Weekly Chat Dec 3 - Dec 9

Good Morning Ladies and Happy December!

WOW I can’t believe it is December already. Have you ever had one of those moments when you realize how fast your life is moving. Well I finished my marathon final last night. (That would be the 48 hour take home exam). I’m still not sure on it. The first problem was hard but fair, the second problem I think was slightly unfair because I believe the professor made a typo with one of the numbers which created an extremely difficult argument. Anyways it’s anonymous grading so I can’t say anything to him but I made sure I very explicitly stated all of my numbers and math so that he can’t mark me down for proceeding under his numbers even if they are mistaken. So that was the entirety of my weekend (seiourly I talked to no one all weekend and just sat in my apartment). It is funny the only thing I wanted to do when I finished was exercise which I can’t do because I think I have a hernia. I keep having to remind myself I can’t do this because I want to actually make it thought finals. Don’t worry I’m going to go get it checked out after finals.

How was everyone elses weekend. Hopefully you all had more fun then me!

sxulcmnky 12-03-2007 10:02 AM

remember -

where did you get your avatar?

and no i can't believe it's already december... crazy how time gets away from you

OptimistK 12-03-2007 11:33 AM

I fit into my first pair of 16's today!!! Yipeeeeee!!!

suitejudyblueeyes 12-03-2007 11:54 AM

RememberHTS - wow, that exam sounds like a killer. I always liked my essay exams because you could pretty much argue yourself out of anything :) Hope that hernia turns out to be nothing! You'll be back to exercising soon!

Kim Renee - WTG!!! Congrats!!! That's AWESOME! :) :)

I finally saw the scale move in the right direction today! It's only 2 lbs but 2 lbs is the start of the next, oh, 70 lbs I should lose. I'm excited, anyway! After so long of seeing the damn scale show higher and higher numbers...

I'm working from home today, so I'm having to control my snack cravings... When I'm in the office it's easy cos I just don't have tons of food with me, but here at home the kitchen is just a step away.... I have a healthy bean soup cooking for lunch today, and tonight will be equally healthful. I just have to figure out what it is :)

Have a good day everybody!

HappyMomma05 12-03-2007 01:11 PM

Whoo! I'm back! I got my desktop back today and I feel normal again. I started my weight loss trek again today. I'm back up to 185 now. OMG I've been so horrible. I think this time it will happen for sure though.

Today has been so strange. Getting my computer back has kind weird because it's been gone for a month now. I also found out this morning that my hubby will be leaving in March for Iraq. Yea, I'm sad but I know he's coming back. He will go to NJ for 4-6 mos, have off for 2 weeks and then go overseas for 12-18 mos. I knew he was part of the national guard when I married him but I guess I never really thought he would actually have to go anywhere. I'm hoping that while he's gone that I will get the house fixed up inside and also lose all of my extra weight. That way when he gets home we can plan for another baby. We will see.

I saw something today that I'm curious about. The Pink Patch. I've never heard of it until now and it seems weird to me that a patch would work. Has anyone tried it or known someone who tried it? I've got hoodia that I'm trying to remember to take right now but I'm thinking about trying it when I'm done with the bottles of hoodia that I have.

Remember: Yea it sooo doesn't seem like it should be December yet! I was thinking that last night actually.

Kim: YAY!! I love dropping a size!!!!!! That is so awesome! Keep it up! You'll be an 8 before you know it!

suitejudy: Hey, 2 lbs is 2 lbs!!! I'd count it! I know how you feel though. I've been going back up recently. It stops today thought!

Everyone have a great day!

mrsgeb2 12-03-2007 01:19 PM

Good Afternoon Ladies!!!

My weekend was pretty boring! I worked all weekend and didn't get much else done.

Go Kim!!!!

Here's to a good week!!

OptimistK 12-03-2007 03:00 PM

Judy - 2 lb.s is HUGE. Any pound lost in my book is an achievement. At least it's not 2 lbs. gained :carrot:!

HappyMomma - I have a cousin that recently got married and her husband was in the national guard and she too, thought he'd never have go anywhere. When he comes back, and you've reached your goal, what a treat it'll be for the both of you! Oh, and an 8 would be AWESOME!!!

Jana - Thank you! Love the new avatar btw!

Have a good Monday ladies!!!

