Kayley,
Any time we have a thread here that's a bit controversial, you get to hear all kinds of opinions, which I think is great, as long as everyone can stay respectful. What I don't think is great is being harrassed through PM & email. Unbelievable.
And that ^^^ means a lot coming from me, b/c at one point I was labeled "mean" for a response I'd written. But at least I wrote it on the board for all to see.
I remember the Pretty Plus section of Sears, the AYDS candies, the Figurines meal-replacement wafer cookies, the Weight Watchers cards, etc, even though I wasn't plus sized in the 70's. Mid to late 80s were when I really 'ballooned'. Lane Bryant used to be a LOT better. Their clothes cost more, but were made with a better quality of fabric, etc. Now, pah. I only go there for bras. Too trendy, clothes cut wrong for a true fat girl, not just a big girl w/no rolls or arms to hide. Jerks.
I think parents are somewhat responsible, but you have to start early & often with the fruit/veg/whole grain routine & even then, we still have free will & are GOING to eat pizza & drink soda w/our friends. Not to mention everyone's metabolism is different.
So is there a correct answer to this? Probably not. Everyone is different, which is why there IS no ONE diet for everyone.
