Well, I got up about 8 to get ready for my water aerobics class.
Wandered around, drank my first glass of water, turned on the computer.
The phone rang, it was a recruiter from an agency where I'd sent my resume like a month ago. Can I do a quick phone interview, they have this company, and all the resumes they have submitted have been rejected. 15 minute interview -- I hang up. Get out my towel and bathing suit.
Phone rings, can I be ready for an interview in 2 hrs? The place is like .5 hrs from our house. The job is for 6 weeks, but there may be additional work coming up. (Employment trumps exercise, anyday. That's one of the things that got me in this shape).
They will mail me driving instructions, contact name, etc. I log on.
There is an e-mail from another company, asking me to contact them about a one-day-a-week job. I call back, indicate that I am interested, and set up an appointment for Monday.
Dog wakes up and whines. She is pretty miserable from her surgery, so I throw on a pair of shoes, carry her down the stairs, we go for a walk. She has the world's most amazing cast -- she sort of has to drag her whole leg behind her and hop, so we hop around the yard, then I carry her back into the house (our doors all open onto porches and decks, which is very pretty, but we never thought the dog would become disabled). The cast is coming off in about 8 weeks, boy will I be strong by then!
Go in, print off the instructions, grab my laptop and cell phone, throw on a silk shell and suit and heels, and run out the door. Now here's the part that's related to this forum -- this is a suit that I did not fit into in April, and the shirt I wore was one that I couldn't button then.
The interview was fantastic - loved the people and they loved me. The main interviewer said, "No, I don't have any questions. Your resume indicates that you're exactly the kind of person we want!"
After a couple of hours, I leave. Call the recruiter on the cell. Tell him it went well. Stop off and pick up food for dinner. By the time I get home, there is a message on my machine -- can I start Monday?
I call back, we talk money -- they try to pay me the bottom the the range, but I checked their corporate website, and know that they are willing to go several dollars an hour more -- got it!
The only thing I have to do is cancel the other interview, which I hate doing, then the guy calls, something came up, can they call me to reschedule. So I don't even have to feel bad.
Well, it doesn't have benefits. But if they like me, it might turn into something, and the vet had said that the dog should stay in her crate except when she was going out for potty pruposes, so I don't have to stay home and take care of her.
Now, this gives me an opportunity to test out some of the strategies about incorporating exercise into my life while working that I begin to think about when I was working on my last short-term contract. And one can eat really healthy when one brings one lunch, and has no kitchen to go into and graze in. I'm excited.
Congrats on the new job!! You must be so excited! You're right, I think it does make it easier when you're not at home all day. I know I have a much easier time on the days when I'm out of the house and staying busy. If I'm at home, it's much easier to snack and munch. It may be harder to work in the exercise, but I know you can do it.
KristasMom...congrats on the new job. How exciting! I hope you had a chance Fri nite to fit in some rest and relaxation. I was out of breath just READING about your day.
I realized that I hadn't given a pupdate on the dog's leg -- we went to the specialist, and she needed a hock fusion. I checked out the vet with a friend of mine who breeds Newfoundlands, and she said they're the best, pricey, but the best. So we went with them. They operated Wednesday, and I brought her home Thursday. She was so miserable, she whined and cried and tried to lick her bandage.
But by today, she's much better. She's bouncing around like her old self, unfortunately, she has a cast on a leg that she sticks out behind her. She has become DANGEROUS. That this is a weapon.
She stepped on me tonight, and it really hurt, but that wasn't as bad as when she hit the kid in her shin. Black-and=blue.
