Red face Hello I wish I didnt need to be here but here I am

Hello everyone, My name is Vanessa and I am joining because I heard that you guys had a great support and advice group. I could have lived the rest of my life just eating sweets and chips and potatoes. God I loved a good bake potato.

I just found out I have type two diabetes and I have to cut the carbs. On top of that I also have high blood pressure. I am basically doing a low carb diet, following the Atkins 20. I have maybe 10 carbs a day and literally going nuts. I am testing my blood sugar twice a day and boy are my fingers sore. Not on insulin yet and don't want to be. More exercise that I am use to. We will see how it goes.

Looking forward to a better blood sugar and dropping some weight.

Hi Vanessa! welcome to the forum, with type 2 and eating better you aren't going to need that insulin. Diet is extremely effective to help with type 2.

So what you have a 'lifestyle change' and a new way of thinking.

let us know how it's going on Atkins, and good luck!

Thank you errrrrrrrrr I hate your name, I want to eat it. lol

Yes this is a big Lifestyle change and I plan to stick to it. My mother has diabetes and she kind of ignores it. She is on insulin and her hands get torn to shreds even if she has the slightest bump. I don't want to be like that.

I will keep you up to date and thanks for the welcome!

Hi Vanessa, Welcome to the forum!

I just want to tell you you are not alone in your fight with type 2 diabetes I was diagnosed in April along with high blood pressure. After I finally got out of my depressive funk, I am now just taking it one day at a time. I have quite a few family members who also aren't doing anything about their diabetes; but hopefully we can set a good example for them.

Vanessa! I'm so sorry to hear that you have diabetes and high blood pressure, but it sounds like you are on a great plan for battling it. I wish you the best!

Hello Vanessa and welcome! This is indeed a great place for advice and support. I am quite new here too. I'm sorry to hear about your health issues. I don't know much about diabetes, but recently it astonished me how much some healthy eating and cardio exercise can affect the blood pressure. The heart is such a precious thing - just a little muscle that keeps working for you day and night and tries it's best even if you abuse it. Let's show our hearts a bit well deserved love. <3

Hi and welcome

I have a friend who was diagnosed diabetic earlier this year, who at first really struggled to get her head around the point of losing weight and that low carb would help her diabetes blood sugars.

A few months down the line she celebrated on FB this week that her blood sugars have halved and she's been losing weight too.

So hang in there, the support here will help I'm sure, but hope you see progress and things get easier for you and you see health benefits.

Hi Everyone, I went to the Doctor yesterday and since June 24 I have lost 9lbs and my Blood Sugar is now around 120 when I started off at 190. I am now eating a small satisfy serving of fruit a day and this morning my Blood Sugar was 95! I am so pleased with myself because I am 44 and never had the will to do something like this. Last time I lost 9lbs was when I had a stomach virus! I am just so happy and I feel like I can do anything now.

I am in middle of a move but I will be sure to make time to visit at least once a week. Not only to receive support but to give as well. I am going to kick Type 2 in the rear!

Yeah!!!!!! That's great news! I just love hearing things like this. It reminds me that we are in control of our own health. One month of healthy eating and exercise ....9lbs gone and blood sugar way down....thats great progress.
