slimmingsi - you have plenty of time you can do it. When I started running last year I couldn't run a minute and by July/Aug (about 6 months later) I was doing 7 or so miles at a time. Just take your time and don't push yourself too much. No better motivation then signing up for something.

The way i started running was run 30-60sec, walk a minute. I gradually increased to the point that i can now on my long runs run 12 km.

The other thing to do is to look for runs in your area to train for. Start with a 5km then a 10km etc.

good luck! Start slow and gradually increase that way you can avoid injury!

Running in the rain keeps your body from overheating.

If you haven't done much running before, I highly recommend the Couch to 5K (C25K) program at Cool Running. It gets you to 5K in two months, which is a great start for your half-marathon.

They also have really supportive, amazing forums there for new runners.

Hmmm, somehow I doubt you were talked into this against your will based on some of your other posts ... good luck with it!
