This is probably one of those questions that's been asked like a zillion times, but...
Are you supposed to eat before you workout or after?
Like I work out once I get home but the last meal I ate was lunch, so I usually work out on an empty or semi empty stomach. But when I workout after I eat (2 hours or so later) I get sick and can't keep the food down. I sometimes eat crackers when I'm on the treadmill so I don't get that hunger dizzy. Ok, that sounded horrible. LOL! And I never eat before I do morning work outs. I think my sis was the one that said that working out on an empty stomach was bad, but I can't remember.
I usually work out and hour or so after lunch. I also read its not good to workout on an empty tummy. I know for myself I cant because I get really dizzy and my stomach rebels!
Ok, maybe I'm weird. I work out normally when I get home around 5. I'll have a small snack around 3, but if I eat any closer to when I work out, it'll make me sick since my workouts are really intense.
On the weekends, most of the time I'll workout when I get up before I eat anything. It helps me to do it that way, but I don't know how good it is for me.
I can't have like ANY food in my tummy when I work out or I feel miserable, heavy, like Ima toss my cookies. I also don't drink water while doing cardio for the same reasons. That having been said, I hydrate before and after as well as eating my large meal right after I work out.
i work out before i eat BUT i have to have breakfast in the morning that being said i eat an apple or peanut butter or something 30 minutes before a work out and then eat an hour after.
I work out an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening and have to eat before either workout. I usually give myself an hour between meal and workout and it works well for me. Especially since I started eating clean, I have boundless energy and my workouts are so much more effective/efficient.
I usually do my strength training during the day...about two hours after lunch while my kids are watching their hour of TV a day and eating their afternoon snack. I do my cardio at around 8:30-9:00 pm...3 hours after dinner and after I've put my kids to bed.
Since I run my private foundation from home, I have some flexibility with my hours.
I do the treadmill for 30 minutes when I first wake up with Nothing in my belly. If I had to eat, that would be it! Sometimes i have to sleep in what i am going to wear on the treadmill just so I do it
Shannon - what a good idea, I've though about this before. Sleeping in my gym clothes to get me going in the morning!
I usually have a kashi Granola bar before I fun, and I drink energy water, like the energize crystal light packets - of the energy orange flavored water from aquafina (I think) it's the Alive line of waters. They just add extra caffine to the water, so I can prolong my work outs - That usually works for me, keeps me going!
i usually work out on a semi empty stomach--- where i'm not hungry but i havent just eaten either--- i dont drink anything while working out either---but i'll drink water before i start and then as soon as i'm done or if i get interrupted with my workout like a phone call or a crying baby to attend to ---i'll get a drink then---
I get up at 5am and I'm starting my workout by 5:20. I sometimes have a little green smoothie or some easy down fruit. I run or do yoga, and I need a mostly empty stomach for both.
I either work out around 4, after a 11ish lunch, or I go after dinner around 9, this time only three hours or so after dinner. I don't really notice a difference in going closer to eating or later in the day. It's pretty equal.
