Default Trail Mix

I want to try to make a healthy homemade trail mix. What would be in yours? Do you have any recipes?

For the first time this morning I made puppy chow with the kids (imagine powder sugar - everywhere) I did try some.. and boy was it goooood! Then I put it away. I made little baggies for the oldest to give some to his friends too.

But for me.. I thought - there must be a healthy trail mix.

I mix nuts and raisins for my trail mix. I like unsalted nuts so I'll try to buy them in bulk or at Costco. I've also bought nuts online. I then mix in some raisins and I have trail mix. It is a bit high calorie though so I generally only eat it if I'm going on a hike. I used to snack on it during the day but I couldn't control myself too well.

That is also a "redlight" food for me. I love dried fruits and nuts. I limit myself to just the nuts, and only once a day right now.

Hungry Girl has a trail mix recipe that's only 105 calories per cup (as compared to 693 for the regular stuff ): Trail Mix

Just an FYI - those gerber treats are nasty. (IMO) They are very bland and the fruity things taste very chemical. (I haven't had them in a year or so, I tried them when I bought them for the kiddies here - YUCK) I would pass on those items in the recipe.

On the other hand.....that is a very cool site!!

Thanks for the web site... that mix looks really good. My almost 2 year old loves those gerber fruit things. As a treat I would mix in a very small amount of craisins too
