Default Another Texan!

Hi Everyone!
Calypso here! I'm a 65 year old Texan, living in Mexico most of the year. Like so many of you, I have lost, regained, lost...and regained once again the same 50+ pounds. I'm brilliant at leaping on the "fitness bandwagon." My gosh...I've done it often enough! Unfortunately, I'm equally fantastic at jumping off.

My struggle parallels many of yours, I suspect. Getting gung-ho, committed dedicated to fitness...only to, several months later, lapse into old habits of couch-potato-ism and too many "comfort foods." I really hate exercise...so, it's an on-going challenge. I really love food...and use it for celebrations and sad occasions alike.

Turning 65 was a wake up call for me. Within 2 weeks, three close friends died. On Jan 6, I decided that, this time around, it wasn't to look good for anyone else...it was for me...and would be a complete lifestyle change. I've had bilateral total knee replacements and a total shoulder replacement within the past two years...so, I'm more of a tortoise than a hare...but, I am really giving it my all.I need to lose 100 lbs...and, saw this site...and, thought what a great way to keep at it. Support is a HUGE...and, I'd so appreciate any support from anyone! Good luck to you all!

Hey Calypso, WELCOME! I love how you described the yo-yo process, that has been me as well -- equally dedicated to losing and then regaining. I've lost the same weight so many times it is mind-boggling to me. This time I was focusing on maintenance from day 1, and tried to make real, lasting changes that will carry forward. Definitely not easy, but you can do it!

You look fabulous...and are such an inspiration (and funny, to boot!)! This time around feels different to me...and your words "lasting changes" say it all. My real challenge is to exercise. It sounds (in your blog) that that was never a particular problem for you. But, to provide incentive, I asked my kids and their spouses to do a 5K walk/ run in December. And, they've all agreed. I know that it will force me to continue forward (physical) progress.

You look absolutely fantastic! Gorgeous! And, I so love the honesty and quirkiness of your blog! Thanks for your support...and for bring an incredible inspiration!

Howdy and bienvenido, Calypso! I'm a Texan, too! How's everything going with you? I have a suggestion for exercise -- If you have or have access to a treadmill, start there. Just a little bit of walking will do wonders. I am easily bored, so I read on the treadmill -- with a little rack that holds the book. When I have something I'm interested in, time flies! Hope all is well!

Welcome. Also a Texan and just a few years younger than you. This is a great forum for support.
