Wink BIG step for me

As of today, I decided to give up coffee.
Reason being, I drink 2 creams in my coffee - and as we all know, cream is fattening.
I hate milk in my coffee, I only enjoy cream, and if I can't have cream I would rather just not drink it.
I'm switching to tea, which I don't mind milk in.
Wish me luck! Last week I went 1 day without coffee from Tim Horton's and I had the worst headache known to man - WITHDRAWLS! from the lack of caffiene I'm assuming.
I'm a little worried, but my friend says tea contains more caffiene than coffee. Any truth to that?

I don't know about caffeine levels.... but good for you for giving something up! I personally have never liked or drank anything with caffeine in it regularly. I don't like pop, tea, or coffee of any sorts. But, eventually your body will reward you. Good for you!

yay! some teas are caffeine free! Some, have a lot. Just read the labels... yeah, you'll go through withdrawls and headache, but they'll go away.

A lot of teas do indeed contain more caffeine than coffee. Tho, garstar's right, you can get them caffeine-free if you're interested in weaning yourself off caffeine in general.

Hmmm. Your best bet if you don't care about the averse affects of caffeine in your system (I've heard it has those??? ) and you DO want to keep drinking coffee... (maybe you don't?) but just can't do it without the fattening cream... is to redefine your tastes.

What the **** is she talking about now!?!?

I've always totally been a cream and sugar kinda gal in my Tim's, double double at least... but I knew it wasn't good for me, and milk in my coffee wasn't as good, so.. I shocked my tastebuds, lol. I gave up the sugar and the cream, and for a week straight, I drank my coffee black. At first, it was bitter, and hot, and I wasn't used to it at all. However, by the time mid-week rolled around, it really wasn't that bad. By the end of the week, I took a sip of someone's coffee with sugar in it, and was REVULSED by how sweet it was!! Then I tried my coffee with some milk, and half a packet of sweetener... and I love it like that now!

All I now is that as coffee has caffeine, tea has "teina" (in spanish) similar to caffeine but stronger, but be careful cause teina makes your teeth get all these brown stains. (sorry but i don´t know how to say that in a better way).
People think only cigarrettes, coffee and coke makes your teeth turn darker but the worst is tea!!! (yeah, my mom is a dentist and i have whitened my teeth 2 times)

I am so mean to my teeth and people still say I my teeth look really white. I drink black coffee, I smoke when I drink, I love really strong brewed tea and I forget to brush my teeth at night at least 3 times a week. I'm gross, but my smile is pretty!

Back to the subject. I used to only like coffee with tons of creme and sugar but I never drank it because I was too lazy to mix it all up. So I just started drinking it black (like Jellbb) and now its not too bad. Except for that cheap diner crap. I did the same thing when I was switching from sprite to diet, I thought it was AWEFUL but after a few weeks I couldn't drink regular sprite.

eek - please, oh please don't get complacent about your smile. I used to think all those things too - I smoked, drank coffee, forgot to brush on weekends.....Now I don't have such a pretty smile - my teeth look a little (well, maybe a lot) like those joke teeth people wear for a laugh. I'm holding out for implants but I'm still going to have a mouth full of fake teeth. Please don't take them for granted just because you're getting away with ignoring them now

One of my old coworkers used to drink coffee like noone I had ever seen. Then one day, he decided to give it up, too. None of us thought he could do it (secretly... to his face we totally encouraged him), but like you, he replaced his coffee with tea for the caffeine. It seemed to work for him, but it was slightly comical how often you would see him in the break room making tea.

Best of luck with this. I don't have the strength of character to give up coffee. I'm a Starbucker myself (we don't have the luxury of Tim Horton's down here in the States), and my drink is the Venti Doubleshot on ice with soy: 5 shots of espresso, some classic syrup and soy milk. Mmmmmmmmmm. I could really go for one right now.

Let us know how it goes. =D

Hey. luvja -- I'm switching to decaf this week. I used to drink a lot of coffee (by "used to" I mean two days ago).

I had gotten used to drinking coffee w/NFPM and splenda added, so the calories weren't the problem for me. I decided to cut way down on caffeine because it raises cortisol levels (which are linked to abdominal fat and I have a disproportionately large stomach).

I switched to tea for two days. I had headaches, but just the first day.

Yesterday I bought some decaf coffee, which I am drinking right now. I will probably also switch to herbal and decaf teas. I don't know if this will end up helping to change my proportions, but time will tell.

Good luck going cold turkey on the coffee! I hope this big step helps you reach your goal!
