Grace, not for nothing, but I find that if I look back on my eating the day or 2 before a 'can't stop eating' day, I see that I haven't had very good nutrition. So I make sure that when I find myself unable to stop eating that I make sure that it's a good meal that I'm digging into - lean red meat, or beans/veggies, etc. I think that the reason that I get into one of those spirals is that I'm not always mindful of the quality of nutrition I'm taking in .... calories isn't everything...
Dr. Joel Fuhrman of 'Eat to Live' fame talks about 'toxic hunger' when your body is craving nutrition, not food. If you check him out there some articles you can read for free.
