Default frustrating shopping experience

Yesterday my dad and I went shopping so I could get shorts for our family vacation next week. Because I've lost 40 lbs since last year, my old shorts don't fit anymore. I can wear them, but they're very loose and look huge, plus I have lots of little cousins that enjoy pulling them off. I know belts keep them up, but still they don't look or feel good. We went to three different stores and I could not find a single pair of shorts under 50 bucks that looked good on me. I've lost a lot of weight from my waist, a bit from my hips, but none from my thighs. I'm a big bermuda short fan, but everything that fit my waist or hips was way too tight in the thighs. The shorts that actually fit RIGHT on my waist, I could barely get over my butt. Needless to say, I was quite depressed when I got home and spent the rest of the day watching Ghost Hunters (hehe I love that show). I have no idea where to go to get good fitting shorts. Does anyone else have this problem, or have any suggestions?

I got some great shorts at J.Crew this spring that fit amazing. I've never worn shorts because my thighs were always too big and these really look and feel great. I got them on sale for $20 each, so I bought every color. They are made of cotton and linen so the stretch out around my thighs but the waist still fits great. Check them out!

I have a lot of Bermuda shorts from NY&Co. They go right above my knee and I've never had any "thigh issues" and I've always had big thighs. They're also NOT $50.

I don't have any suggestions, and I have the opposite problem (skinny skinny legs, big waist) but I can definitely commiserate on the sizing issues. Good luck!

I find I have this problem with a lot of bottoms now that apparently drawstrings are purely decorative these days. I'll find a skirt that fits my but but hangs of my waist but the ties in the front do actually do anything!!

You can buy the pair that fits your behind and thighs and have darts put in the waist. If you don't know anyone who can sew, take them to someone who does alterations. It's not too awful expensive. My mom does mine but I know not everyone knows someone who can/will alter clothes for them. I've taken my last couple pairs of pants to a guy near my house (very old Italian man) who charges me $16 to hem them. I think darts would be about the same. It sucks you have to pay more but they WILL fit you and look nice.

i have the exact same problem. i carry most of my weight in my hips/thighs and i have to get my jeans taken in in the waist. it costs me about $13 to $15 depending on how much needs to be taken in. i have not worn shorts in a while but i do have a very cute pair of bermudas i got at old navy. i was about 15 lbs lighter when i bought them so i cannot fit into them yet, but i have always had this body type and i remember they fit perfectly so maybe try there. sorry i can't be more help, i know its so frustrating but just keep looking and hopefully you can find a great pair of shorts at a decent price that can be taken in, or even better some that won't even have to be altered at all!

It's amazing, isn't it, how we can lose a bunch of weight but it's not necessarily proportional! I thought if I could just lose 20 or 30 lbs, I'd like clothes shopping, but my body looks the exact same to me as it did when I was heavier. When I do find a brand that works (for me, it's Levi's) I go online and see which stores carry the brand and I figure out who usually has the best sales. (For example, Kohl's, Penney's, Belk, Dillard's, in order of sale frequency, lol).
