I don't buy margarine or butter but I have a selection of various oils at home. I use olive oil for a lot of stuff but really I don't use much oil at all. If a recipe calls for butter/margarine, I may use Earth Balance which has no Trans fats (the bad stuff in margarine).
Margarine is awful for you. Did you know things like Country Crock spread, I can't believe it's not butter, any kind of "spread" etc...is only one molecule away from plastic? If you leave it outside bugs will not bother it at all, and in summer it won't melt. If you melt it in the microwave, it completely seperates with oil on the bottom and crap on the top. No amount of stirring will make it mix again.
