Bras!

Hi there everyone,

I always seem to have trouble finding bras for my ginormous breasts! >.<

I'm a size 40DD. I've tried Torrid for bras and though they look cute they always seem to hurt, or break and poke me with their evil metal thingies.

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where to get bras for bigger ladies? I understand that sometimes a good bra can cost you a lot so maybe a few stores with different price ranges would help me.

I like the Cacique brand from Lane Bryant. They "can" be expensive, but LB almost always has a BOGO sale going on. The bras and undies are just about the only things I like from Lane Bryant anymore (the ones from Lane Bryant outlet are better!).

Lane Bryant has a numebr of different styles to choose from. I personally like the no wire smoother. You can also find them for buy 1 get 1 for 1/2 off, or buy 2 get 1 for 1/2 off. I have ordered online as the stores don't always have all the styles available.

Fashion Bug, even walmart or kmart. And if you ever make it up to Canada Penningtons has some really nice bras.

I've had luck with Ambrielle at JcPenny and some at Kohls. The Ambrielle ones have lasted years and they are cute.

I always buy the brand glamourise (think thats how u spell it) many different places carry that brand. I am an f an love those bras without underwires.

I've been as large as a 42DDD, and have always had the best luck at Lane Bryant. My everyday favorite is the Balconette - it's got molded seamless cups, and is very comfortable. I'm at the point where it's time to buy new bras - I hope I like them as much in whatever size I am now!

I ALWAYS wear underwire, and I think anyone over a D cup really needs to, unless they like the droopy-boob look.

When I was a 40D I always did really well at Walmart, surprisingly. The bras were cheap and they held up really well. AND THERE WERE ACTUALLY CUTE ONES ABOVE A C CUP because that never seems to happen.

My mother usually does well at Sears.

I get my bras from a UK store called Bravissimo, they only cater to above D cups.

They deliver to Japan so they'll probably deliver to the States, just make sure to get the sizing right!

I never realized a bra could actually "fit" under your boobs, and that the wiring could actually sit on your skin and not your boobs until I found that stuff

They also have clothes for ladies who have boobs that aren't "connected" to their body shape/size and aren't accommodated by most stores (you know, you buy a size 14 dress only to find out you have size 18 boobs and a size 14 waist, etc.

Quick note (and I'm sure you already know this!):

When you wash your bra DO NOT dry it in the dryer--hang it up. Drying them will make them lose their shape and generally break down faster.

Are you sure you're a 40DD? It sounds like your fit is off. I have a page on how to fit yourself at home. If you could post your underbust and bust measurement (with a bra on, without leaning over, and laying on your back) I'd be happy to help you with sizing.

Also, is your band riding up in the back? Do your wires cut into your breast tissue? Do you have the four-boob effect? Do you feel your breasts are sitting low?

I think that's really where you need to start. If the wires are poking you that's a pretty obvious sign that the fit is off.

In terms of plus-sized bras I Lane Bryant was normally my go-to place. They carrier (somewhat) smaller band sizes and larger cup sizes. Also check Elomi, which I've heard amazing reviews for in plus-sizes.

ETA: My favorite bras so far are from Ewa Michalak. It takes a bit of legwork to get your size but they are well worth it!

Like everyone has said, try Lane Bryant they have a variety of sizes. Also try department stores like Macy's they usually go up to about a 42DDD. I had luck there earlier this year. They're not cheap but it's not as pricy as a bra store like intimacy or Rigby and Peller. Your other option might be to go to a proper bra boutique and get a good, professional fitting. It may be a little more expensive, though not necessarily that much more so, but at least you'll know your true size and can possibly get one good "special" bra before doing the rest of your shopping at Lane Bryant or Dillards/Macy's. How to find a good bra store in your area is to google "bra fitting + "your city name'." I found an excellent bra store this way when I lived in New Orleans.

A good fitting bra shouldn't hurt, but at the same time, it doesn't feel like you're wearing nothing at all. It should be hold you pretty firmly around the ribs so it's not shifting or sliding around and the arms shouldn't be digging into your shoulders. I've also found bras with support seams (e.g. the T-seam on the bottom) give better support and lift and shape than smooth cup t-shirt type bras, but YMMV.

I second for Bravissimo too, I'm a 34GG and they have bras that even fit me!

I'm with Runningfromfat - the fit is off if metal is poking you and breaks easily.

People tend to stuff themselves into the DDs and DDDs as that's all they can find in the stores. Go to the site mentioned by runningfromfat as that is a good guide.

I find for myself I can fit into 36DDD, but fit better in a 34G. And I'm NOT a fan of minimizer bras. They just push things to the sides which just make you look less feminine and sexy.