Cats tongue 12-03-2007 05:46 PM

Hello everyone on this lovely fall monday afternoon!

So I had a nutso weekend. I went to the opening performance for the Spice Girls Reunion tour. It was a fantastic blast! But I got barely any sleep this weekend, and my eating feels all out of whack so... ugh. I am exhausted and I have some homework to get done before tomorrow, and all I really want to do is go to sleep again.

Kim - 16? that's awesome!!! Congrats on the size down. And you will be that size 8 before you know it.

suitejudy - 2lbs is an awesome loss! It's what's recommended for healthy long term weight loss even. Good job!!!

Happymomma - That's too bad about your hubby. :( But I bet it would be amazing to surprise him with a skinnier you when he gets back. :)
Also what is this Pink Patch? Something to help with cravings or something? Weird. I wouldn't trust it.

lottie63 12-03-2007 06:06 PM

'ello everyone! Good on all of you with victories, be it dropping a size or loosing a few lbs! It's all good work. :)

I agree about december coming around so quickly. It's insane, it seems the older you get the faster the years fly by, I'll be 28 on wed! MUST get this weight off before I find myself in my 30's. Hopefully next year, a year or two early! :D

My nsv is that I went from a 26 to a 24. Can't wait to get to a 22 cuz (I remember from when I lost 70 lbs BEFORE) after size 22, after loosing that certain amount of weight, that you get in a groove and it all becomes so much easier and the lbs just seem to melt off.

I don't weigh myself really. I go by nsv only for the most part. I mean, I get weighed at the doc, but that isn't until about late january. I'd much rather see one big CHUNK of weight loss than 2 lbs here and there, and have to deal with the natural 2 lb daily fluctuations. AUGH, who else here hates water weight?!!?

RememberHowToSmile 12-03-2007 09:32 PM

I spent my day at the library. More studying. It seems like I never get a brake. Ah well a little more then a week and it will be over for a few weeks. My exam turned out as well as I could expect. It was hard.

Sally - Its funny you asked because I generally get that question once a month. Here are the instructions: I made mine at http://prevention.mvm.com/rodale_ctx/jsp/sim.jsp
There is also http://www.mvm.com/en/index.htm which you can make them at.
To turn the virtual model into an avatar all you do is right click and save as target. Then I opened the file in paint and cut and past to put the three together. The first one is my starting weight, the second one is my current weight, and the last one is my goal.

Kim – Good job on fitting into 16s!!!

Judy – Um yeah I’m pretty it is a hernia it’s been around for a month constant and well it was off and on before there. Ah well what can you do.

Happymama – Woo Hoo I’m lost without my computer too. I’m sorry to hear about your husband.

lovinlifex2 12-03-2007 09:36 PM

Howdy all..

I hope that everyone had a great weekend. I got some more Christmas shopping done, but other than that not much to do. The scale was -4 lbs this week so I am guessing that the gain I had last week must have been some water weight, but I will take it.

remember - good job on getting your final exam completed. I bet you rocked it!

kim - 16's that is awesome...great job!

suitejudy - great job on the 2 lbs!

happymomma - sorry to hear about your hubby, but you will knock his socks off when he gets back and you smokin.

jana - I hated it when I had to work weekends...it seemed to throw off my whole week.

catstongue - I used to love the Spice Girls...I bet it was a blast.

lottie63 - what a great nsv...congrats on the 24's!

I am off to put kidos to bed. I hope that everyone has a great evening.

thanks :D

ps: i lost .4lbs this week. i think i need to change my weigh in day because i'm lighter on thursdays... i don't count calories too much during the weekend, and it's reflected in my weigh in.... i'm really good during the week though...

Cats tongue 12-04-2007 10:30 AM

lottie - Congrats on the NSV!!!! You'll be in those 22s in no time. I like your profile pic, is that you? You're super cute.

remember - I'm on the count down of school work as well. Today is my last day of classes. Then it's exams and I'm done!!! Hope your 48 hour exam went well for you. And all your other exams.

lovinglife - Congrats on the loss!!! 4lbs is awesome!

sxulcmnky - Congrats on .4lbs gone!!! I too would switch those weigh in days. Although for me, having weigh in and stats on Sundays keeps me accountable.

