Chocolate! (joking)
I'm very partial to nice booklets. And I like books and reading. A cooking book? Candles? A CD? Something boring you still need, for example a water cooker, or a vacuum cleaner, or a wash rack? Lingerie? Plants?
I always ask to go do something with my boyfriend. For example, for Christmas I told him I wanted to go to the beach with him for the weekend. For my birthday I want him to take me to the sand dunes to ride the four wheelers! Fun! Oh and for his birthday I took him up to Mt. Hood and I paid for the all day fun pass for us both and we did the zip line, timberline slide, etc. It's so much more fun than asking for something you really don't need.
my hubby and I want to take cooking classes together--healthy cooking of course--could be an idea?--what about a nice photo session alone or with him too?
Definitely use your birthday as a way to give back, expecially this time of the year. Volunteer at a food pantry, or homeless shelter. There are also tons of org's out there that also have lists of children and elderly who will be neglected at Christmas. You can sponsor someone and spend an afternoon with your boyfriend buying some much needed things for someone in need. That sounds like a very special birthday to me.
If you can't think of anything you really need then you should your gift to help someone else. I also like the idea of going somewhere with your sweety. I know for Christmas I told my boyfriend that I wanted him to take me to Boston. I love love love Boston and don't get to go there a lot so Christmas is a perfect time to ask for a Boston vaca
