I was on the Nuva-Ring for a couple of years, and I loved it for the most part (no noticeable side effects, and I was fat when I started it. I don't think the wait I gained since then can be attributed to the ring, more likely the medium pizzas I used to eat for lunch, daily)
I have changed to Alesse this week, because my health insurance will only cover the ring at $50/month, which at this point is too pricy for me, as the BC is just regulating my hormones. We'll see how things go, but so far, everything's been the same as before.

so I switched to a hormonal IUD. It's blissfull. The insertion was not exactly nice - I very nearly fainted and had to ask a friend to walk me home because the nurse didn't want to let me go. I was sick for an afternoon but after that it was over. I hardly have periods and no cramps. The hormones of a hormonal IUD are supposed only to work locally - as opposed to BC pills, which bring them into your bloodstream. But I never had problems with BC pills either. I know some people that weren't too happy with IUD's though. One kept having horrible cramps, and another reacted bad to the hormones. The only way to find out is to try it.
