Can I ask, what's the new pill? I'm looking for a different BCP.

Back when I was younger (16-18) I was on orthotricyclen and it definitely made me gain weight..I always hated the way it made me feel when I took it so more often than not I wouldn't. (hence my first born lol)

Kariva. I didn't have problems with the Junel (generic Loestrin) other than the possible weight gain.

This is TMI for you ... I've been on Kariva since November and am actually experiencing a bit of spotting over the past few days which I've never had an issue with before. I just finished the 2nd week of this pack going into my 3rd week today. However, I had a really bad yeast infection a few weeks ago and wonder if that medication had anything to do with throwing it off?

The only OCP that has a known side effect of weight gain is Depo. Most OCPs used currently are low doses of estrogen and progesterone, so they don't have nearly as many side effects as those used in the 1980s, etc. However, chances of spotting do increase due to low dose hormones. On a personal note, I actually LOST 20 pounds on Yaz last year without trying or realizing it until my parents said something to me. Like any medication, though, it depends upon the person.

Most birth control pills DO list the side effect of edema, which ultimately IS weight gain, although in water. Not to be picky.

You are right though, many peer reviewed sciencific reviews conclude that modern birth control pills do not cause weight gain in fat.

I changed my bc about a year ago after being on my old pill for 7 years as I came to realize that I felt I was a terrible person about 3 out of every 4 weeks. I was confronted with one of my worst fears: Maybe PMS is not real and this is actually my personality! LoL
Changed to Yaz and feel like a normal person again. Which includes the fact that I had a problem binging out of boredom/distress/lonliness/any other sad emotion you could think of. Miraculously doesn't happen anymore!

Point is, birth control pills may not make you gain weight but the other emotional side effects might! Find the right one for you and you'll be fine.

Almost three years ago I tried the patch-I got a minor allergic reaction so I went on the pill. I hated that time of my life..I gained 20lbs, was super moody, and had no sex drive. But everyone is different. I felt so much better once I stopped taking the pill.

I lose 50 pounds no problem on my bill. Marvelon for anyone wondering. And then I stalled and couldn't seem to lose weight. My doctor said there was no way it was from my pill. But after losing nothing for a couple years I went off for 2-3 months, I didn't see any huge changes in my weight loss so I went back on it.

So I dunno, sometimes I think maybe - but it didn't seem to matter when I went off it. And really, don't want a baby right now - so no point worrying about that too.
