Evening,
Hope you had a nice day! I am in a better mood now. I went to TOPS this evening and lost 1 1/2 pounds. Now I hope that I can keep up the losing game this time. I need to start excersing again. Hope that will come back here in the next couple of days.
Well hope you all have a great hump day!
Chat with you later,
Kerry

Kerry::cheer :
YOU GO GIRL!!!

Mermaid: I hope all of your extremities are less swollen and bruised today. Feel better. Soak up whatever is left of SUMMER.

I'm in a holding pattern. I'm desperately trying to cling to the last days of summer. I'm already noticing the subtle changes...my pool is cold because of the cold stormy days last week and the cooler nights. Many people love the hot days and cool nights for sleeping, but for me it is the unmistakable sign of fall. DD has a playdate in our pool today, mani/pedis with my BFF and I tomorrow, and a High School Musical 2 sleepover party Friday night at our house. But next week, everyone has last minute stuff to do before school begins. I hate the last two weeks of August. You can't really enjoy the weather and time off because of what is lurking around the corner. I don't really like my class till Halloween. It takes about that long to take them from helpless badly behaved babies and make them into cooperative semi-independent students. September is ****. So, diet and exercise is of no interest to me right now as I try to suck every last bit of summer out of the next week.

I've had a very productive summer. I've had time to work on friendships and in the process, it looks like one of them is over (the incommunicato one). I have a brand new friendship that will hopefully grow and last. I got to go spend some family time at some great beachy locales. I told my sister off. I got some projects accomplished and got appointments out of the way. Really except for not losing weight, I've had a great summer. There isn't much left to do this summer, just a couple items left on my list. Now that my June paycheck is just about gone, I need to go back to school and get paid again. It is all just a bit sad to say, "Goodbye summer." I don't think I'd mind it if the frigid winter months could be avoided...

Kerry, what did your dh say to his son when he spoke to you in that manner? Congratulations on your loss this week! Great job! Keep it up!

Summerrr, yes, the end of summer and September are NOT my favorite times of year. There is sooooooo much work and soooooooo many headaches. I feel your pain! I too get horribly depressed during these last few days. To the point of doing NOTHING...sort of the calm before the storm! Glad that you have a few more fun "things" scheduled for these last few days! My guys are talking about the end of summer and how bummed they are too.... yeah, they will miss staying up til all hours and sleeping 1/2 the day away!

So....Today is Wednesday. Next Thursday I will be spending the day at the hospital with my father as my mother has both knees replaced.... Next Friday, I will be back at school. I've spent Monday and Tuesday somewhere between freaking out and pretending that I don't know these things. Today is our Saturday, my dh is off we've spent lots of time together this morning.... it has been very nice. We are now at our respective computers! Tonight I have a Band Boosters Board meeting at the High School. I have agreed to take a bigger but not HUGE role on this board....mainly so that I can get all the information 1st hand and not from the mouth of my kid or thru general meetings..... Hope this wasn't a mistake! My toe still is a bit painful and a lovely shade of purple...like my fingernail but it isn't broken. I told you I was being a baby! It hurt really, really, REALLY bad! Sort of like when Fred Flintstone hits his thumb with a hammer and it physically throbs bad! )

Enough from me.....
Hope you all have a good day!
Take care,
meee

Mermaid: No you didn't, silly! Yesterday was a full one for me, and I didn't have time to post.

I had my annual with my allergy/asthma specialist, and because of a med change, I had to do a pharmacy run. By the way, every lunatic was on the road yesterday. I was merging on the highway behind a teenaged girl, and we were wide open going at about 50 mph when the bimbo came to a complete stop!!! GEEZ!!! I slammed on the brakes, turned my wheel to avoid hitting her, while simultaneously leaning on the horn. God was with us, because I managed to avoid hitting her. This is why it is against the law to drive while talking on your cell phone in CT. You cannot look away for a split second because the morons around you are so unpredictable. Poor DD freaked...it's only 8 months since we had an awful accident with an elderly man (missing some of his fingers) who crashed into us because he gunned his engine instead of hitting the brakes. It was a hit and run. About 1/4 of a mile down the road, he realized that he had had a car accident and backed up all the way on the main road to the scene of the accident to ask me if he had done this. By the grace of God, we had safe travel in spite of some horrible drivers all day long. In the afternoon, DD and I met my BFF, her Godmother, and BFF and I had pedicures while DD had a manicure. It was fun except for the moments it occurred to me that I had no business wasting money like that when I'm not even sure how I'm gonna make it till I go back to school and get paid again. At least I'm holding off on getting my hair cut and highlighted again till things are better. Luckily, I'm a natural blonde, so all my time in the sun this summer gave me some natural highlights. Anyway, BFF came over our house afterward, and we chatted for a couple of hours. It wasn't warm enough to swim in the pool...low 70's and cold pool water. You know dam* well that as soon as I get back to school and the pool is taken down it will be 90 degrees again!!! Whatev.

