My parents are away on vacation and my dad has ended up in the hospital, and is going to need heart surgery. Still waiting on the details about when and where - prayers and good thoughts are gratefully welcomed.
Clearly, that's the bad news.
But I am also going to find the good news, which is that I am not stress eating about this. The best, only thing I can do right now is to honor my commitment to myself to improve my own health.
Oh... I'm so sorry to hear that! I can only imagine how worried you must be *hugs*
Well done on not giving in to the stress eating. I do it myself and feel it actually makes the stress worse, hormones and all. Easily said, I know, but you need to be as healthy as you can through this, I suppose.
I hope your dad comes through it ok. I hope the surgery will be the start of a road to his improved health *more hugs*
Thank you elvis, the shiv, lunar, charliee, misti, bargoo and toastedsmoke!
Still waiting on a decision whether they will go ahead with surgery where he is, or let him come home to have it done here. It's especially frustrating to have this all happening at a distance like this, or maybe that's just the part that is easier to focus on right now....
AprilSnow - uncertainty is terribly stressful. How difficult that this is happening while they are away, without you close by. But you can handle this. You want to be healthy to take care of your family, and your parents, and whether your dad has heart surgery where he is now or when he comes home, your parents will need your help and assistance, and they will probably require your nutrition advice, as well.
I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. You're doing the absolute best thing you can do, keep yourself healthy for yourself and for them. My dad had his 1st heart attack at age 34, then 3 more before having a triple bypass when I was 16. It really shook me up as I approached my 30's, and even though my weight was slowly coming off, the closer I got to the 300 lb mark and age 34, the more it hit home. Keep yourself trucking on the road with health, it's truly the best thing you can do.
