Detox?

  • Does any one know of any natural detox treatments? I don't want one of those over the counter ones in the diet aisle, nor do I want one that has you going for a couple days. I just want a one day one that will make me feel better throughout. I've been drinking water and such, but I can't kick the sweet tooth I've had for a week or two now! I don't want to starve myself, I just want to get all of those icky feelings out!
  • My first NSV!
Whoops! I messed this post up bad. Haha. Anyway, Apple Cider Vinegar works as a detox that I love. I recently had some issues with my liver due to my BC Pill and had to come off it. I read up that Apple Cider vinegar helps detox the liver and digestive track. I miss about two cap-fulls into some green tea with lemon and enjoy this in the morning or at night. However, I LOVE sour tasting things so the taste of ACV never bothered me. It can be a little shocking at first but I love it now. It helps clean crud out of your system and is cheap. I use Bragg's Organic and I can find that anywhere (like at Market Basket) and such.
  • I love apple cider vinegar! i actually let cucumbers soak in it and just eat them like that!

This sounds AMAZING! I am so doing this. How long do you soak them?!
  • i had a pretty bad sweet tooth, however i did a two week cleansing diet that involved no sugar. wow, that changed a lot for me. its weird how we actually become addicted to sugar, i sure was. and its amazing how many things contain sugar, ever since then i haven't bought things that have added sugar.

but as for a cleansing that lasts one day I really don't know. but if sugar keeps getting you down you might want to consider trying to go a week or two without any, even making sure there is no added sugar in your foods, it could make you much more sensitive to sweetness.
  • Dr Schulze Superfood tastes awful, but its wonderful. Not a detox, its a vitamin supplement. I followed the raw diet lifestyle. Sugar cravings are the worse. I would allow myself raw honey with water..Being caffeine free is brutal.
  • Pinkalarmclock: I think that's my main issue. And because I'll have sugar, my stomach kills me constantly!

So all you did was just not eat sugar? Nothing else? What did you do if you had a HUGE craving?
  • I have to go with Pink.... cut out sugars and after the first week you should be set. But, I will say I use artificial sweetners which some people don't like. I go for Sugar Free, use Splenda and I when I buy things I buy them SF or try to keep the sugars to a minimum (meaning usually 2g or less, 5g or less depending on what it is).

BTW - Random side note: dressing for salads are really hard to find that are good. Fat free usually makes up for it by being high in sugar in order to make it taste "better" but I hate it. I found that Smart Balance makes a ranch dressing that I LOVE and it only has about 2g of sugars.

The first few days are going to be hard, I'm not going to lie, but once you're over the hump you'll really be surprised how much you DON'T crave sugar.

I agree -- skip processed, sugary food. Stick to whole foods as close to natural as possible. (Ex: Actual apple vs applesauce or apple juice). Protein at every meal.

More than anything, protein at every meal helps stabalize blood sugar so you can fend off the sugary cravings.

    A.
  • well my cleansing diet thing was no alcohol, caffeine, sugar, red meat, no grains, drank a lot of cranberry water (half cranberry juice unsweetened [Northland] half water), no processed foods. it was intense and i did it for more reasons than sugar, if all you want to do is eliminate your sugar tooth i suggest just going off the sugar.

and for huge cravings i suggest fruit or a fruit salad, even natural peanut with no added sugar helped me probably bc peanut butter reminds me off sweets even though its more savory, unsweetened jams, dried fruit too.
  • I think I should clear up that I really don't eat processed or sugary foods. My issue is candy, or I'll get a huge craving for chocolate or something. I don't eat sugary cereal, I use this sugar substitute called Truvia, I LOVE fruit and if I get applesauce, it's ALWAYS unsweetened. I hate the taste of sweetened applesauce.

Sugar isn't my whole issue, I can get away from it..I've done it before. I want this detox because I just feel like crap inside. My sweet tooth was just a side note..I just want something that will make my stomach stop being icky and just give me a clean start.

    DIET DETOX

A weekend cleanse helps flush out food additives and pesticides that can build up, and reduces inflammation. It also restores your alkaline- acid balance, making it easier to fight disease and stay energized, says Adina Niemerow, author of Super Cleanse (HarperCollins, 2008).

    DAY ONE

UPON RISING: Drink two glasses of warm water with lemon: Water helps eliminate waste and lemon makes the water more alkaline. (Brush your teeth afterward. Some dentists warn that the acid in lemons erodes tooth enamel.)

    8:00 A.M.
    BREAKFAST
Energize your morning with a liver-detoxifying green juice.
    2 heads romaine lettuce
    1 bunch kale
1 ½-inch piece of fresh ginger
    2 medium cucumbers
    1 lemon, juiced
    Purified water, as needed
Cut the first four ingredients into pieces and put into a juicer. Add lemon juice and enough water to make two 16- ounce servings. Stir and drink one serving. Save the rest.

    10:00 A.M.
    PREP BROTH FOR DINNER
Part of tonight’s dinner is a warming broth. To prepare it in advance, boil the following:
    2 cloves garlic
    1 1-inch piece of ginger
    2 yams
    1 onion
    2 stalks celery
    1 carrot
    1 tablespoon chopped parsley
1 medium-sized acorn squash, skinned and diced
    1 ½-inch strip of kombu
Cover with 10 cups of water and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, for 3 to 4 hours. Let cool. Strain and save the liquid for your broth and discard vegetables, except the squash. In a blender, mix the squash with some of the broth to create a liquid consistency, then add it back to the broth. Add salt to taste, and some cayenne, which increases circulation. Set aside to cool.

    10:15 A.M.
    SNACK
Drink the second serving of your green juice.

    NOON LUNCH
Eat a big, fiber-rich salad with spinach, sprouts, avocado, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Dress with cold-pressed olive oil, lemon juice, and salt.

    3:00 P.M.
    SNACK
If you’re hungry, eat 1 to 2 tablespoons of almonds. Drink tea that aids digestion like licorice, peppermint, or ginger.

    4:00 P.M.
    SIESTA
Take a nap or just relax in bed for at least an hour.

    6:00 P.M.
    DINNER
Eat a bowlful of warm broth, followed by a bowl of quinoa (a protein-packed grain) and a big salad of seasonal vegetables and avocado
    .

    DAY TWO
UPON RISING: Drink two glasses of warm water with lemon.

    8:00 A.M.
    BREAKFAST
Mix a smoothie in the blender with 2 cups of almond milk, 1 cup of berries of your choice, 1 teaspoon of flax oil, and 2 tablespoons of a green chlorophyll powder.

    NOON LUNCH
Fill your plate with steamed broccoli and onions to help clean your arteries, raw beets to purify your blood and strengthen your heart, and raw cabbage for better digestion and to add a satisfying crunch. Toss in some greens—romaine, spinach, or red leaf, and drizzle with olive oil and lemon.

    3:00 P.M.
    SNACK
Bust fatigue with a shot of wheatgrass (make it at home or buy it from your local juice bar) or a handful of Brazil nuts.

    4:00 P.M.
    REST HOUR
Pamper yourself with a Swedish massage or some restorative yoga. Or, write in your journal or meditate.

    6:00 P.M.
    DINNER
Pour yourself another bowl of the nutritious broth. This time add a side of brown rice and a fresh arugula or spinach salad with a piece of avocado.
