Reading this thread reinforces my belief that we all deep-down we really do want and enjoy eating healthfully!

1) I don't really like sweets - can't stand sweetened drinks, candy or desserts in any quantity.
2) I really like fresh fruit and veggies
3) I LOVE seafood - fish and shellfish - even if it's not in garlic butter sauce!
4) I have always enjoyed exercise, especially strength training.
5) I have never smoked
6) I have a very supportive group of friends and family

I think I stayed overweight because I became disconnected to the things that I really enjoyed. We ate out WAY too often and cooking dinner from whole foods seemed like a chore rather than a joy. I am thankful to have these underlying positives because they are the points I return to as I travel down my healthy road.

Hey neato thread! It's always good to look at our STRENGTHS and not just our mistakes & weaknesses!!

Let's see...

*Never was a drinker, so didn't have to give up the booze!
*I thought my 1 can of diet coke a day was bad, but i guess it's not so dire
*always had a big salad before dinner
* always loved fruit
* always loved cooking
* always a very good sleeper
* never used much salt
* always have/had/will continue to have a good sense of humour about life

I never was a binge eater -- there were very few occasions where I did eat "excessive" like that. When the Tostitos Hint of Lime chips first came out, I bought a bag and seriously polished the whole thing off in 2 sittings. I've bought them since then and never had much of a problem doing that again, but I don't usually buy tortilla chips now anyway. Also, it's not hard for me to eat a whole row of oreos in one sitting. Knowing this about myself, I just don't buy them .

I've never used much salt when cooking and generally don't like the way salty foods sit with me. Whereas my dad would put salt on everything, even pizza.

I never had a huge problem eating right before I go to bed, but I have done it before just because we end up eating dinner late, or whatever. I just hate the heavy feeling in my stomach when I'm trying to go to sleep. Often I have that heavy feeling even when I wake up in the morning, which makes me feel half sick! I can't sleep if I'm really hungry though either, so if I am hungry I'll eat something light like a piece of fruit.

I have always loved fruits and veggies (just loved the less healthy stuff too)
I'm not an all-or-nothing person so I can eat sweets in moderation.
I don't tend to beat myself up over poor choices. I'm like Scarlett O'Hara "tomorrow is another day".

I'm not really into fried foods either.

I've never added salt to food unless a recipe calls for it (and isn't optional)
I definitely don't like hamburgers and a lot of other greasy or fried foods
I've never been one to overeat unless it comes to pasta and breads
I don't drink or smoke
I love going out and walking with my family
I don't have an emotional connection with food unless it's my time of the month or I'm really down-then 1 chocolate bar will do me.
