Two responses I found to someone asking a question about toning her butt and thighs with squats on another website:

"i do three sets of 20 reps with a 12lb weight. I saw results within a couple of weeks. The more reps the more tone your thighs and butt will get"

"Remember...light weight and tons of reps give tone...heavy weight and little reps gives bulk. Also, STRETCH! I can't stress that enough. No stretching means your muscles rebuild bunched up which means BULK when you want lean!"

The women giving the answers were professed gym rats, exercise all the time according to their posts. They were both very trim according to their pictures, and interestingly both in their early 20s and self professed as naturally thin. A third woman suggested gradually increasing weights with the squats and was poo-pood by the other posters, saying the woman asking the question didn't want to be He-Man. The third woman had lost a good bit of weight over the last few years and in her picture looked really great, trim and fit, was 46 and looked better to me than the 24 year old woman with the 'bunched muscles' answer.

This thread was two weeks old and the OP had already stated that she was giving up those exercises as she didn't look 'toned' after two weeks of squats and they were boring to do over and over. I sent her some of the lower body exercises I got from this forum. Don't have a report back on how those are going, I'll be interested to see.

Michelle O looks great. Definitely an inspiration to me.

And I agree with the poster that said "there is no 'jogging' - either you're running or not". I never understood jogging - maybe running at a slower pace, not sprinting, but NEVER jogging.

The "jog" is an awesome correlation! Since this thread has been so much fun, you all deserve a little reward. Funny enough, it's right in line with our discussion. I think this is serious. I think. But how can it be?? Judge for yourselves.

LOL...I am out there pounding the pavement at 5:30 in the morning 5-6 days every week--come hail or high water--I am there. NO WAY--I don't jog--I run, perhaps slower at times, but I RUN!

I think she looks great whether she lifts, tones, is toned, has toned muscles, jogs, runs, walks, or skips. She looks great and hope I do one day. Maybe many will be inspired by the article and by her.
