I think everyone here has given you great advice but I just have to wonder - if she couldn't lose weight the old fashioned way - do you really think she will stick to the 500 calories a day?

I had a [skinny] co-worker that liked to do that cleanse with the maple syrup, pepper and lemon juice or whatever. It used to make me so angry and we weren't even friends. I dunno why it bothered me so much, but it did. So I know how you feel. I remember I tried to tell her it wasn't healthy, but she didn't care because she believed it was.

Wow thanks for all the responses.

Mandalinn- yes it is an HCG plan.

I know it doesn't really sound like a friendly competition but it really is. If she were losing the right way and started winning I would be more than thrilled for her. I feel kind of bad that my first reaction was very selfish but she has done this diet before (actually with my other friend that's in the competition with us and they both gained all the weight back) so there's no talking her out of it.

When I told my other friend (there are three of us in this competition) she got more mad than I did and dropped out. She said there's no point in staying in when we obviously won't win. I should point out that the money here isn't the main reason for the competition (we decided the two people who lost the least each week would pay $5 for a total of $200 at the end of the 20 weeks), it was more of a motivator to keep going and since the competition ends on Memorial Day the winner was going to take the money and buy themselves a new bathing suit. I think we all thought we wouldn't do it unless there was some kind of reward in the end.

However, the longer we did this the more I realized I just like having the real life accountability ya know? So, we decided to keep going with the competition but everyone will keep their money and it will just be for fun. This is probably how it shouldve been in the beginning but better late than never right?

I'm just going to support my friend like I always have and I really hope she keeps it off this time. She knows what she needs to do, it's just a matter of her actually doing it for longer than a couple weeks. But, I really appreciate everyone listening to my mini rant!
