Need to brag

  • This has nothing to do with weightloss but I'm excited so I need to share. I just started my job full-time in middle of February as a microbiologist for the city's water plant. The lady who was the microbiologist took over the chemist job but the went on on extended sick leave because she has cancer so I had no real guidance in my lab. Right now it's just me and my supervisor working. Well I had to do a performance evaluation to keep our lab certified by the state and it scared me to death, I had never done this kind of testing before and there was....A LOT OF PRESSURE from the big wheels. Well I got my results back yesterday and I needed to get 8 out of 10 right on both sets to stay certified and I got all 10 right on both GO ME!!!!

  • congrats!!!!!

    what exactly is a microbiologist?
  • Ok I get to play with the wonderful bacteria in our lake water like E. coli. Sounds exciting huh?....lol
  • actualy it does sound interesting and fun ive always been fascinated with all things science
  • ROCK ON...KIM!!!
  • WOO-HOO! You're awesome
  • yippee yahoo for you!!!!!!

and just to be sure your boss remembers this around raise time [some of them have such SHORT memories!!!] there are a few things you can do

like, ask your boss while they're still hootin and hollerin to put a letter in your personnel file

or keep a notebook on your own and record all the great stuff you do. at review time, haul it out and remind your boss.

no, you don't sit there and say 'i'm wonderful,' no matter how true it is. it's something like 'review time is a great chance to take a look at what i've done during the year, and see what was good, and what i'd like to improve.' and THEN you just focus on the good stuff, but you DO have to prepare one or two items you'd like to improve on, because someone will ask.

and then, they'll be so impressed with all the thought that you've given the process, that they'll give you more responsibilities.. hmmm maybe this could backfire!!

sorry for the 'lecture,' but i sure want to see all your wonderful work result in $$$$$$. and it's so easy for the world to think we're not worth the money because of our weight!!

lab certification is a BIG deal, especially for someone new.
  • Beautiful and brilliant! The best combination going.
I am sure your boss will thank his lucky stars that he hired you!
