im sooooo glad everyone is finding this post to bring them good fond memories. . . add to it if you remember anything you were in love with during the 90's
That's pretty funny...I was born in '80, and my boyfriend in '79, so we're both hybrid 80's/90's kids.
We were rapping out the Fresh Prince theme song the other day, and marvelled that we still remembered all the words even though we barely watched the show.
edit: speaking of the 90's, I was at a Smashing Pumpkins concert on Monday night, and as I danced to "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" I realized, with some shock, that I had been waiting to hear it live for MORE THAN ELEVEN YEARS. Man, did that make me feel old.
OMG me & my brother were addicted to Nickelodeon when we were kids! Especially Saturday nights when Are You Afraid of the Dark came on. Slap braclets, trolls, pogs, collected them all. Was also big into scrunchies & bangs & layered socks
And to this day, I call every gaming system Nintendo, which gets me a very annoyed roll of the eyes from my ten year younger cousins, "It's a Playstation, duh!"
I had a Giga-Pet for a year in 6th grade (I was 11) and the year was 1997. I remember this one girl though kept hers for like 3 years after they went out of style, she had like 15 of them on a lanyard and they would always go off during classes when we were in like 7th and 8th grade!
Wait, it was PicturePages. Picture Picture was that big wall picture on Mr. Rogers
Yea, I had a froggie giga-pet. It died shortly there after....
I still have my popple and my love-a-lot carebear! Someone gave me a bunch of VHS with the old movie and some of the episodes of carebears. Wow....we were easily entertained...
This made me laugh but, also made me a little sad. It's amazing how much the world can change in such a small amount of time. It's funny now that my little girls play with my old cabbage patch kids. I still watch some of the old cartoon shows on boomerang. I still have some of my old mix tapes that probably don't work.
Most of all, I remember recording(VCR) the performances on Nick of music groups that I loved and then watching them over and over again. I probably have some of them lying around somewhere. My favorite Nick show was Don't Just Sit There, late 80's early 90's. I also loved Are You Afraid of the Dark?
You used to listen to the radio all day long just to record your FAVORITE song of ALL time.
And the DJ would always it up by speaking through the beginning!!! I have a cassette full of me trying to record "Everlong".
I remember when (for those in LA) KROQ was worth listening to.
When sex education came from Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew at 11pm.
Slapbands.
When the height of 6th grade fashion was your DARE shirt, white shorts, red and black socks on one foot, and black and red on the other. With red, white, and black scrunchies, of course.
When my high school parking lot looked like a high school parking lot and not an auto dealership.
When Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles t-shirts were in style for the first time.
And to bring this to weight loss: when fashion was bad. When I was in the US I tried on my 8th grade graduation dress, and it FIT! And it was horrible...