Soon, I have to go get my annual mammo. I'm overdue because when I called to schedule my appointment, some bimbo told me I wasn't due yet. Well, she read the year incorrectly, and now I'm not just due, I'm overdue by several months. If I hadn't gone to my GYN earlier in the week, I'd never have known.

DD is having a sleepover at our house to celebrate the premiere of High School Musical 2. So, she has to clean her bedroom and playroom. I'm gonna bake chocolate chip cookies for the girls, and my DH will make homemade pizza for dinner.

She's reading right now. She reads every day for an hour to meet her chapter book quota for the summer...a minimum of 30 books! She is only halfway there, and she doesn't understand that unless she doubles her time, she probably won't meet the minimum goal. It is my fault, because I let her just work on her math packet in the beginning of the summer, and I didn't start making her read till mid July. Between the thick math packet, the reading packet, and the book list, I am disgusted. Yes, I'm a teacher, and I don't want to see her lose her skills. But come on! It is summer. We could have made better use of her time off practicing her multiplication tables and reading at a leisurely pace. She loves books, but being forced to read so many books has made reading a chore. I HATE NCLB!!!! I hate my child being pressured like this.

Gotta go shower and try to remember to not apply deodorant! Pancake time...OUCH!!!

Evening Ladies,
Sorry I went into hiding yesterday. We had went to our bank asking for a loan to pay off some bills and to get gas for our rental house for this winter. They turned us down. So I got really depressed and tried to sleep all day. My dh was the strong one through all of this disappointing news. He tried to cheer me up. Then today I went with my mil, nephew and his girlfriend to the mall so he could get his school clothes. I had to drive my mil's Ford Tempo. Let me tell you that think is small after being used to driving mini-vans and a F150 truck. I was stressed out by the time we got home from being so low to the ground. LOL I also got my TOM visitor tonight too. So I am hoping that I can stay away from food and not stress eat. I haven't done it yet. So I hope I can keep it that way.
Summer how was your doctor's appointment today? I thought of you and hope things went well for you. Sounds like you had a fun day yesterday despite the idiots out driving. I am like you can't wait for that first paycheck after school starts. I get a pay raise and will be able to get me some new shoes for school. Hope you are enjoying your sleepover guests. Homemade chocolate chip cookies and pizza sounds yummy.
Miss Mermaid, he told him not to treat me like that. But it didn't seem to faze the little booger. So I let him have it yesterday afternoon when he tried pulling the same stunt again. I called him the youngest male chavinist (sp) pig I had ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was like I didn't know I treated you that way. I will try to be nicer to you in the future. So far he has went out of his way to be nice to me. So how was your Band Boosters meeting the other night?
Ginger hope you are enjoying your vacation. We miss you!
Well I think I am going to try and relax a little bit by reading a romance book called Surviving Demon Island. Today is going to be busy with delievering Avon orders and having to go to the hs football scrimmage tomorrow evening. Plus we will have the kids tomorrow evening and all day Sunday. We were suppose to have them this evening and told their mom that she could keep them to take them school clothes shopping tomorrow morning and afternoon. She wanted to wait until Monday the day before school when everything is picked over. That lady gets lazier and lazier. I just hope that the kids realize when they grow up who was really there for them.
Take care and have a wonderful weekend!

