20 something C25K

Ok folk..those checking in every week on their C25K journey should do so here.
Give a brief discription on what you are aiming to achieve by the end of the 9 weeks.

Please post your dates as well as where you are in the programme, then come back and edit and update it as you progress.
Eg: 14/07/08 Wk1-Day1

On your marks....get set.....Gooooooooooooo :running:

JulieRN 07-14-2008 08:26 PM

Here's my C25K Post!

Mon. 7/14- W1D1: It went well! My legs are tired from hiking all weekend, but it kind of feels good! Good luck to everyone!

BernerDoc 07-15-2008 11:19 AM

I finished C25K in May, did two 5Ks in June and due to training and a stupid work mishap now have lateral collateral ligament tears and a stress fracture. *sigh* I'll be starting the program over sometime this fall...I can actually say I MISS running when just a few months ago I couldn't run 90 seconds to save my life. C25K is awesome, I recommend it to everyone that mentions wanting to start running.

Matilda08 07-15-2008 11:55 AM

I started yesterday! I am on my first week of the nine week program.
60sec jog
90 sec walk alternating for 20mins

It felt great and I wasnt tired but I have been speed walking for the past three months and I think that was a big help!!!! Lots of luck to you all lets keep it going......

irishkatt 07-15-2008 01:20 PM

Woo...well done everyone..lets keep it going now that the hardest part of getting started is done.
I had planned on doing the C25K but a friend of mine who runs though I was fit enough to just run so took me out the other day and I managed 1.5mls, and yesterday I managed 3...it wasnt pretty but I did it. I am planing on alternating running and walking and building up to 6 miles in the next 9 weeks so will report in here too as the accountability is great.

14/07/08 3 miles

Fat Chick B Gone 07-15-2008 07:11 PM

Hey girls! How's everyone doing? I completed week 6 day 1 yesterday and bumped up my speed a bit! Tomorrow's has me a bit nervous but I can do it!

girl anachronism 07-15-2008 07:30 PM

I just wanted to say how awesome C25K is. It's one of the best things I've ever done for myself. I finished in April and it was such a huge accomplishment. And I still run!

Congrats on starting, everyone! Keep it up!

Matilda08 07-16-2008 09:19 AM

I am still hanging in there guys yesterday I completed day two of week one! I feel so refreshed after doing those runs.!!!! Keep up the good work guys.

Today I will be on my third day!!!!

irishkatt 07-16-2008 11:52 AM

Matilda..wow, have you done days 1,2 and 3 in a row...thats hard core. I find it best if I take a day of recovery inbetween as my muscles need time to adjust, or at least to do somethig different, so I alternate running days with strenght days and a day off. Recovery and strenght training are as important as cardio as the more muscle we have the more fat we burn and your muscles need time off to adjust and grow....the girls over in exercise and weightlifting ahve lots of good advice on this, its worth checking out. Keep up the good work.
K

Matilda08 07-16-2008 01:26 PM

Yes I have only because I work out Monday thru Friday for about 45mins during my lunch brake. The jog is only twenty minutes of walking and jogging and before this week I was speed walking mon-fri so my body is already use to these types of workouts to a certain degree after the twenty minutes I do mind strenght training and a lot of stretching. Followed by a 10min cool down walk. My co worker is out this week so I kinda changed my plan up a bit in her absence our walk jog day would normally be mon wed and fri.

I dont think I am doing to much because this jog is only 20mins which isnt much compared to my usually routine because I also workout after work as well. I will check it out though.

Willow324 07-16-2008 01:36 PM

Im sorry what is C25K? I would love to become a jogger...

C25K is Couch to 5 K.. It's a 9-week program...Check out www.coolrunning.com. You do it 3 times a week...Each week has different workout. For example, week one, you do Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Week two, you do Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 90 seconds of jogging and two minutes of walking for a total of 20 minutes... and so on. The schedule is on the website.

Also, Robert Ullrey's podcast is a great podcast for the running because it's got music, it tells you when to walk and when to run.

It's a great way to get cardio in. :)

Willow324 07-16-2008 01:59 PM

great!!!!!! thanks, can't wait to start

Matilda08 07-17-2008 04:55 PM

Matilda08 07-19-2008 07:09 AM

Today I woke up early in the morning and did the walk jog routine for about 30mins and it was so refreshing......Keep up the good work guys

Amarie2pt0 07-21-2008 12:20 PM

Just bumping the thread to the main page - is everyone still going strong? I updated my original post... FINALLY got started!

Matilda08 07-22-2008 03:33 PM

Hello everyone today I started week two day one I am hanging in there.

