Boredom snacking
Anyone else eat cos they are bored? I have just finished uni and now I'm home I have nothing to do, I spend all day watching dvds and on my computer, I have no motivation to go to the gym mainly cos I dont want to go out into the torrential rain ans its just so boring and I snack a lot. Anyone got any ideas of fun exercise i can do on my own that is not the gym or work out dvds? Fun being the operative word in that sentence and any ideas to stop me snacking?

i feel i could have written your post myself roobear! Im not at uni untill september and im stuck at home, bored and broke with only the biscuits for company. I try to leave the house whenever i can, walk to town and look around the shops and just stay as far away from the kitchen as possible. As for fun exercise, are there any arcades near you? If they have a ddr game you should definitely check it out, great fun and exhausting.

Oh, yes, DDR is the best. You have great cardio and it's a fun game all in one!
I get caught with boredom hunger all the time. I grab a book and a bottle of water. I usually get so caught up in the book, that I forget that I wanted food!
If you don't really care for books, you can always take a calming walk around your street or even a nice bath.

I have found low carbing has eliminated what I thought was boredom eating. I used to eat everytime I came in the door for any reason and nibbling was just a constant in my life. I started on Atkins and the whole world changed for me. I just never think of eating between meals anymore and the fridge is not a magnet to me now.
I just pray this continues forever......always worried it will pass and I'll be back to the old battle again but it's been 4 months and almost 25.8 lbs now and no urges to snack or nibble anywhere on the horizon. What a huge relief this is for me. I hope you find what works for you.

If I can offer a practical solution...Since you like watching dvds/telly why not get one of those aerobic step thingers and "walk" whilst watching tv?
I do it all the time, and its a great way to keep you interested and focused on something other than the fact you are actually exercising! ^_^

You could also buy workout dvds and watch them (and workout with them!) on your computer. They probably range from 10 - 20 (american dollars)

I love the idea about putting on music and just dancing like nobodys looking.. I've done that before & it does leave me sweaty & out of breath.. And you don't even feel like you're working out cuz it's just so much fun!

snack on grapes :P and dancing around the room sounds good...cooking suppresses my appetite, so make a long to prepare healthy dinner, like cabbage soup/med veggie lasange

I have exactly the same problem. I can generally find things to do to keep my food obsessed mind out of the fridge but 7pm hits, I have no money to go out and do something. So the inevitable happens and I start picking just for something to do. Does anyone have any tips and tricks? xx
