This is what I was thinking too. A lot of shoes force your feet/legs one way or the other to "compensate" for pronating. Absolute rubbish in my opinion.

If you don't experience pain barefoot try walking in minimal shoes or aqua socks. Warm up before and stretch after as well.

A magnesium supplement and extra potassium can help for some.
