Well, if you are looking for toning, I'd do weight lifting more so than just walking. Plus the muscle will help burn calories when you are just sitting around, ;).
|
Hello! *Waves*
I hope I'm not intruding, as I'm not a WW-er, but can I ask a question? |
You're welcome to, :)
WW or not, :welcome2: What's the question? |
Thank you!
You'd be surprised at rude some people can be about things. Can you use WW to maintain rather than lose? |
Yes. You can use WW to maintain.
Basically when you go in to get the starting information (or when you get a kit), ask the leader or receptionist about maintaining. I think you get another 4 daily points more or so than if you were looking to lose weight (BUT DO NOT QUOTE ME,) :D I am guessing. I am pretty far from it myself, but I'll see what my leader says about it tonight or I'll ask a lifetimer if she happens to show up to this week. I'll pass it off as curiousity and future planning, so I think I should be able to get some of the information - if I am lucky. :p Otherwise I will check the WW website forums as a last resort (I do not like their forums, some people on there are a little less supportative then the awesome 3FCers that I have met on here) I hope this helps. But yes, you can maintain on WWs. |
I'll have to invest in a set of weights. Problem is, I don't have a car, and I don't live near a place that would sell them, so would have to carry them home from town somewhere! That has kept me from buying a set already. Though I suppose I could order online...
MJ, my aunt started maintaining on WW about a year ago and got an extra 4 points added to her daily total. Plus you can still earn activity points and you have your flex points, but instead of having say 20 points per day, you'd start off with 24. Hope that helps :) Get well soon Bex! |
Hey ladies, room for one more? :)
I lost 30lb on WW in nine months during 2008-2009, maintained for about another nine months, and spent the last nine months putting it all back on. Ugh. I'm pretty sick of it. A lot of things have happened in my life that threw my routine topsy-turvy - divorce, medical issues, career stress, moving, family drama... It just became easier to fall back into my old habit of eating for comfort rather than accepting and dealing with my challenges. So I'm here at about 209, from a lowest of 183 in Feb of 2009. That's when I stopped attending meetings, too. I'm moving in a week and a half and plan to start attending meetings again when I do. I've already looked up where the nearest center will be. The meetings really help my mindset from week to week, I've never been as successful when I try to just wing it at home. Last time I weighed I was around 209.something, and I am not weighing again until I go to a meeting. Until then I am going to get myself back on track. I'm having a bit of a destructive relationship with my scale right now so cutting back on the weighing will be good for me! I love WW. It is such a great program for me. I can't wait to get started again :) |
Okay, thank you. I'm trying to figure out my maintaining-for-life plan.
|
In my opinion, there is always room for more, :D. Hiya, abluvion!
Yeah, stress and other issues can sure throw one off track. I'm trying to prevent that now as I've got doctors poking me, e.e;;. I hope the stress gets left behind and leaves you be, Abluvion. Freedomreins, I recommend amazon or something like that where you can get sale prices and free shipping. :goodluck: |
Hi abluvion! Of course there's room for you here :) Good luck getting back on track. A lot of things can get in the way of a healthy lifestyle. If you feel yourself slipping come back here and get some support! You can do it!!
|
Yay new people! Welcome to the best thread on the whole forum :P
I dunno Freedom you could get a super good workout walking home with them :P mjhart23 - I know in New Zealand you can only join if you are 2kg (4.5lbs) overweight and when you get to your goal weight if you stay 2kg within that (above or below) the meetings are free. Its quite a cool plan. I'm not sure how it works where you are but I'm thinking there may be a free phone number you can ring and ask them :) abluvion - Isn't WW just amazing! I love the freedom and the support. I think it is such an amazing program and def more than a quick fix. I wish you all the best of luck and cant wait to here your progress! I am feeling worse today! Gah and I have a massive essay to write! Woo for me. I'm thinking to stay in bed and try and get it done. Its awful stormy weather here today. Ew. How is everyone? Whats the goss? :P |
Hey, I'm on WW and wanna join in on this thread too :)
I've done WW before in the past and always lost weight on it. I never gained any weight back until recently.... Started dating my boyfriend and the "boyfriend layer" happened. Meh. I lost everything I gained, and now I'm on my way to goal. Yay. Hope everyone has a good day. |
I know what you mean about the boyfriend layer! I got that plus the moving out of home plus the alcohol layer in 3 years. Not cool!
