I went to hear a speaker today, this dietitian comes to our school once a month to do talks, shes' always good. Today we learned 15 ways to eat better. I thought I'd post them for you, some was repeats, but others very helpful!
1. Use the smallest plate possible
2. Don't expose yourself to excess; buffets
3. Switch to whole grains - should have at least 2 grams of fiber per serving
4. Give your flour more power! - do 1/2 whole wheat + 1/2 white
5. Go vegetarian one night a week
6. Don't use the salt shaker
7. Eat fish every Friday
8. Green up your lettuce; spinach, romaine, red-leafe, kale...
9. Eat Breakfast!
10. Eat fruit instead of drinking juice
11. Slow down - takes 20 min. to digest, so just wait it out.
12. Top cereals with berries - berries = antioxidants (especially cran, blue, and black)
13. Put away TV trays
14. Sneak veggies into dishes
15. Put meat on a diet - choose lean cuts, trim fat, more chicken, turkey, fish, lean pork
We got tons of info on each number, if you want more I'll elaborate!
Awesome! I've stuck to most of these for a while now, but esp the salt! I actually have to hide the salt, because the only reason I use it is for baking or salting water to boil pasta in. Otherwise, my fiance would drown his food in salt! Great tips though!
Thanks for the tips!!! I've heard some of these before, but I should really work on a couple more! I.e. The lettuce, and fish on fridays. I love lettuce alternates but never think to use them! Fish I'm not so fond of, but I know I need my Omega 3s!!
whiskeygirl, since you don't like fish sprinkle some golden flaxseed (freshly ground) into your oatmeal, peanut butter or homemade muffins or whatever..tons of Omega 3's
