Every year, on Memorial Day, there is a 10K race in my hometown. The participants range from serious runners to dads with kids on their shoulders, whole sororities in princess costumes to 90 year-old race walkers. My husband and son have run it every year since we moved here --- and every year, I have been too out of shape, too
FAT, to take part.
My first major goal when I joined 3FC at the end of January was to be in good enough shape to be able to part of this tradition in 2009 --- not to run it, not to be top in my age group, just to be able to walk fast enough and long enough to go 6.2 miles before they cleared the streets for the professional race.
AND TODAY I DID IT!
Look at what we can do when we jump it with both feet! Yeah, I am still in crappy shape and I am still fat --- but I am
SO much better than I was just 4 months ago! It isn't about getting to goal --- its all about getting to LIVE!
And by the way --- special thanks to Matt with his marathon and a half thread a couple of weeks back: I had just about talked myself around to not doing this again, but that thread straightened my thinking out again. Thanks, Matt!
So, maybe its time for you to look around for a different kind of challenge for yourself in the next few weeks or months --- what is something you have always wanted to do, but felt you couldn't because of your weight? My son has already challenged me to try rock climbing for the first time come Labor Day Weekend (which hits both my weight AND my fear of heights!) --- I'm going for it!