Last day of classes. A group of friends and I are going for a burger and beer special. I planned out my day so that I would be healthy until then... And I plan to try ordering a side salad, and not over eating. I've found when I eat with people around I tend to not overeat, which is good. Wish me luck with this!

mrsgeb2 12-04-2007 11:01 AM

Good Morning Ladies!!

The scale was up to 195 this morning and I know why, I have not been behaving good so now I'm paying the conseq. This summer I had gotten down to 182, my head was on right, I stuck to plan everyday with no problems but it's hard now. I can't seem to get juck food off my mind and I've been falling to temptation a lot lately. I've got to get past this dilemma and get my head back on straight. This is my promise to myself and I WILL keep it beacuse I know I can do it.

Remember and Cats - I am with you 100% on the countdown, this year we only get a week and a day off but it's better than nothing. I will still have to work at my part-time gig but at least I get to sleep in!! I need a break!!

Congrats to everyone with loses!! I WILL be joining you next week!!

Liapizzaria 12-04-2007 11:40 AM

So this weekend I was horrible at counting my calories!! I'm getting back on track today!

I do have one problem though- my job requires a lot of travel where I do go out to eat with clients......I know salad is always a good choice...but I guess I dont know how to allocate for the calories? How do you all deal with dining out when you are trying to keep track??

I havent weighed myself yet...its TOM (mine go for like 2 weeks including the cramping and the bloating) so I'm waiting because I ALWAYS gain water weight!

suitejudyblueeyes 12-04-2007 11:51 AM

Thanks everybody for the words of congrats on the 2 lbs!! :D

jusj: I know EXACTLY how you feel! My low weight last time I did this was 182, and that's the point where I let my mindset start to slip back to where it is now, and allowed all the weight to come back. Just keep your goals in mind and try to make CONSCIOUS decisions about everything you do -- don't mindlessly snack or anything. If you want a cookie, make conscious decision to have it. You'll be happier with the cookie while you're eating it (you made the choice) and you'll be more likely to pass up on the next temptation (you'll remember that cookie and appreciate it for what it was). You'll totally start coming back to us with losses soon!

cats tongue - sounds like you have a plan! be sure to have fun, enjoy the end of term celebration!

sxulcmnky - congrats on the loss! a loss is a loss! I'm with you on changing the weigh in days.... my official day is Friday because the weekends tend to be hard on me. Though there's the other school of thought, that Monday weigh-ins are supposed to keep you on track over the weekend. Never worked for me  Sometimes I weigh on Monday just to see what the weekend did, and this week Monday gave me my loss, not Friday... So who knows!!

lovinlifex2 - congrats on the 4lbs! That's awesome :D

lottie - happy early birthday, and congrats on the new size!!

Yesterday I had a bit of an eye-opening moment.... I went to the grocery store with a friend who has been steadily gaining weight and is totally unconcerned about it. She wanted to do an exam week junk food run. I went with her and watched her buy $50 worth of junk food of all kinds.... the only thing remotely good for her that she bought was a dozen eggs! The thing is, I used to be there right beside her, loading up on junk, thinking nothing of it. I thought I did well with a $1 bag of gummi worms and a box of oatmeal that I needed. The gummi worms I split with DH at home, anyway. But I think because I've been really cutting back on the sugar lately and I ate them RIGHT before bed I now feel like I have a hangover... headachey and tired and blah. That's the sort of crap sugar does to me :( Lesson learned.

lovinlifex2 12-04-2007 01:35 PM

Hi everyone....

I hope that everyone's week is going well. Mine has been busy...busy...busy, but it sure makes the day go by fast.

jana - hang in there honey...you will get your groove back.

suitejudy - it is so interesting when we really start listening to our bodies and realizing what a difference all the sugar and crap we put into them and how it makes us feel. I love gummy things too...I can walk right by the chocolate, but put out some skittles, gummy worms, or sweedish fish and my mouth is a waterin.

sxulcmnky - I also weigh on Mondays, but I like that cause it tends to keep me "honest" on the weekends, but good luck on finding what works for you.

cats tongue - have a great time with your end of term celebration.

liapizzaria - I too have lunch/dinner out with clients often. Days when I know that I have this I plan for my other meals to be light...say homemade veggie soup to off set the other. I don't know about you, but salads don't usually fill me up when eaten alone. Alot of times chicken things are good choices. You can get a grilled chicken sand almost anywhere and pair it with a side salad and there you go. Hope some of this helps.

