, your friend only turns 21 once right? At least, I did, so if I should have turned 21 again this year someone should have told me ahead of time! LOL. Just try to guess your points and start a new day tomorrow. It's hard sometimes but this is supposed to be a lifestyle change for us right? And sometimes life throws fantastic parties in there and we go a bit overboard. :) No harm in having a bit of fun once in a while!

---

My mom was visiting for the past week so I know I didn't lose anything this week - in fact I'm sure I gained. But I had a great time with her and, when possible, I cooked us hearty low-point and healthy meals at home instead of going out. I didn't keep track of points this week though. Tomorrow is Monday and the start of a new week for me so onwards and downwards! :)

Have a great week ladies!!

freedomreins 05-10-2010 04:38 AM

Here I am again, just posting my weigh-in results. Before mom got here I was 10st10lbs (152lbs) and I weighed in this morning at 11st (154lbs). I really need to remember to change my scale to stones so that I don't have to keep looking it up. I can't convert it in my head and I'm not used to using them but the UK WW is by that or kgs, and I'm even worse with kgs!

I've started planning my day and this gain is okay with me. I'm still a pound lighter than I was when I started WW on the 19th of April. So my weight is still technically going down! :)

Have a great day everyone!

zanheltangia 05-10-2010 08:24 AM

I cannot imagine trying to convert my weight in three different systems, that would drive me a bit batty. ;)

You did pretty good, Freedom. You'll work off that Mom's visit weight pretty soon,.

Bex, you did great watching the food intake. As long as you had fun, a little slip up on the drinks should be fine, it was a special occassion. Mark it down and move on like you planned on doing, :D.

Well, since I was too lazy to leave my house this weekend to go grocery shopping, I was way under my fruit and veggies. Especially yesterday, I only had a small bag of carrots. I think that is why my stomach is complaining this morning. Ughhhhhhhh. :tired:

Happy Monday, all.

bex 05-10-2010 06:36 PM

Exactly. Its not the end of the world. I am 90% sure I am going to have a gain but I know I'm going to have situations like this. If I wasn't in bed with the flu I would be at the gym now trying to work it off!!

And yea I know what you mean. I weigh in as kgs and always come on here and convert it into pounds to put it on here. Kilos x 2.2 gets you to pounds so I hate it. The smaller the number the better in my opinion!! :P

Its starting to get colder here and my kitten is feeling it too so shes being all cuddly which is awesome!

I really need to get my fruit and veges intake up too. I am going to come home after my meeting and plan out my entire week this week so I can get some amazing results next week.

And freedom I would happy with your results. And congrats on having such a positive outlook. I'm hoping I will be the same and not go off the rails. I think with the support of here I should be fine :)

bex 05-11-2010 03:31 AM

OMFG! I had a loss. And not just any loss. 0.9kg/2lbs which brings me to 10kg which was one of my mini goals which means I am getting my hair dyed.

I AM STOKED!!! :D

zanheltangia 05-11-2010 08:41 AM

:bravo: Bex!

Hair dyed, eh? Can we see? :D

Congrats!

freedomreins 05-11-2010 01:37 PM

Well done Bex! That's fantastic! I want to see your newly dyed hair too, once you've done it! :)

bex 05-12-2010 02:17 AM

I havent done it yet. Not sure whether to fork out and do it professionally or just buy a box. We shall see. But yay I'm still buzzing!

How is everyone else going?

freedomreins 05-12-2010 03:20 AM

Only been two days back on track and saw 153.4 this morning so happily heading in the right direction :)

Bex, I've had my hair coloured professionally and I've done it out of a box and I think it depends what you want out of it. I never do permanent ones out of a box in case it goes wrong, but there are 28 days/shampoos ones that I use. Then you don't have to worry about just touching up your roots because you can choose to do your whole head again in a month or a bit more (generally lasts a bit more than that for me, though it does fade a bit). I've never had a full head of hair dyed professionally, just streaks, but it takes a lot longer and still grows out and then looks a little funny if you don't go back and pay to touch it up.

You may have done both before yourself so this is irrelevant information but thought I'd throw it in there anyway ;)

How much exercise do you guys do? As this is a lifestyle change I don't want to make myself do anything I wouldn't do for life. I am relatively active, walking to university (about 2 miles roundtrip) 3-4 days a week and then doing something active on the weekend with my boyfriend like another walk somewhere. I'm not sure if this is enough though. I just know that when I do exercise I get super hungry and sometimes my daily points just don't cut it to take the hunger away. I want to tone up but not sure how much cardio I need to get in there to make it worthwhile.

bex 05-12-2010 04:04 AM

Yea I have done it from a box before many a time but I wanted to treat myself a bit more this time. I just quit my job though though I don't have much money! I might just get a box. Thinking to do it a real chocolatey brown with some red in it maybe. I will def put up photos when its all done.

I havent been doing nearly enough exercise lately. I am really sick at the moment. Only leaving bed when I have to but usually I try and get to the gym at least 3 times a week and try and walk to work.
