Pat, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! No burst bubble. It’s sad but true – some manufacturers are way bigger than their sizes indicate. Levis is one of those that I’ve noticed. Right now, I have a range of 6 to 10 that fit correctly. I figure when they all say a size, then that’s the right one. The 6 is exciting but I know that the 8s are the right ones. But to see that tag on me was way fun (and will stay fun).
Dagmar, 400 pounds of dogs? I thought I was doing good with my 4 huskies but they total 230 at the most. But wow, do they like to pull on occasion. My rescue babe hurt my back in Oct and now I only walk 2 as I pulled my DH into our daily hikes. My animal behaviorist was taking care of them over the New Years holiday and she said “Sasha thought she was training for the Iditarod on the second day.” I laughed as some days they are perfect and others they forget their manners. Luckily (or unluckily) they never have their manners on the same day. Tell me about your dogs. My pack is my life and love all dog people.
Allison, I’m guessing DH won’t walk to work. It sounds like you’re the one being punished and I’m indignant on your behalf. Make him make you a healthy breakfast and lunch by him getting up earlier so you can bring them to work.
Shannon, loose 4s. For those of us skinnier fat chickies, that is so amazing. I will take whatever I can as an uplifting motivator.
Sheila, LOL on the hen eaters. I hope your kitty’s tummy gets better soon. Our elder pets frighten us whenever something is off kilter but your poor kitty is on day three and round two. That’s scary.
I'm a bit tardy in my b-day wishes because I got my knee cleaned out yesterday. A big ball of scar tissue had formed in one of the replaced knees that was really slowing me down in the gym and hurting when I bent it (it sounded just like ripping velcro whenever I stood up or sat down!) So my doctor went in arthroscopically and cleaned most of it all out. He showed me the before and after Xrays and hopefully it should make a big difference once I'm all healed. My goal is to be able to do overhead squats again, which I haven't been able to do since the replacements.
Right now I'm on crutches and am supposed to keep the knee elevated and iced. The pain pills aren't doing much at the moment, but I expect it to get a lot better soon. Boy, am I glad that I don't have any junk food in the house (and can't get around very well) because I'm just craving food porn! But I bulk cooked and have enough healthy stuff in the freezer for say, six months or so. So no excuses for off-plan eating! I really want to get a lot of protein this week to help with healing.
We're supposed to get a lot of snow today, so it's a good time to hibernate with the cats. I'm propped up in bed with my laptop and the four of them take turns sleeping on me. Keeps me warm!
Marie 4 huskies - wow! Not a breed I walk. I don't own any dogs. I have walked dogs commercially for over 15 years. Mostly retrievers, mostly labs. And everyone wears a halti which makes my job a heck of a lot easier.
I'm off on a dog sit tonite with a computer that doesn't like 3FC or Facebook or any other large site so will post when I can.
I have my grocery list ready and will not eat any food in my client's house that isn't on my list.
Anyone out there have problems from this big winter storm? DH and I worked from home yesterday and I don't know the official tally but it looked like we accumulated about 5 inches of snow. Back in the office today. If there's one good thing about being in Indy in the winter it's that they do a great job of clearing the roads.
Meg, I hope the knee heals up quickly!
Marie, LOL about the dog training for the Iditarod. I have just one doggie but he is my fur-baby. He's on a diet at the moment because when I took him to the vet he weighed in at 93lbs! His ideal weight is about 80lbs. He doesn't grow in a winter coat but we like to joke that he grows a winter layer of fat to keep him warm instead. He is a Doberman/German Shepherd/God-knows-what mix. We think there may be some Lab, Husky, and/or Chow in there too, since he loves to swim, has a curly tail, and has black spots in his mouth.
Meg, feel better soon. Hibernating sounds like a great way to recuperate.
Dagmar, ah you don’t know what you’re missing. Huskies are my loves. Sasha takes the halti off as we walk. She’s quite proficient at walking on her hind legs so she can use her front paws to push it off her face. She’s so quick that by the time we notice, it’s off. That was more irritating the pulling so we use non-pull harnesses. Enjoy your dog-sitting.
Jessica, loved the list of breeds. LOL! Blizzard, my elder puppy was near her end last May (hip dysplasia and severe arthritis) and she’d gained 4 pounds in 2 months. No wonder she was in so much pain and I’d feared she was leaving me. My vet put her on Hills WD and it did what it claimed. She lost weight and lost it quickly. She’d been 78.5 and now weighs in at about 65 pounds. She’s my diet partner and now a successful maintainer but not because she wants to be. She loves food nearly as much as I love the cocoa bean.
Since I'm taking about my furry loves, I thought you might want an image as I go on and on.
From left to right: Kodiak, Blizzard, me, Sasha (sitting) and Kai Pixie.
I have two dogs, both labs, one who is in the neighborhood of 16 years old and the other is 5. I love my dogs.
As for driving DH to work, it's too dark to have him walk the 5-6 miles to the office (6 AM) but we discussed alternatives when I said the 25-30 minute round trip was cutting into my morning too much. We think we'll have his dad (who works for us part time) pick him up 3 mornings a week and then the other two will be divided up between me and two other employees--that way I'll only have to do it on occasion. I'm actually a little worried about my car--it's a lease and I can really only drive 25 miles per day average otherwise I'll go over my mileage and I don't want to pay a penalty at the end. I may, for this month, drive DH's car which is paid for. That way my car can "catch up" and I won't have to worry! And I don't feel like I'm the one being punished--I just don't like change (especially knowing that in a month it'll change back).
Last night DH and I went to an open house. Of course we expected food, but there wasn't much. Some really greasy cracker like things, cheeses, fruit and shrimp. I had one shrimp, 2 crackers, 2 cheeses and a handful of grapes and berries. One glass of wine. Then we were headed home--hungry. We called the kids who had ordered pizza to see if there would be any left over (no) so we stopped. At McDonalds. We each had a quarter pounder with cheese and split a fries. I guess it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either and last night my tummy really gave me fits--probably from the grease. Ick.
Happy Belated Birthday Pat! I hope you had a good one!
After staying up late for a football party last night my already thrown off sleep schedule thrown off even further. I think I have to do what is unthinkable to me - move my alarm across the room from my bed, and set it this weekend, to get me back to an earlier wake-up time! I know I'm spoiled. I have time for some evening workouts after rehearsal, but I need to get up on time for work, for pete's sake!
My laptop came! It is so pretty! I knew UPS was coming yesterday sometime, no idea when, and I needed to drive to another city (80 miles) for work. I got back and went home at 3:00, and voila, the UPS man happened to show up at 3:30. How lucky. Now I need to get internet set up. Actually a Verizon card has been recommended and the monthly price is the same as any high-speed internet service available locally, so I just need to figure out if I should 'add a line' onto my family's family plan, which is where my cell phone is, or if the price is the same just get my own plan.
BF is still out of town, not sure when he'll be back. I've got some Netflix movies to watch, two more scenes worth of lines to learn, and of course workouts to do! I'll try to hang out with some friends Saturday night. What are everyone else's plans for the weekend?
Allison, maybe you could suggest to DH that in exchange for your driving him to work every day he could get up a bit earlier and make your breakfast for you? I think that's a nice way of saying "thank you".
Marie, your dogs are beautiful! I love huskies eyes, they are so exotic looking.
Dagmar, happy dog sitting.
Meg, I hope you have a speedy recovery and the cleaning helps your knee out and helps you do those squats!
