I hate talking about this kind of stuff, but does anyone else have the horrible skin tags? I have several of them around my neck and I hate them. Is there any way to get rid of them and are they prevelant in overweight people?
I have a few of them myself, though not many. A couple around my neck. And one under my arm. I really don't know whether or not being overweight/obese has anything to do with it.
If they bother you I think a dermatologist would be the person to speak to about them.
I had one once..and I agree with you...it made me so nuts that I took it off MYSELF!!!!
I didn't know what it was at the time, and I got it at the base with pointy tweezers and took it off. Yes...it hurt, but it never came back, and I haven't had one since.
Sorry if that's TMI
I'd talk to your doctor...they're supposedly really easy to remove.
I have a couple also, mine are small and don't really bother me. I ditto Robin, see a good dermatologist. They can get them off if they are really bothering you.

Lake Girl...
I had a bunch of skin tags on my neck that I had frozen off by my doctor about 7 or 8 years ago. I've noticed a few trying to come back. If they really bother you, you might ask your doctor about freezing. The procedure is simple..they apply liquid nitrogen to each tag and they just drop off in a few days. Just a few minutes in the doctor's office is all it takes.
I had a few skin tags removed by my regular family doc. She just cut them off. Insurance did cover it. Also, they are more prevalant in people with PCOS. So if you have PCOS, that could be why you are getting them.
I've gotten aggrivated enough a couple of times to take them off myself, but be warned when you do that it DOES HURT, and they do bleed quite a bit. I've also had them frozen in the doctors office once. It was covered by my insurance, I only paid my normal $10 office co-pay. Oh, and there was no pain or blood when they were frozen off!
As far as being related to obesity....I have no facts to support this, but my thoughts say yes. I never had them AT ALL before getting so large, and I haven't had any since my weight has gone down. The doctor did tell me once that you will get them where "something rubs" whether it be a necklace, or the most common neckline you wear, where your bra rubs, or under your arms where the seam from your shirt sleeves rub.
I've had a few removed by my doctor - unfortunately, my plan didn't cover it so I haven't gone back as additional tags have appeared. I did try to remove a couple more of them myself a few of months ago because I'd seen so many posts about them being simple to snip off...but that was when I discovered that I was a baby and I only managed to get rid of one of them!
Are those things a drag! I've read that skin tags are an external sign of hormonal issues in your body. In addition to PCOS, skin tags can also be sign of insulin resistance which can lead to diabetes. My Grandma's back and neck was covered with them. She was never overweight, but she had diabetes.
Skin tags are easily removed in the doctor's office, however, not all insurances will cover this procedure.
Like Linda.. I just took it off myself. It hurt a little.. bleed a little, but no more then a scab. It was no big deal and it didn't grow back. I only had one.
i have some... on my neck and such... i hate them I keep meaning to have them removed. I never knew they were a sign of PCOS... time to call the doc... that could explain the major effort i need to lose weight...
