  • What a wonderful achievement! I'm so proud of you for running the Peachtree. My goal is to run it one day, too.
  • So inspiring! And success isn't the end goal. Its every victory you have achieved and I would say its alot! You both look GREAT!!!
  • What an awesome feeling you and your husband must have. Congrats, You should be very PROUD!!
  • WOW! Congratulations. You are such an inspiration and thank you for sharing this article.

    My fave part...how powerful

“For most of my life,” said Lesley, “I’ve had this one identity: the fat girl, the uncoordinated one who was never good at sports and was always picked last for any teams ... I have achieved what I never thought I could do -- I am an athlete.”
  • Congratulations and great job. You both must feel great.
  • wow! congratulations!! i am sure this will inspire MANY people- you two look great and come across so REAL. fantastic story!!!!
  • Lesley, I think you really are a success story already. Your pictures are just awesome. I am almost 2 years into my journey that I started alone with my husband as my supporter but not my weight loss partner. In the last month he has gotten on board and started his own journey, which is nice for us to have that common bond. While I am more passionate about how I fuel my body and daily exercise it is great to see him taking action to get in better shape.
I have told you before how inspiring you are to me. Once I read your Iron Girl story I was like if she can do so can I.We are close in age, starting weight and both southern girls (I'm in Birmingham). My journey has been a pretty solo adventure and just reading your post helps me feel like I'm not alone. Congrats on the article!
  • WOW!!

    This really made me happy

FANTASTIC! You and your husband will be motivating so many people to make positive changes in their own lives.
  • awsome job. You both look amazing.
  • I love that you call yourself in athlete in that article!! Yes you are!!
  • Great story on a great achievement! Y'all look so good (and younger).
  • wow! the two of you look FANTASTIC! I agree, you're a success story already. Thanks for sharing that, very uplifting
  • You both look wonderful; what a handsome couple -- congrats on achieving your dreams ... These personal success stories always inspire me to keep on, keepin' on!
  • You and your husband look fantastic! Congratulations.
  • Thanks, everyone!

Honestly, the fact that we've finally been able to do this and make what we wanted for so long a reality is a little surreal! But I never even imagined I could be an athlete, so that's been probably the biggest thing for me.

Of course, a lot of what we'd said was edited out for space, and one of those things was how much the support we received from family and friends had a role in our success - and of course, I count you all here at 3FC in that group! Thank YOU for being here and being a support and inspiration to me as I've made my way along this journey. I hope someone did read our story and use it to believe they could make this change as well, the idea of that makes me really happy.

Nikki - I'm glad your hubby is on board with you now. It does make a difference! And you can totally do a triathlon! Birmingham is not that far from Atlanta and they are holding Iron Girl again next year. A women-only event is a great introduction to the sport and has a really supportive vibe to it. Besides IG, there are others held in the Southeast as well: the Trekwomen series and the Danskin series. I say go for it! You never know what you're capable of until you try.