The sleepover went well. DD's friend is a flaky one though. When her mom dropped her off, she told me that she was a little hurt because they had plans to have a girls' night watching High School Musical 2, but as soon as my DD invited her DD to sleep over, her DD dropped her like a hot potato. You know, DD loves to sleep over her friends' houses, but she would have told her friend that she already had plans if the situation were reversed. I realize the day may come that I get left in the dust, but thank God, we're not there just yet! I hope DD will continue to honor her commitments to people. DH made homemade pizza, and DD's friend took one bite of each slice of pizza not finishing either. What a waste. The three of us watched the movie in the playroom, and it was great. The girls did each others' nails and ate ice cream, chocolate chip cookies, cheese balls, and soda. DD's friend took a taste of everything but finished nothing. I guess her eyes are bigger than her tummy. I got them to go to bed around 11pm. They talked till midnight, and right when it seemed they would fall asleep, we had a VERY LOUD thunderstorm. They were up around 9am. DH bought sausage and bacon for breakfast. Everyone wanted bacon, so I skipped on the sausage. After making the bacon, DD's friend informed me that she doesn't eat bacon. She ate a couple bites of pancakes. I'm so glad I don't have to feed this child on a regular basis. She takes huge servings and eats like a bird. DD only takes what she can handle, but I guess that comes from me being so into portion control. The girls asked if her friend could stay till noon so they could watch a show about a sleepover. I called the father, and explained what they wanted, but when DD's friend got on the phone and remembered that they were having a tag sale, she told him she wanted to come home early. DD was so disappointed. We need to accept that her friend changes her mind as quickly and often as New England weather. She is a fickle kid. She has always been unreliable and last fall was not a loyal friend. When the friendship started again in the spring, I went along with it with my eyes wide open. Their teacher purposely separated them giving them different teachers for the coming year. DD is not happy about that, but I'm thrilled. I'd rather she hang out with her more dependable friends.

In the afternoon, we went to the town's used bookstore and got a bunch of books. I'm so excited that I found a brand spanking new paperback copy of Janet Evanovich's Motor Mouth! And, I paid the used price for it. I've been watching it on Amazon, but the price has been high plus shipping.

Next we arranged for DD's flute rental for the fall. She played recorder last year, and this year, band begins. It should be interesting...certainly not cheap!

DH and I spent the rest of the day swimming and reading in the sun. The pool is still cold, but I'm forcing myself since my summer days are dwindling. Today, I plan to do the same.

Have a great day!

Summer glad you survived the sleepover. Don't you just love fickle little children. Just kidding. That is like the boys have a few friends that I have told my dh we are never having over to our house again. They are such trouble be it behavior or personality wise. The only kid I like is the neighbor boy who minds and tries to teach my two stepsons to behave. Glad you found some books that you like. Enjoy your swimming.
Miss Mermaid how are you feeling today? I hope you are all healed up.
We had my dh's family reunion today. I hope I did eat okay. I don't know if I did or not. It is that tom and I tried to be good. Forgot to bring something to drink and had to drink a pepsi. Now I am really thirst. I have been downing water like crazy. Maybe that will help flush out the food I ate. LOL
I think I am going to get comfortable in the arm chair and read for a little bit. If I fall asleep that is good too. Since my days of freedom are coming to a screeching halt.
Have a great afternoon!

Unhappy

So much for sunning and swimming. The clouds arrived and dropped the temperatures. I decided to get some bulletin board stuff done, so I made a giant crayon box out of a paper bag. I made it slimmer by cutting it on the sides, fitting it together, and taping it. Then I took DD's Crayola box and duplicated it onto the paper bag. Surprisingly, it looks quite real! I made a template for a giant crayon. I'm gonna cut out 18 crayons with different colors of construction paper and write my students' first names on them. The title will be, "Welcome To The Pack!" Corny, huh? I couldn't come up with any new ideas, and all the ideas online were overused. So, I went to Teachersparadise.com and used this idea. When I first started teaching, I was so gung ho over bulletin boards. Now they are a pain in my a**. Today the temperature is 62 degrees with rain on the way. What, is it April?! Tomorrow is going to be cold and rainy too. So, even though I planned to go to school Thursday and Friday, I'm going to school today...AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH...the summer spell is about to be broken...but I have to go this week and may as well go when it is crappy outside. Maybe I'll be lucky and Nimrod (my custodian) won't have destroyed my room over the summer, and I can just drop off some things, pick up some things, and leave. If Nimrod has left my room alone, there is very little to do, just the bulletin board. The "back to school letter" can easily be done at home in my nightgown. In the past, I've always come back to various stages of chaos. So, I must gird my loins and be ready for anything. Today's goal is to get lots of construction paper, my class list, and get the h*ll out! I bribed DD with McDonald's for lunch. We haven't eaten there since April vacation, so she's waited long enough.

I'm not in the WW zone right now...wonder why? But, I know I will begin when I get my first paycheck. I'm gonna have to sign up again. I really can't do it on my own. I've had optimum conditions this summer and failed miserably. But, I do not have the money till I get paid. So, I'm indulging right now. Unfortunately, DH IS gung ho having just come off a bad doctor's appointment. He wants to get healthy. Congratulations, but give me two more weeks please, and I'll join you. He's not waiting. He's nagging. He's pointing out portions. He's getting on my last nerve! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did I nag him when he ate like it was his last days on earth? No. I mind my own business. He doesn't learn by example. It doesn't help that he likes to watch "Hogan Knows Best," and he compares himself to the Hulk and me to Linda. Linda is trying to lose weight, and her DH is training her. Back away with the barbells buddy if you know what's good for ya! Don't try to change me. I got this.