Have a great day ladies - ttfn!

Vicque 12-04-2007 02:48 PM

Hey Everyone!

I new here and I've been kinda quiet so I just thought I'd drop in and say Hello!

I weighed in Today at 209, that's 2lbs lighter Yipee!! Last week was my TOM so I was pretty bad about my eating, it was way harder than I thought it would be, especially now that I'm more conscious of what I eat. I weighed on last Thurs. at 214 and was a little disconcerted but I'm guessing it was water weight and bloating? Do you all usually wait until after your TOM to weigh yourselves?

I saw the first snowflakes of the year this morning on the way to workout with my trainer and I was ecstatic, I LOVE the snow, reminds me that the semester is almost over. This week is my last week of classes and then Finals. I'm in my second year undergrad, Pre-med. :stress:  so I'm really going to try hard not to fall of the wagon and go for that exam week junk food that suitejudy was talking about...Wish me Luck!

Cats tongue 12-04-2007 02:58 PM

jana - Only a week and a day? That sucks! But at least it's time off anyway...

Liapizzaria - Ugh, sorry about your crappy TOM. Doesn't sound super pleasant. As for eating out? hmmm, I'm with lovinlife, I try to eat healthy the rest of the day with good homemade food. Also I do try to order something healthy as much as possible. Sometimes though i have to indulge ;) and on those days I definitely watch my calorie intake the rest of the day.

suitejudy - That sounds like an NSV if ever I read one. And it's so true about the crappy food in our bodies... I definitely don't have the same amound of nrg or the smooth running body if I don't eat healthy and balanced.

Vicque - Congrats on the 2lbs loss! Good luck with the junk food avoidance. That is always hard this time of year with exam stress and all. my advice would be just don't have it in your house, or whereever you study, at all. I definitely went out today and loaded up on the fruits and veggies to stop me from resorting to comfort/junk foods over the next few weeks...

So I'm here... avoiding studying. :p

sxulcmnky 12-04-2007 03:15 PM

YAY i made the avatar... i can't wait to look like my goal weight :D YAY!

and thanks everyone for the support... i think i will stick to my tuesday weighing day through december, then see what happens.

thankee, and yeah that's me, thanks. :)

lottie63 12-04-2007 03:56 PM

thanks for the happy bday!

HighHopesnDreams 12-04-2007 06:47 PM

Hi all,

Just wanted to pop in and say congrats to everyone who has had successes this week. Keep up the good work.
For everyone who isn't feeling too well... like me (darn cold!)... just try to take it easy and get yourself feeling better. I'm with ya.

So I still haven't had the nerve to get back on the scale yet... I'll likely wait until Friday so I can get back into the habit of Friday weigh-ins. Besides, I haven't been exercising at all lately so I'm really not looking forward to the scale. You'd think that since I'm home practically all the time now since I'm out of work that I'd get myself exercising everyday.... kinda hard to feel motivated when you really feel down in the dumps though. I've really got to get myself out of this funk!! Ergh!

artsnsmarts 12-04-2007 10:24 PM

Do we have a December NSV's thread yet?? It didn't look like it to me but I could be wrong?

sxulcmnky 12-05-2007 07:32 AM

well ladies... i weighed myself this morning... 209.8.... so ya... it's amzing that i can lose 2lbs in 1 day... less than 24 hours....weird

mrsgeb2 12-05-2007 09:52 AM

Good Morning Ladies!!

The scale stuck at 195 today. I just put it together this morning and realized that is a 13lb gain! My mind is on straight so I'm getting it together.

lovin - thanx for the words of encouragement!!

suitejudy - my closet friends and I are always falling off the wagon at the same time. it's like we will all do good for a few weeks then we will call each other saying, 'i'm starting boot camp this week' (our code word for staying on plan, STRICTLY with NO slips). I have a friend that is a little bit heavier than me and I have one that weighs about 10lbs less but has the smallest stomach ever with the biggest butt ever. I would actually love to be here size but I understand where she is coming from because she was much smaller in high school and I know she just wants to get back to where she was at.