Welcome to the thread! Its my favourite :) |
I think mine was an overall "I don't care" layer since early middle school.
Well, I am back, but not completely, ;) A bit scatterbrained I seem to be. :D Happy Thursday all. I've gone and bought myself and my parents a set of shinny new digital scales. My first scale period, and their first digital one. This will be interesting since I plan to swipe their old mechanical one and hide it under my sister's bed while I leave the new one in its old spot. That way if they absolutely loathe it for some odd reason, they can switch back. Mine is an odd gift to myself for finally getting a room with a connected bathroom (I'm a room-renter). I cannot wait until I move into the Master Bedroom, muahaha! I'll probably stop paying for WWs sometime after I get a nice set of numbers from my scale to start off with. Meetings are a mix of giving my input and wincing at the negativity of others, so I don't think I need them at the moment, so we'll see if that has any effect on my weightloss. (I can always go back, ;)) And I get more chatter and ideas off of this site anyhow. I won't become a Downer Debbie by going into the results of my doctors' appointments, but it all will be as normal as can be in the future, so yay there! :dizzy: So, how have you all been? |
Bex - Tell your body to stop being sick and get better! LOL I know that's far easier said than done. I have a cold at the moment and it is, thankfully, the wimpiest cold I have ever had so it's not stopping me from doing anything and it's not keeping me awake at night. Hope you feel better soon!
Oodles - I gained a little bit of a 'boyfriend layer' as well but thankfully he eats immensely well for a 22 year old university student! We're both broke so instead of going out we often had nights in and took turns cooking for each other which saved money AND calories! I probably put on about 5 pounds which is what I'm working on getting off now to get back to my original lowest weight of 150. :) Well done so far, you can do it! Zan - Welcome back! Glad to see you here again. I have a very cheap digital scale, so to be honest I'm not sure how accurate it is but it works for me as long as it's on a flat surface. I've never paid for WW except for their online points tracker because I find it pretty convenient. If the people in your meeting are being negative, you don't need that! Come here instead! :D Glad your doctor's appointments have been on the positive side. --- My boyfriend was offered a job yesterday! It has been a grueling wait - he had two interviews six weeks apart and then we waited over a week to hear if they wanted to hire him or not. It's for a big company in Cambridge and he's only going to be a graduate so doesn't have as much experience as older candidates - they liked him so much they gave him the job anyway! I am so thrilled and excited about moving but now I have to find a job for myself. I don't have one at the moment because I'm finishing my Masters but as of August I'll be done, extending my visa, and looking for something full-time. This will be our first time living together as well, and having a flat of our own. Eeee! So exciting!! :D It sounds so house-wifey but I can't wait to host dinner parties. I'm going to be the young, sophisticated (yeah right), friendly foreign (he's English, I'm Canadian) girlfriend who makes amazing meals for his workmates and their partners. Can't wait! :D The main reason I mention this is that I am making us a fancy Greek-style meal tomorrow since it's not something we usually have. I'm going to make chicken skewers and this Greek pie thing I found the recipe for that is basically roasted peppers (or sundried tomatoes), spinach, and feta cheese wrapped in filo pastry. I calculated the points for 1/2 chicken breast worth of skewers (they are alternated with veggies like peppers and onions) and a third of the pie and it only came out to 5.5 so pretty pleased with that. Oh, and I'm going to make rhubarb crumble for dessert. With custard for him and none for me because custard is disgusting! :carrot::carrot::carrot::carrot::carrot: Hope you're all having a wonderful week! I know I am! |
I don't know if this is going to work but here is my new hair!
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...e/SDC11263.jpg |
Ah Bex I LOVE it! It's so dark and shiny! Did you go professional or out of a box? You look so smiley and happy too - I take it you are happy with it? :)
|
Aw, you're so cute!!!
I love the hair too, :D |
Thanks guys!
I am soooo happy with it. Went out for dinner with some friends last night and got so many compliments about it. :) And I ended up getting it professionally done. I thought I deserved it :P |
I think you deserve it too! :D
Have a good week guys! What's everyone up to? |
I am going to have no life all week. At work today and then will be spending the rest of my week at the library I think. I am sooo behind with my work at the moment!
How is everyone else going? |
Aghh I am so angry and stressed out right now.
