Ok I've got a few questions for you ladies. I've run 3 times now this week. My back is KILLING me. A couple years ago I found out I had 2 bulging discs in my lower back. Losing weight has helped TREMENDOUSLY to the point where they haven't bothered me at all for the past 6 months. But this is a huge blow, since I love running. Does anyone else have an issue like this when they run?
Also, how many of you bring water with you when you run? I did it once and it seemed like it helped a lot. All of my re-usable water bottles are huge though so I need to find a smaller one to bring with me. |
I don't take water with me because drinking while running will usually give me cramps and stitches but my boyfriend does. He'll guzzle through a whole 1.5 litres on a long run lol.
|
I've never taken water on my run - but then again my runs don't usually go longer than 30-40 mins. There's a drinking fountain in the park I run by so if I am desperate... :)
I just forced myself to go out and run --- and I am so glad I did! Did my 3 mile loop and stretched and showered and now I feel soo much better! I have a final project due tomorrow morning for school so it will be a long night - but the run gave me a little boost of energy. :carrot: |
I tripped and fell while I was out trail running today, I didn't think anybody saw but then I heard "are you okay?" from a mountain biker up on the hill, I was so embarrassed! I was on a really rocky trail so my hands are scraped up and one of my knees is hurting but I'm pretty much okay, just feeling a little foolish, lol :D I cut my run short to 30 minutes though because my knee was hurting, I'm hoping it's just bruised.

Went for a nice long run this morning with my boyfriend...and it killed is lol.
We started at the base of Mount Ainslie, ran down around the lake...with a massive head wind nearly the whole way around which made it the equivilant of running three times the distance and the back to the base of Ainslie and then UP the mountain for the 3kms (just about 2 mile) and then back down again. In total the run was about 16kms or 10 miles and we took about 80 minutes all up. I think I have a blister lol. |
I don't run, but my husband just bought a fanny pack type thing at wal-mart that has a pouch and two 'pockets' that hold two pretty big bottles of water... just thought that might help!
|
I only take water on like a really really reallly long run - that means 8+ usually. and I haven't done that long a run in a long time. Like since I trianed for the marathon - and then I used to bring money to buy a gatorade or such during a 6 mile break to mile 12 or something. oh those were the days I should train for one of those again :)
also I used to have this hiking thing that carried two water bottles that on really long runs I would take. when I am doing workouts at the track or at the gym though, I take a water bottle (like boot camp, interval training or spin class). B (I need to go runnnnn haven't in a while.) |
I am very impressed that some of you (Lyria, Wisher, others?) do trail/mountain/incline running. I have definately been sticking to flat areas. Even an overpass does me in! Any words of advice on how to start doing inclines??
I just got back from a run - I was really pushing myself for speed. It started out great, I was even thinking about how I was going to come write in this thread about it (I'm such a dork) but then the last half mile I got side cramps and my legs felt like lead. I pushed myself through - but wasn't my best run. Hope everyone's week is off to a good start! P.S. I've seen people running with Camelbaks for their water. Anyone ever used one of those? |
I just did a short run this morning at the gym on the treamill - about 4 miles worth.
I was (still am!) so sore from boot camp on monday morning that I almost felt like not doing anything at all. However once i started running I realised it was using totally different muscles and I didn't feel it at all! Just goes to show I guess even when I think running gives my legs and bum a good overall work out it still misses the odd spot! Tomorrow morning is boot camp again...maybe...just maybe...if it isn't so foggy you lose your hand in front of your face i'll go for a quick lap around "The Ponds" afterward...it's only about 2 mile...nice and short! |
hi everyone!! I am so so envious of you hardcore runners! How do you ever manage 4+ miles at one go??
I'm 23 and it seems like my body can BARELY run 2 miles!!! especially without getting a stitch in my side!!! ughh pllllease help with any advice???????? I'd love to be a 4+ mile runner......somehow! |
Hi Guys,
I did a short speed work out this morning. I'm training for a 10K now, so I've started integrating speed workouts, easy runs and long runs into my training. The speed work out this morning was shorter than I would have liked (I was pressed for time), but it felt absolutely great. I felt so strong out there. In terms of water, I take water with me when I'm going for a long run, or if its really hot. I just bought a camelbak, because the other night I went out for a long run, in 37 degree C weather (sorry, don't know what that is in F), and managed to make myself sick. I've only run with the camebak once since I bought it, but I like it...the bottle/bag thing itself has a lifetime guarantee, and the water stays cold for quite a long time. I got mine on sale for about $40. Bida - I'd love to do a marathon some day! After my 10K, my goal is to do a half, and then a full marathon! |
Turbo - don't despair, you'll get there. My advice would be to slowly build up your mileage. When I first started running, I would run for 1 minute and walk for 1 minute, and gradually I worked my way up. I NEVER thought that I'd be able to run the way I can now! I still run pretty slow, but I really enjoy the challenge.

I went for a very brief run this morning - just 2 miles around the Ponds - took about 15 mins I guess.
It was short because I had boot camp just before it and urgh...that leaves me feeling like i've been through a grinder backwards! I swear I have muscles in my upper body/arms and back I never ever knew existed! Running might be awesome for your legs but it does squat (haha no pun intended) all for your upper body. This sunday is the city to surf - wish me luck! Liv |
Well I'm feeling pretty down after my run today. I took my car out to figure out 3.1 miles (I'm shooting for that 5K) then ran it to see where I stood. I started off great, ran for a while and was feeling good in general, then the hills started to get to me and the heat started to get to me and I just totally petered out half way through. I ended up walking more than running and it took me 45 minutes which seems soooooo loooooong! I have a lot more work ahead of me than I thought I did. It's such a bummer to learn you're not doing nearly as well as you thought, it's really taken me down a couple of pegs!

Well!
The city to surf was on Sunday and despite the weather being a good 10 degrees (celcius) warmer than what I am used to running in at the moment my boyfriend and I made the time we aiming for comfortably :) We wanted to run under 75 minutes and we did the 10 miles in just a touch over 72 minutes! Just about sprinted the last kilometre...really came good towards the end...the only part where I lost time was about a third in when the sun hit me and I went all wobbly...luckily the drinks stations started not long after that so some fluid and a good cool down did wonders. Anyway...great weekend had by all :) |