I was wondering if anyone of you have done this program before for the nine weeks and if so how much weight did you lose in that time. This is just a pure curiousity question...LOL

vixjean 07-22-2008 09:33 PM

HI ALL: I had to take 2 weeks off due to a foot injury, I will gladly post my C25K stuff here as well.
JULY 21: C25K week 3 day 1

flabbyblue 07-23-2008 08:34 AM

DH and I are going to do C25k, but in order to adjust to waking up even earlier (and make sure we stick with it), we're doing a "Week 0" of 30 minutes of just walking.

We intended to start on Monday, but storms around here have been fierce! So I have been waking up early alone to play on my elliptical. Today was the first day of really getting outside with the man and moving.

Tons of fun :) We both grooved around to our music as we walked, bumping hips on occasion and joking around. 65 degrees out this morning, gorgeous! If every morning is like this, then I can't wait :)

Fat Chick B Gone 07-23-2008 09:04 AM

Eek! I haven't run in a week! I'm going today and going to see what I can do. Fighting a bit of travel induced ick but need to get my body moving! I'll post what I manage to do later on.

bjeweled 07-23-2008 12:58 PM

the month is almost overr but i plan to start this for my morning cardio workouts. i'll jeep you all posted

Miaka 07-23-2008 10:15 PM

This is my second time doing C25K, it works! I was injured approaching 10K. Now I feel that my knees have recovered enough after gaining 35lbs. I am on WK2 - Day 1.

JulieRN 07-23-2008 10:28 PM

Hi everyone!

After a crazy number of 12 hour night shifts with little sleep inbetween, I now have off wed night through sat night... Now it's time to run!

Matilda08 07-25-2008 10:53 AM

Hello all! I am not doing to good past couple of days....ugh!!! TOM and for the past two days I havent done much I have been eating right for the most part but no workouts today I am going to push myself to take a jog maybe I will feel better but I have cramps and i feel drained! Hope everyone is doing well

lilukay 07-28-2008 12:50 PM

Bumping this up to the first page!

I started today and really enjoyed it. So, I'm on W1D1. Tomorrow I will take a break to let those muscles recover, and then it's back to the gym Wednesday! The podcast is brilliant, I don't think I would have made it to the end without it.

Keep up the good work, how is everyone doing?

Matilda08 07-29-2008 09:14 AM

I have been under the weather for the past couple of days but today I am back at it! I hope everyone is having great runs!

Miaka 07-29-2008 10:08 AM

I've been having a great time with the C25K. Always looking forward to the next exercise. I am on Week 3 and just finished day 1.

Fat Chick B Gone 07-29-2008 10:13 AM

Hey girls, I haven't run in a while. My left knee has been acting up a bit and I choose not to stress it! I've been doing swimming, yoga, elliptical, and bike instead! I hope to run this weekend for the Midsummer 5k though!

bjeweled 07-29-2008 12:17 PM

hi guys!
i know july is pretty much over but i did a brisk walk today and will begin w1d1 tomorrow! wish me luck! hope you all are finding success with it:hug:

Miaka 07-30-2008 11:05 AM

Just finished Week 3 Day 2. My leg is feeling a little bit of stress. I am cutting back on my daily walk to let them rest between runs.

lilukay 07-30-2008 11:09 AM

I finished W1D2 today, and man am I sore! I can't remember the last time I ran before starting this, so my legs are going to have to take some time to adjust.

Matilda08 07-30-2008 02:39 PM

I finished week three day two today I am so happy I feel great!!!!!

Anyone do this before if so how were your results after the nine weeks and how much did you lose?

lilukay 07-30-2008 10:54 PM

What does everyone do on their off days? I'm so very sore the day after running, but I feel like I should be doing something. I haven't started strength training yet, mostly because I don't really know how.

vixjean 07-30-2008 11:05 PM

Hi All, W3 again, 2nd time this week, boy those 3 minute runs are rough, especially the 2nd one. How long does it take you guys to finish one session?

taragettingthin 07-30-2008 11:47 PM

My week 4 D1 yesterday worked its wonders on my legs, I think, because I was feeling it...:P but I made sure to walk around rather than just sitting down when I was done... I think doing WATP also helped because I didn't have any pain today. I remember W2D1...and my calves hurt like crazy for about a week and it was almost impossible to do even other exercise. Not anymore...and I'm glad I made through W3, I stopped at W2 the first time I tried it.

lilukay, I just started increasing my Cardio...so on my off days, I do WATP to make sure I get at least 5-6 days of cardio per week. I also do Pilates sometimes... I do TransFirmation 4 days a week (the system comes with 4 DVDs) and try to do 30 Day Shred 3 days a week. I do WATP on M, W, F..and C25K on T, T, and S. Sometimes I do elliptical instead of WATP or C25K...