I'm actually would really love to just get my stomach to be smaller I'm satisfied with the resat of my body.

liapizzaria - i know how ya feel girl! TOM will be here next week and I can feel the sore breast and early cramps already.

Hey, maybe that's why the scale is so high! I forgot all about that! Okay, now I'm a little bit more at ease!

I have a question for all you ladies...I don't have any WATP dvd's right now but I have done the workout before...do you think if i just watched one of my favorite 30min shows and walked in place with some of the added movements she does in the video that it will be an effective workout?

Have a great day ladies!!!

Cats tongue 12-05-2007 12:08 PM

Good morning all you fabulous 20-somethings!!!

highhopes I know what you mean about not wanting to workout when you feel like crap. But I have to say, it's a cycle: you feel gross and you don't workout and then you feel even MORE gross because you didn't workout so the next day you don't workout again... My advice? No matter how bad you're feeling get out there and workout! Even just 15min will leave you feeling just a teensy bit better. :) I promise.

lottie Happy Birthday!!!

sxulmnky - 2lbs in one day? nice! Are you a daily weigher? Is there one day a week you count your weight or are you taking a sort of "average weight"?

jana hmmm. I think that could definitely be an effective workout. As long as you keep walking. I know when I try to watch TV and workout I sometimes get distracted.. hehehe. I'm bad like that. Of course I've never really tried doing a cardio workout in front of the TV, usually just weights.

artsnsmarts I'm not sure if we have a december NSV thread. I haven't seen one either... By the way I like your screen name.

Alright ladies, I am in a good mood for several reasons:
a) Classes are done!! Woot Woot! I might have to study for exams, but I can now sleep in. :D Makes me happy.
b) Last night I went out with friends for a burgers and beer celebration of the end of term. I definitely only ate my burger and most of my beer. My friend M (one of those silly boys who can eat anything and still look fabulous) ate my fries. It feels like a fantastic NSV, because I didn't overeat, I just felt alittle over satisfied (big burger! And a thick pint of guiness.).
c) I have more energy and my eating is starting to get normal again. yay!

I have so much to do today! ugh! Got to get sewing, I'm making a large quilt like blanket for my mom and dad. I hope it works out just as I'm planning it. Plus I want to make some small things for my friends (like magic bags and such...) and maybe a baby blanket for my landlords (they just had a baby and she is the sweetest thing ever!!!)... Plus studying. :p

Liapizzaria 12-05-2007 12:37 PM

Well...I DID weigh myself today and I am at 182....and I am still at TOM (mine usually last for 2 weeks including all of the cramps and bloating...eck...) so I'm thinking once thats over I should see some weight loss since I know I am retaining a TON of water. I'll probably weigh in again on Monday.

I'm going out to lunch today and will order a salad. What dressing tips do you use? Should I bring my own low cal or dip my fork into dressing then put on the lettuce.....I'm going to BJ's Brewery....any low calorie suggestions for there??

jusj- You have already come soooooo far! You can get back on track! And yes, TOM is usually like 3-7 pounds of gained water weight. Arent we lucky???

Cats - Congrats on the end of the term!! Isnt that a great feeling??

sxul
- love your avatar!! 2lbs!! Thats great!

Liapizzaria 12-05-2007 03:12 PM

Hey- does anyone have a good EASY recipe for something low-cal that you dip your veggies in? I love dipping my apples in Yoplait light vanilla yogurt, but I need a dipper for veggies. I have a hard time eating them plain.

artsnsmarts 12-05-2007 03:23 PM

Not related to weight or anything AT ALL...but....

two great pieces of news:

-- Just got accepted to transfer to Northeastern University (still have 3 more schools to hear from though)

-- Just found out that I was cast in a 3-hour special to air on the History Channel

woohoo!

lovinlifex2 12-05-2007 06:04 PM

Happy Hump Day...

I hope that everyones day has went well. Mine is almost over and I am ready to head home.

artsnsmarts - congrats on both accounts...how exciting. What is the documentary about?

liapizzaria - 2 weeks...you poor thing. I guess I am one of the lucky ones where my TOM really isn't that bad. 4-5 days and it is gone, never really had cramps either. Never heard of BJs Brewery, but a salad seems like a safe bet to me. I like to take the salad spritsers with me - they are fairly smaller then the full size bottles of dressing and fit nicely in your purse.

cats tongue - you must be a very crafty girl to make such nice gifts. I wish I could do something like that - you are very thoughtful!

