Happy Friday my friends -
Thanks for the kind words about my weight loss!
The countdown continues....just two and a half work days (four and a half days total) until vacation
I've got a list of things to pack...but not packed yet. I'm going to have to skip Zumba class tonight because I've got lots of cardio cleaning and cardio laundry to do (and yes, laundry is cardio since I have to go up and down the basement stairs several times carrying loads of wash). I also have website work to do (not very aerobic).
Since I used to live in California and have done most of the sightseeing type stuff, I'll be focusing on enjoying time with family. Last time I was there was a short visit for my mother's memorial service in Jan. 2004. I did many trips in 2003 to see my dad (in northern CA) and mom (in southern CA) as they were going through Stage 4 cancer. It's quite nice to be going back to CA for a true vacation and a happy time.
My sister asked me for a list of places I'd like to go, so I sent one. I think she's surprised that I didn't include the usual big amusement parks...but honestly, I just don't think I could get $70 worth of fun out of one day at an amusement. Last time I went, it was approx. $35, and it was worth every penny. I'm just not that into it now. So I've asked her if we could go to the Grammy Museum in LA (
http://www.grammymuseum.org), Descanso Gardens near Pasadena (
http://www.descansogardens.org) and to a Sidewalk Chalk art festival in Pasadena (
http://www.pasadenachalkfestival.com) - I've seen photos of this artwork online and it's AMAZING!! And even though I felt a bit uncomfortable about this...I sent her a list of my new favorite foods...so either she can get them or I can when I get there. Things like Egg Beaters, whole wheat bread, LOTS of veggies. I also explained how well I've been doing on Weight Watchers and that I really like my new eating/exercise habits. I told her that no food is off limits, but I can have more of some foods than of others.
As for the San Diego leg of my trip...my goal is to walk on the beach at least once and preferably once per day, to check out a Zumba class there (if possible), and to go either hiking or kayaking with my cousin. On the first Saturday that I'm there, my sister and her family are driving down and we're going to have a big family gathering at my aunt and uncle's. Then I'll ride back to my sister's place with them.
I'm also flying up to Northern California for a couple days to see my step-mother. I haven't seen her since her trip out here about 4 or 5 years ago, so I'm looking forward to seeing her!
Mel - So sorry to hear about Jen's back issues. I've never had a herniated disk (thank God), but I've heard they can be excrutiatingly painful even when you can take meds and do PT. I'm sending lots of healing thoughts her way and keep her (and you) in my prayers. Thanks for posting the Walking on Sunshine lyrics. I just LOVE that song! There's no way to listen to that song and not be happy. Now I want to get up and dance since the song is playing in my head!
Glad you already got out for a ride this a.m.
Ceejay - I had turbinate reduction surgery about 18 years ago, and they also fixed my deviated septum. As best as I can understand it, it's the tissue/lining of your nostrils. They can do the reduction surgery so that even when they well due to allergy/sinus issues...there's more room for stuff to drain. I won't lie to ya' though. It is painful. And you have to take it easy for quite awhile. You will likely have cotton shoved up your nostrils for several days after surgery (at least that happened to me). Sending you lots of hugs and prayers.
Shad - Butchart sounds just lovely. Maybe I'll get there one day. Big Sur, Monterey and Carmel are lovely. But I don't think I'll get there this trip as I'm only going to be up in the SF Bay area for two days.
Happy - You're right...it's great to have a victory on the scale, in addition to the wonderful NSV of feeling great. I was thinking yesterday that even if I may be a bit heavier than the last time my family saw me...I am DEFINITELY more tone AND in much better cardiovascular shape.
Annie - Hope you have a Fabulous Friday!
Here's to a great day and weekend for all of us!
Lots of love and hugs,
