caryesings, have you heard of AlsoSalt? It is a potassium salt substitute. It is safe to use on food--no danger of too much--and it tastes fine! The only thing is you have to use it on foods where it will mix or dissolve in, rather than on something like popcorn.

I use it not because I have to watch sodium, but because I could use a little more potassium.
A friend of mine was getting leg cramps at night while training for a long bike ride. She found that a regular stretching routine helped also. And there are some athletic food supplements as well... but I guess everyone is different, so it's trial and error.
