Question How fast was your loss at first?

I know weight loss is pretty fast in the beginning, but I'm curious to know how much and how fast it came off at first and when did it start leveling out?

None of my weight loss has been consistent, number wise When I first started I was losing about 3-5 pounds a week. Now it's more like 0-2lbs a week...there is just no telling what my body will do next! I lost 100 pounds in 10 months so it averages to 10lbs a month.

I have been very slow and steady. I could be working a lot harder and see a faster result, I know it in my heart of hearts.

Lightbulb I have heard ....

... that it depends on how much weight you have to lose, where you carry the weight (hips and lower vs belly fat) and whether you are active or not.

Not always!

All of my life, weight loss was fastest in the beginning, in part because I set myself up to either be perfect or to fail completely (so I would be perfect until I couldn't stand it, and then I'd fail completely, by throwing myself under the metaphorical bus).

I would always try to figure out how I could forecast how much I would or might lose, and then get discouraged when I never quite got the results I was hoping for.

I've finally learned there are other options, and what's worked for me is turning the sterotypical, traditional dieting process on it's head.

Instead of trying to find the way to lose the fastest way possible, I decided to consider what I saw myself being able to accomplish and continue for a lifetime. If it didn't seem doable forever, it wasn't worth attempting.

The more I accomplish, the more I see myself being able to accomplish. The more I attempt, the more I'm willing to attempt - so my weight loss is probably going to be stable or even fastest at the end, rather than the beginning, but regardless I really caution you against focusing on the speed of weight loss. It's a trap that tempts you into considering crazy, unsustainable, and even dangerous methods of weight loss.

My first two weeks were at 7 lbs each. I'm into my third week now, and I've lost nothing. But from what I've read, much of what you lose the first few weeks is water, and you gain it back later. So I guess it'll balance out.

Kaplods,

I'm not focusing on the speed. I don't care if it takes me 5 years. I'm concerned. I have lost 17 pounds in 12 days, and as weird as it may sound, I am sort of wishing it would level off. I don't want to get used to seeing the scale move that quickly because I know it is not sustainable. I'm also hesitant to tell people how much I've lost because of it. I've gone over and over my food journal, and my exercise journal and I'm getting plenty of calories from lots of good foods, my energy is fine (for a mom with a toddler at least..lol), so I'm just trying to see how long it was before other people saw the loss start leveling out. I should have explained more in my post, but as I said I'm a little hesitant about telling people how much I've lost and how quickly.

If you are doing everything you are supposed to be doing then your body will level off at some point. I dunno what you are doing but if you are a calorie counter maybe up your daily calories

I lost 20.5 lbs my first two weeks back on Atkins, but that's typical because during induction most people lose 10% of what they are capable of losing overall.

I lost 60 lbs in the first 3 months, then another 40 lbs the second 3 months. My weight loss has stalled completely since the 6-month mark, but I am still losing inches, so I'm not stressing about it.

Don't be too concerned yet. Sit back and enjoy it, it will level off!

I lost 22 lbs in the first 2.5 weeks... and 31 in the first month and a half... then it started to slow but I have consistently lost 3 lbs a week (average) since then and am on my way to losing almost 100 lbs in 6 months.

I lost ten pounds a month in the beginning. Once I got below 200 pounds it dropped to 6-8 pounds per month. When I hit 170 it slowed to 3 pounds a month. I'm glad you asked this, it made me go and look at my tracker on the daily plate. It's nice to see that my loss wasn't as excruciatingly slow as it seemed. I learned to not worry too much about the scale. It seems to make no sense sometimes. As long as your calories are in a healthy range I wouldn't worry. Just be prepared for the weight loss to slow down when you get smaller. If you are prepared for it then it won't derail you.

I lost more than a pound per week in the first month, the second month it started slowing down a bit.

As Ever

Cfmama and H8cake, what diets are you on? I have to drop 123lbs and I know this is a daunting task, but I am on my own diet. How did you guys do it?