Afternoon Ladies,
Just got home a little bit ago from my staff inservice at my new school. I think I am going to like working in a brand new building. The staff seem like they are all fun and nice people. No little gangs like at my old school. My new classroom is wonderful. It is two time bigger than my old tin box of a room. I have storage and lots of it. Plus I have my own bathroom in my classroom. With a changing table and shower. Then I will have a washer and dryer to teach my kids laundry skills. Plus I will have a stove, microwave and fridge. So it will be nice to actually get to teach my kids life skills.
Summer how was your trip to your classroom yesterday. I love your bb idea. That is a very cute one! Hope you got to go into your room and it is not a big mess.
Miss Mermaid how is life treating you? I hope good.
Ginger are you back from vacation yet. We miss you. Can't wait to chat with you soon.
Well I have my TOPS meeting tonight. I am hoping for a loss. But with it being that TOM don't know if that will happen or not. Then we are having a get together for the end of the summer dinner. Hope I don't over do it.
Chat with you all later.

I lost a pound tonight at TOPS. So I am very happy with two weeks in a row of having a loss. Let's see if I can make it three weeks in a row. Hope your evenings are going well for you.

Kerry: I'm so proud of you!!! I wish I was more of an inspiration. As you know, I'm not motivated right now. I have a plan after I get paid again, but in the meantime, I'm not holding up my end. So, KUDOS to you for being so successful during a stressful time of year!
Mermaid & Ginny: Hola, Que Tal?

Well, guess what? Nimrod did dismantle my classroom. Fortunately, I was able to move everything back into place in a couple of hours. But, unfortunately, I'm missing some important items. In October, I do a month of Fire Safety. I have a wooden firehouse complete with the pole, beautiful wooden firetrucks, an ambulance, and miniature firefighters. Well, the vehicles and some of the firefighters are missing!!! I searched the classroom while I was putting it back together, and they are just plain gone. And to make it worse, nothing will be done about it by the principal. I will have to wait till I get another grant and order brand new. My grant money doesn't come in until March, so for this October, I'm screwed. The firehouse is nice, but with only 3 tiny firefighters left and no trucks, it won't be a great center. And, I hate that someone stole from me. It is no real shock, just really disappointing.

I unpacked all my new cots and stacked them in a corner. The trick will be finding space in the room to set them up for napping. I've never done full-day pre-K before, so napping has never been an issue before. I can't get the room dark because my blinds don't go all the way down. I will end up having to attach dark paper to the bottom of the blinds. The other issue is my secretary with the Long Island accent and BIG MOUTH who makes announcements throughout the day not only interrupting instruction, but now will be interrupting nap time. Thankfully, she will not be going with us to the new school 2008/2009, so this is my last year with that lunatic...and come to think of it, my last year with Nimrod too!!! They'll NEVER give him a big school!!!

My bulletin board is up, and I must say...CUTE!!! I used a black background, and used jumbo white chalk to write the title, "Welcome To The Pack!" Which, by the way, looks quite cool! My giant pop-out crayon box with giant 3-D crayons inside is in the center of the bulletin board. Then all the multicolored crayons with the kids names on them surround the crayon box. The bright crayon colors really POP! against the black background. I even got a compliment from a colleague who is openly jealous and hostile toward me. Long summer...she got caught off guard and acted like a normal person!!! I must say, this is my best "Back to School" bulletin board ever. It was worth the work, and if it isn't destroyed by the kids in the hallway, I will be sure to save the pieces for next year.

After some last minute adjustments, I have a full class of 18 with a waiting list of 3. Last year at this time, I was very low in registration numbers which ultimately led me to have to bump the teacher at the other school and travel midday teaching at two schools and having a HORRIBLE YEAR. This year is soooooo much better just because I am full and don't have to travel. I'm full because I'm providing full-day which is what parents want and need. Most of my parents are the "working poor," and can't afford to pay for daycare, so my program is a blessing for them. There is talk about opening a second pre-K in my building to accomodate my waitlist kids. Unless they have a bunch of kids that I don't know about, I don't get how they will open a new class for 3 kids. I hope they don't recruit from my colleagues around the city who are teaching part-day, because I don't want them to have to close their program because of this. I wouldn't be the teacher, but somehow, I will be blamed. The other issue is that either 1. I will have to mentor this teacher and take away time from my job to help her with hers. or worse 2. I will have to work with another veteran who second guesses me. Next year, I will be in this situation because the new school will be housing 2 of every grade, pre-K - 8. But, I was hoping for one more year alone without daily interference. I'll have to wait and see.

