Default s/o TOM.....

I am 38 and the last couple of years TOM has been weird....but this time period has also been my highest weight range ever. Anyway, TOM lasts as long as two weeks......Since Tuesday (sorry if TMI) I have had very light spotting, but I know at some point of the next couple of days I am going to get a flood and that will last 5-6 days and then several days to a week of "let's get it over with" spotting. It is so annoying. I am going to freak out if there are potentially two weeks where I lose little to nothing because of this crap.

Have you talked to your Gyn about this?

As a young woman, 20-30, I had the most regular cycle ever. 28-29 days like clock work. I am now 42, starting at 37-38, my period went haywire. I literally went to the ER one night due to uncontrollable bleeding. I was soaking a night time pad every 5 minutes and had cramps like childbirth. I was given a pregnancy test to rule out a miscarriage (was negative) then given a shot to contract the uterus to stop the bleeding. It worked. The next month, the same thing (minus the ER visit). The following month, cramps like you wouldn't believe plus heavy bleeding plus a 2 week period. My periods ended up being about 3 weeks apart, bleed for 2, etc. Bah!

I went to my Dr. had some tests, there was nothing wrong actually, no cancer, no tumors, no fibroids, just a wonky menstrual cycle and was diagnosed with "peri-menopause" and put on a low dose birth-control to regulate the cycle. My actual TOM was back to a reasonable 5-7 days. I even went on the pill non-stop (no period at all for 2 years!) with my Drs. permission. It was heaven but pricey as my insurance doesn't cover the off label prescribing.

Long story short, still on the pill, TOM nice and predictable. I'd go to the Dr. to express your concerns. It's weird to be near menopause or sort of in menopause (peri) at only 37 but nice to know I'm closer to having this nonsense done for good!!

I was having issues with really long periods and super heavy bleeding. I got a Mirena IUD and it's made a huge difference for me. I'm not one of the lucky ones who ends up with no periods at all while on it but mine are back to a normal, manageable amount.

Something to ask your doctor about....