I was just talking to my dad on the phone and he was like hows the gym been going lately? And because I am sick I haven't gone in a while so I said how I'd mainly been sitting in front of the fire trying to get study done (its cold here) and he goes well as long as you haven't been sitting in front of the fire eating chips. AGH WHAT DOES HE THINK I AM!?! I haven't lost this weight by doing that. I think he thinks I still have these awful habits that I used to have and it really got to me. Probably more than usual due to the current time of month but agh. It frustrates me. They try and be supportive but its always oh you're doing so well, nearly there etc. When I was at my lowest it was always yea shes nearly there. Never hasn't she done amazing. Vent over. I'm at work. In tears. AND ITS LAME! |
bex - parents can be rather thick. so can siblings and friends. it's no body's business whether you're eating chips or not - the fact that you're over that habit is beside the point. maybe just be firm with him next time and say, this isn't up for discussion? your comments aren't helpful, I have this under control? I'm sorry people are making you stressed
free - exciting, moving in with the bf! and congrats to him on the job. I totally feel ya on the housewifely type activities - I am moving in with my bf this weekend actually, and am totally looking forward to it for the same reasons. And not being in a long-distance relationship anymore. That part will be awesome too :) Weekend was decent eating-wise though I haven't officially been tracking. I need to get on that. Had a nice talk with the boy about what I need to do for myself, he's totally supportive. We have a plan of attack for once I move down to be with him, and in the week remaining here I am going to focus in on restarting my healthy eating habits and get some exercise too. |
Bex - I agree with abluvion, you may just have to let your dad know that his comments hurt you somehow. I was a chunky kid (though still in a healthy BMI for my height) and my dad BET me $100 I couldn't lose ten pounds. I was about 12 years old at the time so had no control over what was purchased in the house for meals and my mom generally cooked good meals for us anyway. I think my mom went after him (they were divorced) for his stupid bet, which I didn't realize at the time was so inappropriate and cruel to offer a 12 year old. Thinking back now, though, he wasn't open to helping me in any way except to make me feel bad about being chubby. So don't let parents, who probably mean well but don't seem to show it, get you down! You know you can do this and you'll show him that your old habits have died and you've picked up new ones! You wouldn't have lost 22lbs if you hadn't changed your habits and it's a shame he can't see how hard you're working.
abluvion - How exciting! I can't wait to move in with him, I wish I was doing it this weekend too! LOL. We live about an hour apart now so we only see each other on weekends or holidays. We've been together almost a year and a half and originally went to the same university (he's still there, I moved to a different one to do my masters). How far are you moving and you are moving into his place to be together or getting a new one? From where I am now, our new place will be about 3 hours North and will be new for both of us so we're going up in June to do some flat-hunting. I'm glad your boyfriend is supportive and willing to help you out when you move in together. :) --- Weighed in this morning at 153.0 so down exactly one pound. I saw 152.6 earlier in the week but I always eat the most points on the weekend so why my weigh in day is a Monday I have NO idea! But determined to eat well this week and then spend some flex points on the weekend again. :) Happy Monday! |
Hey, congrats on the pound! Excellent :D Do your Monday WIs help you feel accountable on the weekends? If it helps you stay on track a bit, then it may be a good thing!
My BF and I are currently 2.5 hours apart, so we've only gotten weekends as well... I'm moving down to where he lives now. He's in the Navy so he can't exactly leave the ocean, though I prefer my mountain setting... It'll be worth it though. I lived in the area when I was a kid so it will be a return of sorts. He's in barracks right now so the move will be new for both of us. I'm incredibly excited about it... dreaming of paint colors :) When we were apartment hunting we walked around the neighborhood a lot and talked about how we could see ourselves running by the waterside together, hanging out in the park nearby, etc - so it bodes well for an active future. This is going to be a good change. And my boss is letting me take my job with me til I find new employment (tho he doesn't exactly know I am looking), so I get to maintain my income as well! I just want the move part over and done with. Oy. Still so much packing to do! |
Yeah, folks can be tough to deal with from time to time. Just keep going and get your studying done. What are you working on, Bex?
And that was pretty harsh of him, Freedomreins, :(. I've got a pair of pals coming down from GA in a two months, I'd like to be out of the obese range at that point and it is starting to look like I'll make it and maybe a little more, :D. My mother and sister have commented that I look a lot better, but I can only see a little change. Crazy how we can barely see it in ourselves sometimes, ;), but it does change (and I can tell with how my clothes drop in size and the old ones hang). |
Exciting bout moving in with the boys! I have been living with my boyfriend for ages now and cant imagine not living with him. Its so lovely!