I hope that everyone has a great evening.

Cats tongue 12-05-2007 10:09 PM

hmmm today has been a good day. I've done a lot and feel pretty satisfied. Just have some dishes to do and some lazing about. :p

artsnsmarts - congrats!

liapizzaria - it feels so great to be at the end of term!!! I have no ideas for veggies...

lovinlife- Thanks. I do like to craft. Hopefully they will end up nice. lol. Try an easy craft sometime! You'd be surprised at how easy some things are.

hope2loseit4good 12-05-2007 10:30 PM

I am back from the abyss... ;) DB graduated from Officer Candidate School on Friday... so proud! Between the 4 days in Newport and Turkey Day... I'm 3 lbs heavier. :( So, I've got to kick it back into action!!! I am happy to say that my goal for DB's grad was to be -30 lbs... and I was.... but, now, I'm not! I need to stick with this forum and stick to journaling my food... oh, and I've been slacking with the walking. Those are my 3 goals ... to get back to those things and stick with them even though the holidays are hard for losing:) (maintained through the new year would be great;)!)

Sorry, I can't comment to everyone:(... BUT, I'll be back into the groove soon!

i think it would help... any movement is a step up... but i do suggest getting the WATP dvd... they are awesome and one of my favorite things to do when i get home from work....

ps: i never thought i'd EVER say that about exercise

Liapizzaria 12-06-2007 11:25 AM

So yesterday was a tough day. I did great calorie wise, but I was in such a blue mood. I was crying about my mom all day..literally all day. I havent done that since last year when she first passed away. It's a very lonely spot to be in because no one quite understands what your going through- unless they have been there. Maybe its just the holidays coming up? I dunno...it was just such a off day for me yesterday. BUT..Today is a new day and I'm going to make sure that it is great! The good news is that I didn't turn to food yesterday when I was down which is what got me to my 40lb weight gain in the first place!!

mrsgeb2 12-06-2007 11:44 AM

Good Morning Ladies!!

I'm getting a late start this morning, but it has NOT been good. Yesterday was a perfect eating day!! I'm talking nothing off-plan went in my mouth, then I get on the scale this morning and I'm up 1lb to 196! TOM is next week and I'm cramping already but I only use that excuse when I've been eating badly, but that's not the case now and it's driving me insane.

I got a good 20min of power walking in yesterday while watching this weeks episode of HOUSE. I'm really upset about this.

I have eczema and with all the dry weather that we are having down here in Texas it is flaring up all over my back.

There are TWO places that I never want to go back to in my life and that's: gaining all that weight back and having rash ALL OVER my skin again. It seems like that's where I'm headed and it's driving me crazy!! It's like I'm not in control of anything right now.

liapizzaria - I barely make it through my simple 5 day of TOM...but 2 weeks...you are def. a SOLDIER.

omg...okay i just got my spirits lifted a little...someone just came in and asked me 'where i'm wasting away to? you don't even look like the same person in the face!'

even though it's been awhile since i've seen her it still feels good to hear it again...i'm staying away from the scale for the next week...i will not get back on until next friday...PROMISE...

i'm :) now...

Wow...it's quiet around here!!!

Good morning to those who are listening!!

The scale was stuck at 196 again...it really upsets me to see a number so close to 200 back on the scale again.

I'm going to start the South Beach Diet tomorrow...I did Phase 1 in the begining of Feb and lost about 12lbs. I know what to buy and what to cook...and I remember not feeling deprived or starved. I do remember the first 2-3 days being the hardest so pray for me. I'm starting it on a Sat because I have to work all weekend so but I don't have to be there until 2pm so I can start the first 2 days w/o a cup of coffee, which is the only thing that keeps me sane in the morning with the kids at the school.

My friend keeps reminding me that TOM is next week and I should just chalk it up to that. That's fine but it still does not change the fact that I need to lose more weight to be happy.

I hope all you ladies have a wonderful day!

Hey Jana!!!

I do hope the South Beach Diet works for ya!

I made my way back to the gym for the first time since Sunday! I felt so strong today, lots of energy, all of that good stuff. However, I know i'll feel it ALL tomorrow.
