So I went shopping today, feeling so good because I've lost quite a bit, walking better, because I've been doing so much walking that my hips are a lot looser, in my make up and that nice mustard shirt, and a new fleece rather than the old dog-walking one, and looking good in my head. Yes, I know how much more I have to lose.

All was fine. Bought a bed of a cute salesman, then went food shopping.

At the checkout the girl asked if I watched 'Britain's got talent'. (eww no, I hate reality tv)
Oh, she said. There's a Scottish woman on there, you look just like her.

Now that wouldn't have even registered, had I not caught a bit of the national news this morning, where they were talking about this lady who apparently has a marvellous voice but the critics want to have a makeover, and one guy is standing up and saying, leave her alone.

So of course, I had to come home and look. Chickies, I don't know what she's like most of the time and I mean no disrespect -

Sigh sigh sigh. A signal to keep going.

Oh, alidh--hugs to you...I am so very sorry! I know just what you mean. During the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal a woman approached me and told me I looked like Monica! :(

You're not alone. People used to tell me all the time that I looked like Star Jones (before surgery, of course). Ugh. Not exactly who I want to "look like". That's my reminder that I've got a long way to go. I'm not hearing it quite as frequently now, though.

Now give me Tyra Banks and I'd be happy. :)

Hugs!! We saw your pics and you definitely cannot be described as unkempt, untidy, or with ratty hair! That clerk obviously needs her eyes checked. :)

If you want to look at the lady on youtube, her name is Susan Boyle. I've just watched her clip and she has a lovely voice, maybe not that outstanding but the bit about the whole clip that made me cry is that sorry but she looked a frump, by show-biz standards, when she came on, and the cheering was all because they didn't expect a fat woman to be able to sing well.

Hope she wins though!

People used to tell me I looked like Rosie O'Donnell when I was in college, when I have no idea how much I weighed because I was in denial...

Okay -

ONE - you do not look like Susan Boyle.

TWO - WTF is wrong with that checkout girl, the whole point of the story is Susan Boyle is a homely lady with a lovely singing voice (I don't think she looks as awful as the show made her out to be, but the huge national story is "hideous woman sings great!").

How rude! You should call her store and complain, seriously. Talk to her manager, that person needs a reality check about how to talk to customers. That dumb bint needs to stick to generic comments about the WEATHER. I am hopping mad on your behalf!

You know - Monica was a pretty girl. Lovely, thick, glossy dark hair, beautiful hazel eyes, great skin, perfect teeth, good bone structure, beautifully-shaped mouth. I would take the good points of looking like ML and consider it a compliment - maybe you were having a great hair day?

Ok I just looked, yes she has a lovely voice, but I have to say you two do not look alike in the slightest, unless you count the fact that she has brown hair (in which case I guess you and I are identical too!! ;)).

I've watched the youtube video. I do not think that Ms. Boyle looks as awful as you think she does, althought I did not watch any interviews so maybe I missed something.

It is entirely possible that the clerk did not mean to insult you.

I think that what is refreshing about Ms. Boyle is that she is a regular person who got up on a stage where so much energy is focused on people's looks and knocked everyone's socks off with her amazing voice.

The passion on her face when she was singing brought a whole new beauty to her.

Maybe what the clerk said wasn't meant as an insult. And I certainly hope Ms. Boyle is too busy with her blossoming career to read what you wrote about her.

When I was an impressionable and self conscious 16 year old, I was told by the father of a girl I had just placed higher than in an honor band competition that I "am a dead ringer for Rosie O'Donnel".

I agree with midwife. I watched the youtube video earlier this week. I thought that she was a nice size and that just her hair cut made her look a bit frumpy. With a new hair cut and updated dress, I think she may be quite lovely. I did not notice the double chin until I saw her picture on CNN and think that it have been influenced by how she held her head, lighting, etc. The clerk may not have meant to insult you at all!

Totally agree. I saw her interview this morning and was absolutely floored at how incredibly sweet and composed she was with all the attention. She gives off such a good vibe.

Edit: I think people are somewhat blown away in relation to her looks because A) she's not camera ready, and frankly, neither are any one of us and B) she's a *tad* older than the usual crop of young hotties that typically end up on reality/talent shows.

I know she didn't mean to insult me, that was my point. She meant to be nice, I didn't like the comparison.