Congrats on the pound Freedom! I am worrying about my weigh in today. Havent had a great week and havent exercised much. Exciting about seeing your friends zanheltangia! When was the last time they saw you? Yay always feels good when people start noticing! Hugs to all! :D |
'Bout a year for one, probably 3-4 years for the other, and last year for the rest!
I just seem to keep moving further and further away from them, and I really need to swing back down there and catch up. I'd help if we were all on similar schedules though, 'cause we sure aren't! I just moved into the Master Bedroom of the house I am renting at with a pair of other roommates, and I have to say, having a bathroom to oneself is fantastic! Now I know what I was missing all these years of sharing, haha! What colors might those be, Ab? :D Just curious, ;). |
zan - oh your friends are totally gonna notice a difference if you haven't seen them in so long! it does take a while for our own eyes to catch up - funny, when I last lost 30 lb I couldn't see it in myself, but I sure can see that I put back on the 30.
As for paint colors - we have a chair rail in the dining room so we want to paint one color above and one below - we're thinking of a dark brown on bottom and a light blue on top. I like that combination. The LR is going to be a warm red... kind of a brick red, not primary, but a little orangey. We have no plans yet for the 2 bedrooms. At least, that's how we're thinking now... could change at any given moment :) bex - So yesterday was supposed to be my first real OP day, and it didn't turn out horribly. For some reason after dinner even though I was full I kept eating toast and peanut butter. I counted the points for it, and went 6 over my daily points. However, I did make myself restart the 30 Day Shred, which I haven't done since February - and man I'm right back where I started, feeling way out of shape! It did earn me some APs though so that helped counteract the -6 I ended the day with. Anyhow, it was a babystep in the right direction if not a picture of perfection. Today's a new day! |
Sounds like you made out alright, Ab. WPAs should help with that peanut butter toast too! Congrats on the Shredding. :dizzy:
Yeah, there's a room in the house I am renting at painted red. It has a sharp orange tint to it during parts of the day. I used to have that room, and I was starting to wish that the landlady had went with a more primary red, :p. Of course, I'm the crazy one who would go with a nice dark red more so than a warm red/orange color. I've got an oddly green room now. And she picked an weird brownish/tan color for the LR/Kitchen/bathrooms, and a strange yellow/tan for the other bedroom. Not really descriptive, but yeah, the colors just seem off to me. ;) You've just got to go with the colors that make you happy! :D, though I think she might have to tone it down quite a bit if she wants to sell the place like she was talking about. It could make a difference. |
I lost a pound yesterday. Super excited cos I was so sure I was going to have a gain.
Only a quick hi and hugs to all today. Need to get some essay done before I go out tonight. Gonna dance away all the calories! xx |
Hi everyone!
Just popping in to see what's up. I was super on-plan yesterday, bought some nice healthy food and took the time to prepare a dinner made of recipes I hadn't tried before (two from the WW website, veggie samosas which were excellent and spicy Italian chicken which was pretty good too). I always feel great about this new lifestyle when I do that! Congrats on the pound bex! Speaking of paint colours, my mom and stepdad built their last house and so got to choose what colour went in every room. They picked brown for the living room which the builder cautioned against but everyone who comes in loves it! There's so much light in there because of all the windows that it doesn't look dark at all, so I agree with zan, pick the colours that make you happy! I love brown and blue together as well abluvion. We probably won't be able to paint our new place because we're just renting it and we will both (hopefully) have full time jobs so probably won't have time anyway, but I am looking forward to a few years down the line when we've paid off our loans and can buy a house and do whatever we like with it! :) |
I lost .4 of a pound this week. It's kind of discouraging even though the tracker tells me that on average I've lost 2 pounds a week and that's a good thing. Must have read that article on slow weight loss three times already.
Last week I was trying incorporate other recipes from other places but portion sizing gets really difficult. I'm not really sure if I'm eating too much or eating too little. I've started taking classes at the gym now that it just opened after being closed for two weeks. Yesterday was a weight lifting class that kicked my butt. My plan for this week is to buy another food scale (left teh one i was using at my mother's house) and a measuring tape. I'm noticing a bit of a difference in the mirror so I guess tracking measurements will help me get more encouraged. Also to really keep track of portion size and try to keep my points as accurate as possible. |
Sounds like a great plan rayosun. A loss is still a loss - you're going in the right direction! :) Was the gym closed to put in new equipment or something? What other classes are you considering taking? My university offers spinning and pole dancing and yoga etc, but I have such a random schedule that changes week to week so I never felt that I could take advantage of them in case it meant I had to miss a class I'd paid for, or miss a class for my degree!
|
The gym closes when there are no classes. So it was closed after the spring semester and stayed that way until the summer semester started on monday. The gym is "free" (although I think everyone pays for it when paying for classes) which is good and there are so many classes that I probably won't get bored for a while. (a lot of them are in the evening and most of my classes this summer are in the morning so it fits well).
