Nadia - I think your averaging thing might be my new plan. I went for about a year without weighing myself very often (partly because I knew I was gaining a bit, not losing) and now I've got a flashy new scale and it's nuts how much variation there is!

This morning I weighed in at 172.2, about a lb lower than my lowest recent weight, which I'm attributing to a late-night workout last night, since a few days ago I was over 176 (after a lot of eating last weekend...) I try not to let myself believe the scale until it says the same thing a few days in a row, but if 172 is for real I'm stoked. That's about where I was when I started law school a year ago, and only 7 lb above my lowest ever adult weight about a year and a half ago, yay.

I'm 210 as of this morning. The last time I was on a scale last month I was 215 and I really didn't think I'd lost anything so I'm pretty happy!

eastcoastgirl, and KimProbable, congrats on your losses!!

eastcoatgirl, I know exactly what you mean about the scale being so different day to day (or minute to minute!). I really like my temporary digital scale because it is thin, light, and makes no noise, so it is very discreet (I can carry it in my backpack!). However, I found out quickly that if I stepped on the scale five times in a row, I rarely got two of the same number. I started taking five weigh-ins in a row and always counted the heaviest. I think it sort of needs warmed up. Now, I tap it a few times before I weigh-in (like weighing my foot or something) and I can usually get five of the same reading in the row after that. Not sure if that will work for all scales, but it seems like mine takes a little longer to fully wake-up!

Yesterday morning I weighed in at.... 155 :( No loss for me this week. But to be fair, I had a really busy week and only got to the gym once. Yesterday I was disappointed, but I figure I just have to try harder this week! I've started a food diary and am going to get to the gym more.
Congrats ecg and kimprobable! Like the name, btw :)

I'm down 1 pound this morning. I am officially in the 150s! :)

Amberelise 09-24-2007 12:00 PM

I weighed in on Friday at 153. That's a loss of 2.5 pounds on the week and 4.5 pounds total.

Now, here's the one thing I'm not completely sure about. My monthly visitor came today. Would that have thrown my numbers off on Friday or will it be this Friday my numbers are off or both?

helpmelose 09-24-2007 02:50 PM

casey- congrats on getting into the 150's!! Yeah :carrot:

I am down 1.5 pounds from last week so I am happy officially weigh 146.6!!! I am pretty happy with this, motivation to kick butt this week to see what my next number will be!! :D

I just hit mine and was trying all day to find a conclusive answer to this. For me, it usually seems that during and then a few days after that my weight is higher (or pants are tighter). I can not find anything that conclusively says anything one way or another. I am guessing that it really depends on the person. Remember to drink plenty of water to flush out retained water and take iron or multivitamins to knock away some of the cravings. Oh, the joys of being a woman. :barf:

Hey all,

I'm brand new here- excited to get started. Usually I weigh myself on Mondays (start of the week I guess) but have found this disheartening because I usually overindulge on the weekends. Changing to Fridays- let you know in a few days!

So this week was a total wash for me. My graph is practically a straight line. Average did not gain and showed a loss, but actual was just the opposite. Hmm. A bit discouraging, but I had a bad cold for most of the week and my period for some of it. `Tis a new week.

Average last week: 193.14 Scale reading last Wednesday: 190.8
Average this week: 191.51 Scale reading this Wednesday: 191.4
Loss between averages: about 1 1/2 pounds.
Gain between actuals: about 1/2 pound.

I am sure glad that I am keeping track of my averages, because simply seeing a gain after a week is so deceptive (to me).

I just had my first weigh-in, and I lost 4lbs. Down to 221. It is a good loss for the first week, though I in the past I have lost more in the first week. However I am retaining water like crazy (TOM) and I overindulged yesterday.

mrsgeb2 09-28-2007 10:04 AM

Average last week:188
Average this week:192

I have not been eating to good this week. I'll do good for one day then horrible the next.

Next week will be better! I did get my crunches in this week!:)

Amberelise 09-28-2007 10:04 AM

No loss for me. No gain, either. Just a flat line at 153. What I will give to get out of the 150s!! I'll get it next week. I'm just going to have to be very angelic at the ball park tomorrow.

jankijac 09-28-2007 10:24 AM
