Unhappy Day 1 Scale Shock

So - I did it..... I made the commitment to get back on track today!! I bought lots of healthy foods.... cleaned out the junk...... and, of course, ate too much this weekend.

What I was not prepared for was the number on the scale this morning. YIKES!!!!

But - on a positive note - it did not send me straight to dunkin donuts.....

My husband & I said that this would be our last "Day 1", and that we're going to stick with it.... but boy its so overwhelming to think about exactly how far I have to go!!!

And with all these thoughts in my mind right now - I am so glad I have somewhere to share them!!

thank you

Hi Beth!

You can do this! The first few weeks are tough as you get into the changes that we all have to make if we are going to LOSE the pounds and GAIN the health!

It's good that your husband is going on the journey with you. That will help you both to have a partner in your weight loss.

Take what the scale says and go forward. Remember to record your body measurements all over you so that you can compare NOW with the FUTURE sizes you both will be. You can lose inches even when the scale refuses to budge! It happens to me all the time. The secret there is to exercise so that you firm up those body parts. VOILA! Smaller body that fits into smaller clothing!

Good Luck!

Stay positive! Relax! BREATHE!!!! This is a MARATHON and NOT a SPRINT!!!

Hi Beth. When I started, I had no change the first week and a gain the second week. But, now it is headed the right direction. So hang in there! You've got it going now!

Beth, You *can* do this! Having hubby on board is a definite plus. I started right around where you are and it is certainly daunting to look at what we have to lose....so I suggest that you *don't* look at the total amount you want to lose. Focus on getting healthy, eating less and moving more. If you like goals, set reasonable ones. My first goal is 60 lbs lost...which will bring me under 300 lbs. Remember, there will be speedbumps, but they don't need to keep us from our goal.

I wish you the best of luck on your journey...you have already taken the hardest step!!

Welcome! You started at almost the exact weight as myself. You can do it. Take one step at a time and work on improvement, not perfection

Oh for sure you can do this. I know for me the most important thing was just changing my habits. That's how I looked at it. I knew if I ate right and exercised that the weight would come off in time. I had wasted so much time already that the time needed to lose all the weight didn't scare me all that much. The important thing is to start making those changes and before you know it 1 month will be gone, and some pounds, and then 2 months and some more pounds and on and on. And before you know the numbers aren't so bad. Not so bad at all. Good luck.

One day at a time..we hear it all the time, but it is so very true. Committ to making at least one small change each day....no sugar, more veggies, more water, etc. These little changes add up to big results quickly. You can do this!

Thank you all soooooo much!!! I appreciate the tips & motivation so much. Its nice to not feel so alone in this. And even though my hubby is 100% behind me - its not the same. He can work out for like an hour - and burn 1000 calories!! Men!!! (hahahaha)

The day is 3/4 over - and I've made it this far... plus a good plan for the evening. And when I wake up tomorrow, the dreadful "Day 1" will be behind me - woohoo!

Welcome! Boy I remember the scale shock when I weighed for the first time in 11+- years. I had no idea what I weighed - right about the same as your beginning weight as it turns out. Finally after years of watching my weight go up up up, I discovered that it really is as simple as everyone says it is. Eat less and move more, amazingly simple once you do it and stick with it. Stay with us and it will work for you too.