I took a hip hop aerobics class on monday (and learned I have no rhythm at all ;), weight lifting on tuesday. Today I wanted to try kickboxing but I think I might do the hip hop aerobics class again since it was at a good time and I want to get better at it before jumping into something new. Thursday is something called Dance Party but it was either that or Capoeira and from what little I know about the latter, I don't think I'm ready for that. EDIT: I had to go to the bathroom and I went and weighed myself again and now it says I've lost a pound. Hee, I'll take it. |
Congrats on your losses, Bex and Rayosun. :D
Got official WI tonight along with a few other things. Sounds like I am heading south Saturday to visit my best bud and a pair of old friends. I managed to get them into my guild in WoW, which basically means we should be able to chat more through computer headsets while playing online. So that's awesome. I mentally giggled when a friend called Brie Cheese a health alternative. To what? Maybe canned cheese, ;) Happy Wednesday all. |
Yesterday went better than Monday. Ate right on point, did day 2 of 30 day shred. I'm not necessarily committed to doing it for 30 days but it's easy to find 20 minutes amidst packing right now and I at least enjoy level 1. Felt like I did a lot of packing last night but there is still so much to go. One of my cats is kind of neurotic and chews off all his fur - it's getting worse with all the boxes around, I think he knows what's up. Lots of hairballs to clean up last night :barf: Walked to work this morning for the first time in a while (it's about a mile) too. Look at all this activity! :D
bex - congrats on the pound! hope you had fun out last night! free - wtg being OP! how do you make the samosas? Aren't samosas usually fried? I LOVE samosas but I am having trouble imagining how to make them at home. re: painting - we're renting too but the property manager gave us the go-ahead to paint. We just have to paint it back to white when we leave if the new tenants want it white. It's not often renters get to paint but they really wanted to rent to us so they made a bunch of concessions (including new carpet!). The place I'm in now had been painted different colors - yellow LR, purple BR, and seafoam green hall. Kinda weird. I want to choose colors and make the space MINE! The DR we want to have half brown has one wall of big windows, so I am thinking it won't come off too dark. The light blue on top will lighten it up some anyhow. zan - that is quite the variety of colors. So you find warm orangey red too orangey? I looked at our paint chip last night when I got home and it really reminds me more of a dusty brick color than orange... We'll see... I'm not sold on it but the BF loves it. Good luck at your WI, and have fun with your friends! rayosun - congrats on the near half pound! Don't be discouraged with .4. That is still a loss, better than a gain, and those fractions of a pound add up. Definitely do what you can to be more certain of your food intake, then you'll know if the food is slowing you down or not. Capoeira intimidates the crap outta me too, but it looks pretty neat. |
I made the filling for the samosas by boiling potatoes and carrots and mashing them together, then added some onions I'd softened with spray of extra virgin olive oil in a pan. Supposed to put in peas but I forgot! Then you put in spices (I used cumin, chili flakes) and herbs (fresh mint for me) and chill completely. Wrap the filling in filo pastry and bake in the oven. Filling and really warm inside, took me ages to eat them which I always like! Worked out to 2.5 points for two. :)
I am so worried that my boyfriend and I won't find a nice place for our budget. I don't want to commute too much if I can help it since I don't drive (here - I have a Canadian driver's license and I think I have to do some kind of course or something), so will have to rely on train and bus and that is so miserable when it's raining (and this is England so it rains often!). He seems fine living in student-style housing with stuff falling apart and landlords that don't care, but this year I've been in a nice, modern flat, with good heating and double glazed windows and I am NOT willing to go back to cheap housing. I really hope it doesn't cause a disagreement between us, but we've talked about it and he seems willing to accept my high standards, lol. :D Best of luck with the painting! |
Stressed cats are no fun (not that stressed anything really is), my Tig is more of a puker than a 'hairball' or shedding cat. I think it mostly has to do with her old age and sensitive stomach now though.
|
May I jump in? I'm doing WW Flex.
