My BMI is about 24 - just a shade into "healthy"

I'm 5'6 and 145 pounds but wear a size 8-10 Australian (which is about 4-6 US) and have a waist 25" w/hips at 38" - I have a lot of muscle on this here frame and it skews my BMI.

I go by body fat percentage as a more accurate measure of where I am at rather than the scale and BMI charts.

See my husband in my picture? He was "obese" at the time that was taken (or possibly 5 pounds below it)... and wearing size 32 or 34 pants.

My high school gym teacher was "obese" by the BMI charts, but she had hardly any fat on her, she just had a lot of muscle.

I think we're generally good at figuring out how much weight looks/feels right on our bodies, and what percentage of it should be fat. That's why it's so difficult sometimes to pick a goal weight -- you may not know until you see/feel it.

I want to get the Wii and the Wii Fit.... but at 285 pounds, won't I break that little pad you stand on??

We played Wii sports before the superbowl with my family and I loved it, really got us moving... but I've never used the Wii Fit...

The Wii Fit board will support up to 300 lbs. It's loads of fun. If you are pretty active already, you might not get as much out of it.

NYCT1981 - Thanks! It took me quite some time to stop worrying about the size of my hips and realise hey...if my hips are wide they make my waist look even smaller!

I like being a pear lol.

BMI is a simple test, but the wii just works off the BMI scale it has nothing to do with Japanese teenagers.
I was being facetious.

I am the same weight/height as you and I hate that obese label, I don't feel like I fit that category either, but what can you expect from such a generalized measurement? However, at the same time, I do find it comforting to know that it's only 10 little pounds to be downgraded to just "overweight" so that's where my sights are set right now. Good luck!

redlight - lol - hence my readjustment of a warped mindset! It's funny what we fixate on.

I had an annoying episode the other day with trying on jeans.

They DO NOT design jeans for women who like to run and have muscles in their thighs lol.

Or for girls whose hips are a size larger than their waist!

When I put them back on the shelf the women in the store asked what was wrong with them and if I was looking for something in particular. I just replied jeans aren't designed for runners legs. She gave a rueful laugh and agreed.

Sucks though...they were nice.

On a positive note though I did buy a dress for a wedding I'm going to and it shows off everything I love most about my body. Great toned legs, arms, shoulders and back!

I think BMI is a total joke... Whoever came up with BMI is stupid. Your height cannot determine how much you should weigh. Everyone is different - how can you put a standard on people. Well you're this tall so you can only weigh between this and this. Doesn't make much sense to me!!!

I think BMI is stupid as well. I mean its a proven fact that muscle weights more than fat, and bone weight is another factor in it all.

I mean a persons body isn't made of all fat!

and on the hip note, I do have wide hips and I LOVE them. I think the curves make me look more, i don't know, like a woman! That's just how I feel. I love my wide curvy hips. just me.
