Default Changing Mindless Eating Habits in MAY thread..

Ok. So every month I'm going to try to start three new small but effective habits to make me more concious about what I am eating, and how full I am. This is coming from the "Mindless Eating" book and their website http://www.mindlesseating.org/ and the National Mindless Eating Challenge. (feel free to join if you wish, it's FREE!)

If anyone else wants to try this with me, feel free to pick your own small but effective changes to make, and we can track our progress month by month here!

MAY GOALS:

1. Put fork and knife down between bites!
2. Eat veggies and/or salad FIRST before any starches or proteins.
3. Use standard silverware as serving utensils rather than the normal "Family Style" serving ware.

Hoping for these results: Limit portions, Fill up on the good stuff, Eat slower so I can tell when I'm full and not overstuff myself!!

I've been reading the "Four Day Win" which has a very strong mind connection. The things I've been doing that have helped have been:

-- Take a couple of slow breaths as I sit down to eat, and slip into a "Watcher" awareness (rather than the Wild Child who is hungry and wants to wolf it all down and then some, or the Disciplinarian who tries to impose the diet rules and holds the whip over the Wild Child)

-- Eat until I am satisfied rather than until I'm full.

-- Leave food on my plate (this one is REALLY hard to practice at times)

This site was really interesting, thanks. I don't know if I could do it though, because I am not good at sticking to things. I did sign up and asked for weekly reminders to my email though. I promised not to eat much junk food( this is a biggy for me, but I have none in the house so that is more helpful), I also promised not to cook so much meat( this is hard because my husband loves meat, and a meal is not a meal with out meat), and eat more veggies( I love fruit, but veggies is a hard one for me, I usually only eat salads for veggies, I did have some steamed broccoli yesterday and am going to steam some spinach today or tomorrow ,so I am trying). I also said exercise would be ok, unless I get my period. The first 3 days of my period are really painful and I usually don't exercise, I am going to try and exercise, even if it is only half of what I do. . cheryl