It is 63 degrees and the clouds are thick...no hope of sun anytime soon. My poor pool must be FREEZING! The next time it is supposed to be hot, dry, and sunny is my first day back to school. DD is having friends over today and tomorrow to keep her busy while I do household chores. At least my classroom is mostly ready.

Hey ya'll! We've been having HORRIBLE storms for the last two days off and on... Every evening as I sit down to post here, the thunder and lightning begin. Monday was spent hanging out in the tire store as they checked my new tires that are leaking (nothing is wrong with them... they think that someone is messing with them at night. Um, NOOOOO not with our dog!) Tuesday was spent returning the oldest kid's new band pants, getting a pair that are long enough, finishing school supply shopping, grocery shopping. (It is beginning to thunder, I can't believe this!) I have also been running to and from the high school taking the kid to band. Today I am cleaning out my bedroom closet, laundry, washing the dog and I must get that kitchen floor done. Tomorrow is my mother's surgery so I will be gone from 4 am until who knows... Friday I must return to work. It will be good to get the big huge pile of stuff that I've been collecting for school out of the corner of the living room! I'm actually very calm about tomorrow AND Friday. Que sara, sara! This IS the 20th time that I've returned to my 1st grade classroom. Perhaps finally something good comes with my old age.... experience and a :: shoulders sort of attitude regarding getting my panties in a twitch over ME starting school. NOW, my boys starting, now THAT has my panties TIGHTLY TWITCHED and I'm a bit freaked out over THAT topic!

Kerry, congratulations on your progress at TOPS! You are doing so well with it! Also, congratulations on the new classroom! Sounds like lots of wonderful items that will be so very useful with your students! Tell me again, about your students. What classification do your students have?! Grade? Middle school, right?

Summerrrr, it wouldn't be back to school with out a Nimrod story! However, the missing firefighters and fire truck would make me crazy! In fact, it reminds me of the summer, that my big huge RED wooden puppet stage simply disappeared. I searched each and every room for the thing. No teachers had seen it. The custodians all sort of "yeah, I remember seeing it... What? It wasn't returned to your room? Hmmmmm...no don't know where we put it." The only silver lining was... I hated, hated, hated that thing! I only had it because a dear friend had given it to me... and she loved it... the kids always would argue and the puppets would even end up fighting... HOWEVER, it was MINE to throw out...or share...NOT the custodians! (That was my old school!) Oh and about a new or old teacher coming to your school to teach the other PreK class... perhaps she will be like me... I had 17 years in 1st grade when I moved to my new school.... I was assigned immediately to be a 5th grade beginning teacher's mentor, I also would like to add that I didn't second guess the 1st grade team that I joined but that I added my own ideas, perspective and experience to their collective. It was VERY difficult to join "an already in progress" team who were very close and were very nervous about adding me. 4 years later, I belong at the school and have been assimilated ....... the team DOES do somethings that I brought to them.... but I didn't force them to! I'm trying to help... and hope this doesn't sound like some sort of lecture.. Please know how I mean these comments! ARGGGH! darn computer... enough!

Ginger, Ginger, Ginger.... where is our Ginger... still shaking the sand out of your clothing and hair?! I'm a bit concerned about your trip knowing how the weather was.... please check in soon!

Alright...back to the closet.... yipeee!
DH has today off....and he has given me THAT look... while looking at the big huge mess in the bedroom... He just mentioned the weather... he is so worried about the computer during storms...and well, we did lose one once... so BYE!

take care!

Red face

Mermaid: You and your mother will be on my mind tomorrow. I will pray that she does well. As far as school starting, you've got it under control. The boys starting? PRAY and let it go. They are in His hands.

I like your take on this potential new pre-k teacher, and if she is like that, she will be welcomed with open arms. I started at this school 5 years ago, and it took a long time for me to get accepted...last year was the real breakthrough! I, however, have welcomed any newbies wholeheartedly. I'm just so used to major EGOs competing rather than focusing on teamwork. One of the K teachers and I work well together, and I'm trying to talk her into pursuing the position. I wouldn't mind a newbie except it seems like the people Early Childhood has hired and I've mentored have had maybe one or two more brain cells than Nimrod if they were lucky. I've actually been asked to write lesson plans for one of them...she eventually was fired, but in the meantime, it was ridiculous how incompetent she was. I will surely let you know if I get a gem like you.
