My goal for January is 675 minutes of Intentional Exercise ( I like that term, Tabbycat!) The snow shoveling is mandatory for our daily living but I don't want to count it towards my goal.
Each year that goes by, I am concerned less with 'how do I look' and much more towards 'how is this workout going to help with my daily life'. As EagleRiverdee said in a different thread, overall fitness is what helps you in daily life.
Strength for bringing in groceries, doing yard work in the summer, moving furniture around to look for the dog's lost toy, oh yeah and carrying that darn 40 lb. vacuum cleaner up the stairs
Flexibility for things like climbing around the interior of your car when the doors are frozen
or having to climb up and into a window of your house when you're locked out, or plunging through deep snow to get to your friggin recycling bin
Stamina for being on your feet all day at work and feeling up to it.
and the things we can't see, like our heart being exercised to be fit and strong, our lungs, the circulatory system that is bringing nutrients where they need to be, gee I could go on and on, right?
